Please forgive this very novice question. We just bought a GameCube for the kids for Christmas and we are trying to learn the basics so we can show them how to play.
In the two games we bought, Disney Extreme Skate Adventure and Super Mario Sunshine, we had a hard time finding the menu option to quit the game.
Is there a standard key combination on the controller that allows you to quit a game at any time?

You see, one of the real beauty elements of a console is that you don't have to exit what you are doing to shut down the console. On a PC, they make you jump through hoops to shut down your computer, because you have a chance of corrupting the file system if you don't. On a console, there is no file system to worry about, except on the memory card. So as long as you don't turn off your console while saving, you should be ok.
As for learning the basics before giving the game to your kids? I wouldn't really worry about that either. If they are ordinary kids, they would probably learn the basics quicker than you. (no offense).

Being used to the PC, we just thought there was another way.
And as for showing the kids how to play, it will be necessary, as they speak only French and most of the games (if not all) are in English.
