Title: More moderation please
Post by: Grey Ninja on November 29, 2003, 07:18:43 PM
I have been patient. I have been more than patient.
But the thing is that I originally came to these forums because I liked the strict moderation present here. Now I am seriously considering leaving because of the lack of moderation. I suggest fixing that problem ASAP. I will likely leave soon anyway for other reasons, but I would really appreciate some moderation regardless. A forum that leaves its members to moderate themselves is just not healthy.

i agree, iv been here for 4 years. I'v stuck to the rules and have had a good time. However, this place is not what it used to be. Moderation is at an all time low or at least as bad as it was in the EZ Board days. There are alot of stupid threads and alot of bulk and that has been preventing me from posting. I don't post alot anymore. There is just too much crap. If the forums were to be streamlined by gettign a lot of the excess then i might enjoy myself again. As it stands I mostly post in general chat. The intelligence and rule breakign is just too off to be worth a post in gamecube discussion whcih should be the focal point of these forums beign for a gamecube website. Rant Blah.

Well, I'm actually glad they eased up a while back. When they first opened this forum they were way to strict. I mean this is the third PGC forum I've been a member of and it was also the first one that I've had a topic locked at. However I do agree that within the last couple of weeks things have started to get a little out of hand. It's really a bad sign when even senior posters start acting up. If the mods are on vacation I can't blame them though. It's just a forum after all and they shouldn't have to give up their real life over it.

I agree. So, what's YOUR excuse for a sig that is clearly against the rules?

Actually lately a lot of people are reporting things that aren't violations

S-U-P-E-R, why is the first part of Gibdo Master's sig being ignored by the mods?

It's not obscene enough. C'mon, try harder, Gibdo.

So making a reference to breast feeding a baby is evil?
Title: RE:More moderation please
Post by: Ms.Pikmin on November 30, 2003, 04:48:07 PM
You know what? That is a load of crap! The rules say anything "sexually oriented". Referring to someone other than a baby sucking on "tits" is not referring to a sexually oriented act? You guys are total hypocrites!
Edit: My post is referring to SUPER not Gibdo.

Jesus, if it's bothering you that much I'll change it. By the way if this has anything to do with PIAC I think his little link is a bit worse than my slightly humors sig.

Sorry to go off topic here, but have my 'report to moderator' uses been incorrect? The window it opens in states it's use to to report offensive content, yet the moderatorss seem to refer to it's use as being to report violations of the rules. If someone just spams (which is in violation of the rules, but not offensive), should I report it? Sorry if I've been wasted your time.
Title: RE: More moderation please
Post by: nitsu niflheim on December 01, 2003, 02:27:30 AM
That's a hard issue, spam is evil. But the mods probably don't want to get a report at every instance. I'd guess to report someone who is really spamming, use it once and then pm one of the mods with a little note to further clarify.

It litterally pains me to agree with Grey Ninja, but in this case I must. I have seen a dozen "DO YOU LIKE MARIO KART!!! I DO!!!) style threads over the last few months, and very few, if any, of these threads ever get locked anymore. I admit, when I first came to PGC, I thought the moderation was Naziesc, but came to realise the reasons for it, and actually became thankful for it. I am not immune to throwing a stone or two, I sometimes lose my cool, and react in ways that are not appropriate, and usually the staff at PGC will point out when you are crossing, or are near the "line". I do agree however, that the strict moderation that got Rick called a hitler clone by so many, must return, and must return soon, or these forums will simple deteriorate to the level of every other gaming forum on the net. And that would truly be a dissapointment.
Title: RE: More moderation please
Post by: Bloodworth on December 01, 2003, 10:21:35 AM
Unfortunately, with Rick back in school and work, he isn't even around to do a lot more important things. I was out of town for most of the past week as were many other staff, but Ty and I do try to keep a handle on the forums.
I take a look at everything that comes through the moderator reports, so please be sure to use that. There has been one guy spamming them which is a problem, but we can ban him if he keeps it up. One thing about reporting incidents though: please be specific. If you just say some guy has a huge avatar, I'll have to search through the whole thread to find him. Use quotes and usernames as much as you can.

Yeah, i reported a few times because i felt it needed cleaning up. So you need to be specific...oops. You took care what it seems to be everything i reported so im good

Hey, I liked Gibdo's sig. But whatever.
I have not noticed a lack of moderation. . . in fact, I've seen more locked threads recently than I usually do. It's not bothering me, but I suppose if others consider it a problem it should be fixed.
Title: RE: More moderation please
Post by: Grey Ninja on December 01, 2003, 03:08:44 PM
Just want to mention that the moderation in the last few days has been extraordinary. Good job Bloodworth.
SUPER, Ms. Pikmin is right. Gibdo's sig was borderline breaking the rules if used in a regular post. But the fact that it was in his sig greatly amplifies the effect. Such things IMHO are ok to say once in a while, but when it's repeated every post you make, it does become a problem.

How many Faust av's you got S-U-P-E-R? Because I have seen two so far today.
I have only used the report thingie once, after I was personally attacked by some knobhead. He was banned, made me happy. Then I went back to my nearly invisble existance on these forums until I decided to post more often, and look at me now

Sorry about the lax moderation, folks. Dan's right ... I'm not only working a full-time schedule, but I'm taking 20 credits at college (full-time is considered to be 12 credits), so I'm just a bit pressed for time. We'll try to keep better tabs on the place, but appropriate use of the "Report to Moderator" link is the way to go.
Title: RE: More moderation please
Post by: Grey Ninja on December 03, 2003, 04:27:52 PM
Thanks for stopping by Rick. I know how taxing full time studies can be.
The problem is that reporting blatant spam doesn't really strike me as the way to go, as it's normally a long term deal, where the person in question doesn't break any rules in any particular post, but has a tendency to build up a lot of garbage over time... it's kind of hard to report that sort of thing. That's why we really need you back Rick. You never let that stuff build up at all.

Hostile, get yourself a server that supports server side scripting, and let me know what language you want to do it in.
Go there and refresh a few times, watching the quote at the top of the page. It's done the same way.

Those are some nice quotes, Grey Ninja. "Girls are like pianos. When they're not upright, they're grand." -Benny Hill. Oh man, that may have to go in my sig
I'm not interested in a changing avatar, actually, just wondering. My friend, too (recently signed up here but has not posted), was wondering. I shall look into it though. Thanks.

Well the reason alot of threads have been locked is because some Nwe poeple dont understand the rules ( I was one of them when I posted the Emu thread ) .
I got this idea from another forum but what if when someone registers there is some sort of quiz on what you can and cant do .
Anyway , I notice alot of threads locked , good work Bloodworth .

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure how easy it'd be to make that, plus it'd be a pain to fill out. We could certainly be harsher on the newbies that way, though

I see a lot of people complaining about "newbies" making these boards "bad." In my opinion it's the users that have been here longer that need more moderation. Post after post I see older posters bashing newer users and even other older users. Too many of you think you can get away with saying whatever you want to others and think that you are exlcuded from the rules because you've been here longer than most. You should be setting the example for the "newbies" rather than acting like you complain the "newbies" do. Not once have I said something rude or crass to another user and I'd appreciate the same in return. Quite franlkly, the ingorance expressed by some of the users is making me dislike these forums.

Post by: mouse_clicker on January 09, 2004, 10:27:29 AM
You have a point, Marcus, but I'm getting tired of people who don't read the rules and don't read what anyone has posted and suddenly think everyone should pay attention to them. It's really getting annoying- not all of them are like that, but the vast majority are, it seems. If they would take the time to read the rules (or just not be stupid) and check to see if what they're saying has either already been said or has any relevance at all, everything would be fine.
And good luck on finding a better board- this is one of the tamest you'll find, I think.

Honestly, I don't have the patience for the spammers. If I make 5 messages telling someone to read the rules and to watch a few posters, and they don't listem to me, and I just yell for a second, honestly it's less of a waste of space than the 3000 stupid threads I see popping up in general chat. I'm surprised I haven't seen the 'who do you think is hot?' thread yet, as it would seem like it is next to come.
It's actually surprising to me that the Gamecube section is the least aggrivating now.
Oh yeah, and could some of the locked threads be cleaned up? There are quite a few pilling up.

Don't take this the wrong way because it's not just directed at you manunited4eva, but it isn't your job to tell others what they did wrong. The moderators can handle that themselves.

I agree with what you are saying, Marcus. It's just that when this thread started the mods were not really on top of the spam. It was out of control for awhile and people were getting really tired of the mess it was creating. Things are much better now and I for one haven't seen older people flaming newer people for posting incorrectly.

I think if you go through every locked thread you'll see that someone, as in an older poster, has "flamed" (or whatever you want to call it) the creator of the thread. The threads were eventually locked anyway so there is no need for anyone to even leave a message in the first place.

Ok, so maybe i did exaggerate a little. However, the point of the message is first and foremost, you older posters aren't mods, so stop trying to act like them. It's not all of you, just a select few. Secondly, just treat others with some respect for bob's sake.
