Post by: Swordsplay on November 24, 2003, 02:17:54 PM
What made you think of your quotes that you have?
I picked mine because the first quote is something to think about for a long long time, the second quote i picked because i live that quote everyday and need to be responsible for my actions, the third quote is because i felt good when i made those topics , and the last quote by Neo is just bad - ass! I mean come on!

The quote in my sig I got from the signature of a guy I knew on IGN. It's easily the best quote I've ever read, so I have it as my signature now.

I've got a lot of issues with your quote, nolimit. :/ It sounds very hypocritical in my opinion- how can a man say that the theory of evolution is impossible, despite its immense scientific proof, and then turn around and say creationism IS right, which has absolutely no scientific proof whatsoever, and is based soley on groundless faith. But meh, just my opinion.

well he is a nobel prize winner, and what he says is true. spontaneous generation is scientifically impossible. its been disproven for a long time. he isnt saying creation is right or that evolution is wrong....just that spontaneous generation is impossible. and the idea that creation has no scientific proof is wrong. there are many things to back up the idea of creation...and many things to refute evolution.

someone pressed the on button, we are all living in a giant video game, somewhat like the sims, that's what i believe
anyway, my sig is from my favorite show, futurama, and from one of the best characters Zap Brannigan (who ranks up there with Richard Nixon and Dr Zoidberg). i change my sig fairly frequently how ever, usually an amusing quote or in-joke that only a handfull of people (usually just the aussies + berto), no seriousness for me (unless i'm having a go at someone that annoys me )

If you really try to analyze mouse clickers sig you'll find it to be quite brilliant. Nice sig clicker!!!
Anyway, as stated by aristotle "All men desire knowledge". It is what we strive for, it is what life is made of. My second sig is just something I picked up from one of my classmates at college.

I have no recollection of why I got my own quote(at least I think it's mine) on my sig, all I know is that it is true and I like it alot.

I wrote my quote when the forum was all f*cked up and like my sig says everything took like two hours to load. I guess I should change it but I'm lazy. In the past I've used such sigs as "A Winner is You!" (an Engrish quote from Pro Wrestling for the NES) and "Even the milk turns purple!" which is an inside joke.

I got mine from hip-hop group, Wutang Clan. It seems the consensus is that a good chunk of PGC members loathe the rap/hip-hop scene with avengence, but the snippet I have can be applied to your daily life, regardless if that type of music doesn't float your boat.
Its from the first track on the album, which is more of a freestyle poetry as oppossed to rapping. The man speaking is a preacher talking to another man down his luck. Instead of externalizing the good and bad into two abstract planes, to internalize it in a more practical fashion.

My first quote has changed so ill only explain that one, since i've explained the others. The first quote is something i thought of myself and thoroughly enjoy reading to get a good laugh.

"Well, if evolution is false, what is right?"
I've actually never understood why evolution and creationism are such seperated issues when the two of them can coexist. Just because man started out as a monkey doesn't mean that God didn't create the universe as well as the monkey and man. The existence of evolution does not cancel out the existence of God nor does the existence of God cancel out the existence of evolution. I've always believed that evolution is real and that God created and controls it.

I agree Ian, but we aren't supposed to get into that stuff SO....
My quote is based off some severe editing and reformating of what mouseclicker said obviously. He did actually write "in" though and I thought it was funny after reading the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (good book by the way).

Ian: I completely agree, but the theory of evolution (I really don't even like that name, since it's gone far beyond being a theory) is in direct contrast with the story of Adam and Eve, perhaps the most important story in the Bible. So to believe in both creationism and evolution requires you to not belive in some very key parts of the Bible, and I think that's why evolution and creationism are seen as opposites, even though they're not.
What I was mentioning, though, was if evolution isn't correct, then what is correct?
As for Berny's quote, it really isn't that heavily editted- he just include a later sentence with it. The main part is the Batman in Robin part, which was entirely accidental.

Heh I guess it was. And, if I were to continue breaking the rules about religious discussion, I might say that the Adam and Eve story was a myth meant only to reveal aspects of man that were and of God that are, and that it is not meant to be factual. But I won't break the rules and say any of that.

Well maybe adam was one little bacteria, and eve split off of him or something. Makes sense of that anyway.
Oh well, my sig is dedicated to people who make their someting like soccergirlieprincess88 and add the once thoughtful but now just annoying quote like 'remember your old friends, tell your new friends you will remember them'
I just felt I needed to change that to apply to getting plastered.

well i believe what the bible says about creation and let me give you a few simple reasons why. wisdom teeth, appendix, and the brain. most people need their wisdom teeth pulled, and its true some people never get them, but have you ever wondered why we get them in the first place. it supports the idea that we were made perfect and have become less instead of more over the years. also our appendix...its something we dont use....why did we evolve parts that we dont use....it again supports the idea that we were made perfect and over time we have lost what we once had. lastly the brain...we use a extremely small amount of our brain...why did we evolve these big brains that we hardly use?? of course this isnt proof of creation, but i think it is logical to think that maybe we were once greater creatures and havent evolved, but devolved.
Title: RE:Quotes: What made you think of them?
Post by: mouse_clicker on November 26, 2003, 12:30:05 PM
It supports the idea we're evolving, nolimit- maybe you should check your evidence to make sure it does actually support you rather than work against you. Have you ever heard of vestigiality? The fact we need our wisdom teeth pulled shows that at one point we needed the extra molars, perhaps to eat very tough food, but now we don't need them, perhaps because humans rarely eat very tough food anymore and hence have no need for an extra set of teeth- they've become redundant. Our appendix! Humans once used our appendix, as do other animals, and still do- the appendix secretes antibodies into the gut to help fight diseases that may have entered through ingestion of food. We so rarely eat things that contain diseases, though, and the rest of our immune system has become powerful enough that the appendix doesn't have much use anymore. Hence it's gradual phasing out of our body, representative in the literal sense in that it's physically shrinking, and will soon be gone altogether. In fact, your mention of vestigial body parts further supports evolution- in certain case, very rarely but still notable, dolphins and whales have been found with short stumpy legs. This proves that dolphins and whales once had legs of a sort, and the genetic code for these legs is still present, although it is almost always ignored. The genetic code is present because dolphins and whales, which we all know are marine mammals, evolved from land mammals, animals that used to live on land but gradually became more aquatic and bound to the sea. In a similar sense, some humans are born with vestigial tails, which goes a long way towards proving our most ancient ancestors were, in fact, primates. As for using only a small part of our brains, that's just an urban myth- humans, in all actuality, use 100% of their brains.
I don't often say this, nolimit, but you are one of the most ignorant people I have ever met on a message board. I'm not going to say you're stupid, because you're not, but you know far too little about the things you debate to possibly form any sort of valid opinion at all. The simple fact you supported my own argument against you is proof enough of that. I don't care if you don't believe in evolution and do believe in creationism- that's great for you if it makes you happy, which is our real goal in life- but I cannot respect your opinions when you so obviously don't understand them even enough to support them. This won't escalate into a flame war, if anyone is wondering, because I'm done with this discussion.

well i actually was going to write more, but i didnt want to, but now i am forced to. i wont say you are stupid, but you certainly write things that are very stupid....that wasnt my whole argument on why i believe in creation, and you sure like to jump to conclusions. its not even clost to the meat of the argument, and as i said, they are just 3 simple things that point to creation. no matter how much spin you want to put on the body parts you dont use anymore, the fact remains that we dont use them. the wisdom teeth DON'T FIT. it supports the idea that we were different when we were first made. creationist dont say that there is no change, simply that there is no "improvement". things obviously change and anyone who says otherwise is most likely to stupid to talk anyways. we have differnet races with different skin colors, heights, and weights. the thing that i really wonder is what supports evolution....the great darwin came up with natural selection which explains why things die off, but how does that all of a sudden create new life? the fossil evidence from prehuman exsistance is not as strong as main stream science likes to pretend it is. more than 99 percent of the fossils found come from marine invertebrates, algae, plants, or other invertebrates including insects. less the 1 percent includes all vertebrates, which are mostly fish. 95% of the few land vertebrates found, are not in their entirety. there are only something like 1,200 dinosaur skeletons in all. and things like neaderthals are based on the finding of only a handfull of fossils. it is simply too much to talk about here, and you need to settle the freak down before you start the name calling thing...just because i dont think kennedy was the king of camelot or that we came from damn dirty apes seems to make you think that you can call me ignorant...i am probably the least ignorant person you know. what i love the most about this, is the idea that christians are not tolerant of others when in this case the opposite is clear. i never said you cant believe in these things or that i think you are ignorant for believing in them, but i simply stated what i believe....

We evolved from rat's no limit, would you like me to go get about 3 million acredited bioligist, more millions of papers with proof, thousands of foosil records, basically every single accredited scientific community agrees evolution happened. Hell even the POPE agreed that evolution most likely did happen. Get over it. Guess why there aren't that many mammals dating back 150 million years ago? THEY DIDN'T EXHIST! Wonder how mammals got here? Did creation 'respawn' for a lack of better words and randomlly throw humans into the mix? No, people evolved. It's a matter of science, not of opinion.
I'm atheist by the way, so lets not insult other political groups and make this a complete flame war.
Title: RE:Quotes: What made you think of them?
Post by: nolimit19 on November 26, 2003, 02:58:51 PM
well the Pope said micro evolution happened and thats definitely different then macro. there is no doubt micro exsists. however, evolution is still a theory because it has never been witnessed before. like i said its fine to believe in evolution, but its just a theory...if you can think that something as complex as life came from nothing, thats fine, but its not satisfactory for me. if we found a rocket ship in the middle of amazon jungle, would we assume it evolved from nothing, i think not....and the simplest forms of life are more complex then anything man can create. like i said htough, i dont think you are stupid to believe one thing or another....if you think we came from rats thats fine...it doesnt hurt me. i was asked to say what i think, then flammed for it, and thats whta i have a problem with. the thing with evolutionist is that they have no tolerance....they think that science is 100 percent fact, and true science is, but its still a theory for a reason...mouse was complaining that it was still a theory and that it should be more then that now...maybe he could tell us why it shouldnt be a theory any more....i doubt he even knows what constitutes a scientific theory from that stupid comment.

Maybe because it has been proven to a point already?
How long do you think it will be before humans do create life? I wouldn't bank on it not happening. We already have built dna computers, created nanomachines, created self assembling parts (akin to protein folding) that will one day be integrated into computers. Give up on the flaming crap, I don't care about it, mouse ain't coming back in the thread.
Evolution is witnessed all the time! The exact way things evolve is why it's not a law. There have been thousands of experiments showing what happens when a new disease is introduced, the group that has the immunity survives, and as the disease alters itself to better itself to attack, which is evolution in every sense, the prey organism changes itself further.
This is not an opinion, this is fact. I asked you not to insult other groups though, so oh well being nice only goes so far.

Swordsplay, please don't re-create this thread, just let it pass on. Sorry, it wasn't your fault.
