i dont know how to do the link thing so there is the address. It says that there are 7 or 8 zelda games on there. Can anyone confirm or deny this? It also has new information concerning gameplay of the disc.

Eh, it's not quite 7 or 8 (there's only 9 games in the series total), but Nintendo is releasing a Zelda bonus disc, which will contain The Legend of Zelda, Adventures of Link, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and a short documentary on the history of the Zelda series. You can get it for free one of three ways: buying a new Gamecube, (re)subscribing to Nintendo Power, or by registering your Gamecube on Nintendo's website plus any 2 games that will be released with a special registration code (currently the choices are Mario Kart: Double Dash, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario Party 5, and 1080: Avalanche).

What do you mean registering your Gamecube?  Just tell them you have one and you get stuff?
Title: RE: Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: MagicToenail on November 16, 2003, 01:10:12 PM
I already know what the bonus disc contains, and nintendos plan on releasing it, I was saying I didnt know why there would be so many of the games on their (for those who bothered to read the link). But upon further inspection of reading the link, I found that those games would all be in a retrospective. Also, I'm in no way new to the Zelda series, I've still got my version of The Adventure of Link for the NES. Oh well, the link still explains whats on the disc and it explains some of the glitches in Majoras Mask. It's a good read.

Hostile: You can make an account at Nintendo.com, and then you're able to type in the serial code on your Gamecube to register it. You do the same with the games, and once you have your Gamecube and 2 games registered, they send you the disc.

Thanks. . . very cool.  I already have an account there, for whatever reason.  I suppose I'll go do that. . . is that opportunity in progress right now?

Indeed it is- I've already registered my Gamecube and GBA.Here is the page in question.

I see. . . figgered it all out now.  But I own none of the required games for registering.  I'm going to be getting Mario Kart, but I'm not sure about the rest.  Maybe I'll just look at the PIN on one in some video store and copy it down or something.  Whatever. . . I'm not ultra concerned about this, but if I could get it, it'd be nice.  The documentary thing especially.

Why don't you just subscribe/renew to Nintendo Power?

If you come to these boards, you should be gettin it anyway.  It's $20 bucks or somtin for a year.

It all goes down after tomorrow, when you can subscribe and choose the collecters edition disk as your free gift.

That's how I'm doin it.
Title: RE: Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: The King of red Lions on November 16, 2003, 02:05:46 PM
Also......

It's not a documentary,   it's a very, very short retrospective montage of footage from 4 or 5 games.

Besides, why would you be gettin it for that.   You should be gettin it for the 4 zelda games, all in one place, all on one system.
Title: RE: Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on November 16, 2003, 02:50:39 PM
The PIN number is only included with NEWER games (such as games that are qualified for this bonus disc promotion) via an insert in the package.  I've checked my current games, and there aren't any PIN numbers on the package nor on the discs at all.
Title: RE:Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: Hostile Creation on November 16, 2003, 03:11:15 PM
Because I already have the other four games.  ((Eh, nevermind what I said here.  I was wrong.))

I don't get Nintendo Power.  But I might get Mario Party 5, or do something that is quite possibly illegal.  Whatever.  I'm not really that concerned about it, it'd just be nice to have.

Post by: joshnickerson on November 16, 2003, 04:20:46 PM
Hmph. Kinda bummed about the "documentary" now, that was the one aspect of the disc I was REALLY looking forward to. Oh well. At least now I can play some old school Zelda without digging out my old NES.

Damn Nintendo again! First, for making me re-buy Mario 3 because they know I want it, and now this!

I'm not really a fan of the newer Nintendo Power, as they cater to the younger crowds. (On second thought, they ALWAYS catered to the younger crowd, I just got older, and refused to grow with me.) But since its a relitively cheaper option than two games or a 'cube, it might be my only option. Mario Kart's in the bag, but the other titles don't float my boat. I've been itching for Secret of Mana on the Gba for a loooong time, I'm not going to substitute for Superstar Saga.

Oh well, I can think of it this way. I paid 20 or so dollars for the game and I just so happen to get a subscription which I can cancel

just buy mario kart and superstar saga(famitsu rated it 10 9 9 9) for the zelda compilation or just a nintendo power subscription

It really is my only option though.

Well, I ordered mine with a new Nintendo Power Subscription.

I might get Mario Kart, I heard it got bad reviews and I read them.  So I dunno.  1080, plays really well and it is fun, but I am owried about the real game and whethere it is going to be fun.  Mario Luigi, is a little bit boring, I have played it and I would consider a different game like Sword of Mana.  Mario Party 5is a joke, it will never beat #2.

Anyway, at least I am finally gonna be able to beat Zelda2.  My uncle has it for the NES, but the battery is shot and you can't save, so I have never gotten past the 3 castle.

TWO bad reviews, and that's only if you count a 7.9 as bad, which it isn't. Go to Game Rankings and read the reviews THEY have- everything else has given it above a 9.0. Hell, EGM gave a 10, 10, 9.5.

Actually, Mario Party 5 is looking good to me.  I think they sensed how lazy they got in 4, and are making up for it.  And the ice cream game looks awesome.  I dunno if I'll get it, though.

I bought Mario Party 5 and its the first MP I've ever played and I think its great.  Went to Sam Goodys and Wal-Mart today and neither of them had MK: DD.  I got MP 5 and my 'cube registered already, so Im guessing when I enter my final pin for MK they will send the disk ASAP?  20 gamecube games and counting, MK will make 21.  So tomarrow its off to Gamestop to pick up MK and FYE to pick up the new Blink album.

You mean Blink 182?  Mm.  To each his own, I suppose.

You have good taste in video games, though.  I'm seriously considering Mario Party 5. . . I suppose it'll depend on what I end up thinking of Killer 7.

If you already have a registration to NP, will they still send you a bonus disc?  I mean I registered like a month before they came up with this, will i get the disc?
Title: RE: Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on November 17, 2003, 07:02:05 PM
No, you won't.  Sign-up/subscription gifts are only applicable when they're available, since quantities are always limited and each subscription offer is tied to a specific offer number/ID.  I got the Paper Mario soundtrack when I first subscribed almost a year ago, and this Zelda offer came up just in time for me to renew my subscription.

As the FAQ states, you'd have to add-on ANOTHER 12-month subscription (extending your current subscription) in order to get the Zelda Bonus, since this offer specifically started on Nov. 17, 2003.

the real deal

Post by: Pale on November 17, 2003, 07:12:57 PM
Yeah professional is right.  I already had a subscription, I just called them up, paid 20 bucks, they extended my subscription another year and told me they'd ship out the zelda disc right away....I'll get it in two weeks.  I personally think the zelda disc is worth the 20 bucks, especially if you are like me and you can't register your cube because its an import.  Nintendo Power is a fun magazine too.  Its not the greatest for news, but there are fun game enhancements like pokemon e cards, animal crossin codes, etc. that are always packaged in it.

Do any of my fellow Australian's know if it is possible for us existing GameCube owners to get a copy of the latest Zelda bonus disc?

Nintendo Australia's site is proving to be as helpful as usual regarding such info.

Nintendo's Store was getting slammed last night when I ordered my disc.  Apparently a lot of people were going for it and the broadband adapters because it took like ten minutes to load each page.

Just picked up MK: DD and as soon as I got home i registered it.  Now I got my gamecube, Mario Party 5, and MK:  DD registered.  I got the follow message:

Quote

If you have registered enough product to qualify to receive the Zelda Disc, you will receive an email confirming your Zelda Disc shipment sometime during the next week. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.

So I'll be crossing my fingers and waiting for an e-mail in the next few days, well time for more MK: DD!

I had the same problem as Bloodworth. I think it took me like half an hour to first sign up for My Nintendo then to order Nintendo Power with the Zelda disk. I was annoyed for about a second, but then i stopped getting annoyed because i was just happy i was getting the Zelda disk.

Yay, I bought it last night and it should be here in two weeks.  I finally will be able to enjoy Majora's Mask *I've played every other Zelda game besides that game* and beat all of them.  Speaking of the disc,  I also hope that they have good menu music like for the Wind Waker bonus disc.  I loved that music and used to just leave it looping in my bedroom.

You won't be dissappointed with Majora's Mask, it is my favorite Zelda game.  It is maybe a tab bit short in lenght but not in excitement.  The time of day thing might be confusing for some people but I had no problem with it, in fact, it was great cause you knew what was going to happen that day, kinda like Groundhogs Day, but with Link and milk bars.

Although there is a disclaimer before playing MM on the bonus disk, it says there will be sounds of hiccups or delays of whatnot, but I dunno, well see how much it hurts.

You have to Register your Gamecube as well to get the disc, along with two games.  So you need one more game now, you should get Mario and Luigi if you have some extra cash and a GBA/GBA player.  I've heard from many people that the game is worth owning and I'm getting it as well tomorrow

"Question: Is it worth a GB player for Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion, and Mario and Luigi? I may try that out for Christmas. . ."

A GB Player is as worth owning as a GBA itself.  In fact since it's cheaper is arguably even more worth it unless portability is really important to you.  For three games yes it's worth it.

I've made the mistake of putting Mario Kart on my birthday/Christmas list so the earliest I can get it is December 1 (my birthday) and in a worst case scenario I can't buy it for myself until after Christmas in case someone else has bought it for me.  If I get really desperate I'll go the Nintendo Power route for the disc.  I hope Nintendo made a lot of these discs because I'm going to be royally pissed off if they run out before I can get it.

has anyone gotten the e-mail confirming that you will get the bonus disc yet?  i registered my cube, GBA, GBA-SP, Mario Kart, Mario party, and Mario & Luigi over the last 2 days.  i want that zelda disc so bad i can taste it.  just the convenience of LoZ, AoL, OOT, and MM all on one disc without having to dust off my NES (which still works great by the way).

Slightly off-topic question.. where on the Nintendo website do you register your GCN and the games you've bought? I want to at least get a headstart and get the GCN registration in (not sure if I already have or not), but it's not part of the MyNintendo site that I can see.. *scratches his head* -- Nevermind, I found it.

Edit:  If others don't have the games yet and want to at least register the Cube, a good way to find it is just to go to the Mario Kart website and click the Registration link at the bottom.

Well part one of operation get disc was a failure.  My local Futureshop does have the disc and it is seperate and not in the Gamecube box.  However they're still not selling it.  I tried to go to check out with one and got caught.

Me: "Hi"
Clerk: "Hey there's no price on this.  I'll have to ask the manager."
Manager: "Oh we can't sell that seperately.  You have to buy a Gamecube."
Me: "But I already have a Gamecube."
Manager: "Well then TOUGH SH!T LOSER!! HA HA HA HA!"

Okay I made up the last line but it could have happened and that's what's important.  Anyway I'm planning on checking out some other locations in the next few days.  I can confirm that not all stores have them only in the Cube boxes so that's worth knowing.

I've been doing my research, and I think I'm getting a GB player.  I'm not sure if this is the thread I was talking about it in, but oh well.

However, this means that I'll probably get Mario and Luigi Supersaga (even though it is an RPG, I know. . .), so I'll probably end up getting this demo disc.  So it applies to this thread.  Yay.

Heh, I went out and got the Zelda cube bundle (gift for family for xxx-mas), and just used a hair dryer to remove the Bundle sticker from the front... then took the Zelda disc from the box... does that make me a bad person? :-D

Saves me from buying M&L.. I probably won't play it much, and besides, all my money is going to XXX-Mas .. I spent $600 just yesterday alone :'(

I am going to cry now
In Europe outside of the Mario Kart bundle...
You can only get it via NOE's online store star catalog...
Which means you have to save up 4500 stars...
Which means at 250 stars per registered game...
I'd have to register about 18 Nintendo games!
Now I'm a big fan and all, but that's just insane

To top it off, the Zelda compilation disc will only be available in limited quantities in the star catalog. And it doesn't even come with it's own case nor cover. I don't think I've ever felt this screwed over before over something that's free

Tell me about it. I'm in Singapore, the closest region is either PAL Australian (usually slow games release) or NTSC Japanese (don't understand nuts about it). So I'm playing on an NTSU American Cube. I'm planning to get Mario Party 5, Mario Kart and Mario & Luigi Super Saga... But since I'm not in America, I can't get the Zelda disk!

alvin, if you get Nintendo to send the disk to my address, I would be willing to send it your way if you agreed to pay shipping.

I already have my own disc on the way, so it's not like I am trying to rip you off.  If you would like, you can get the disc sent to one of my aliases, Clyde Arrowny.  That way I will know it's for you.  I just have some pity on you, as I know what it's like to be left out of things like this, being Canadian and all.

I can't believe what just happened. I got an email from Nintendo saying that because I registered my Gamecube and games I was going to recieve the Zelda disc. The thing is I only registered my Gamecube and ONE game - Mario Kart. I even checked my account and it still only lists the one game.
I guess maybe this was a mistake and, if so, I hope it follows through and I actually get the disc. I was eventually either going to buy MP5 or M&L and I still will, but now I might get the disc a lot sooner than I expected.

Maybe it's not a mistake and Nintendo has simply revised the conditions to get the disc. Nintendo has made similar last minute changes before. It may have decided it was more important to get the whole game registration thing popularized over anything else. Maybe it realized that only requiring ONE registered game would mean that FAR more people would get into it. Of course Nintendo may have also done it to combat cheaters. People have been coming up with all kinds of evil schemes to register a second game they don't really have. Why should they be rewarded while honest Nintendo fans miss out? Now all those people who rummaged for hours through the dumpster behind their Blockbuster Video for a pin number may have done it for NOTHING. Now THAT would be justice

I got an email from Nintendo today saying they will send me the bonus disc within 2 weeks.
And I only registered my GC and my GBA SP.
Maybe the conditions have changed for real.
But I don't care because I'm still getting Mario Kart DD for my GC and Mario & Luigi for GBA.
So in any case, I'll get the disc

Title: RE: Zelda Bonus Disc....?
Post by: Ian Sane on November 21, 2003, 06:56:39 AM
If there is a problem I'm sure Nintendo will be wise to it pretty soon.  Getting an email after registering only one game is one thing.  It's no doubt an automated email so it may just be a bug in the code.  Actually having Nintendo send you something is another.  When they ship there's going to be human involvement with processing the order.  Odds are someone is going to notice that not everyone has everything registered properly.

I just hope that a bug or people getting PINs from dumpsters isn't going to cause Nintendo to ditch the whole thing before I get a disc.

Ok I found out the truth....

It appears Nintendo did not think it was fair for people who bought a gamecube earlier (like 2 weeks ago and later) did not get a zelda disc and the people who buy the system now for the same price get one.  In order to make it fair to all they allow you to get the disc by simply registering your Gamecube.  This way, as long as you bought a gamecube, you dont miss out on the FREE disc.  If you register a brand new gamecube that came with a zelda disc you will not recieve another one

Firstly, you have to register 2 games, not one- Mario Kart alone won't cut it. Secondly, you'll be emailed when the disc is sent.

You need to register 2 of the needed games to get the disc...Those that say that they are getting it for only registering their GC or registering their GC and a game are either lying or getting by on a glitch...

That can't possibly be true because I didn't get anything for registering just my Cube.  Now maybe they know if you bought it recently but even then that doesn't make sense because my friend got the email for just registering his Cube and GBA and he bought both well over a year ago.

Doesn't matter anyway because I've registered both Mario Kart and Mario & Luigi so I should be fine.

I just ordered a subscription online, and they had a huge list of free things from which I could choose one to be shipped with my first copy. One of those things was the Zelda Collector's Edition, so I went ahead and selected that. Maybe people who mail in a subscription get it by default.

Here's what I just got in my inbox:

Hello,

Thank you for registering your Nintendo GameCube at Nintendo.com.

We wanted to make you aware of an error in our product registration
program. In order to qualify for the Zelda collector's disc, we
requested that two software titles be registered in addition to a
Nintendo GameCube system.  However, due to a programming error, you
received an e-mail letting you know that you had qualified for the
Zelda collector's disc before all required products had been
registered.

We wanted to let you know that despite the error, we have gone ahead
and sent you the disc as stated in our e-mail.  It was sent via the
postal service and should be received in 3-5 days.

If you haven't yet registered any software titles, please be sure to
do so in order to be eligible for future promotions that are in the
works at Nintendo!

Thank you.

Hahaha! dude, they screwed up!! but I'm still getting the disc! YAY!!
It doesn't matter though because I'm expecting Mario Kart: DD and Mario & Luigi any day now.

I didn't want to exploit a glitch because I've actually bought both games too (they are on their way). And I'm gonna register them both when I get them.
And since I'm in France, I should have them in a few days, not like my bonus disc that should arrive at a friend's in California and then be shipped again to me.

I don't know why, but when I tried to register my cube, it said the code was invalid. How many digets is it supposed to have? I got the number from the bottom of my Cube but that didn't work. That would really suck if they don't give the disk 'cause I don't have the cube registered. I mean seriously, what other console could I POSSIBLY be buying Double Dash for?! STEWPID!

EDIT: Scratch that post. Like mouseclicker, My F*CKININTENDO won't recognize my screen name or password. Ok, mouse and anyone else having trouble with MY NINTENDO, here's some help. I used this to get back in my account.
1. Ask them to email you your password. Just type it in where it tells you to on the login page. They will send you a temporary password.
2. Open your email and copy the password. Paste it to the password area. For me this didn't work at first, but the password HAD to be right, so I pushed the send button a few times and finally it worked.
3. Now you MUST change your password and that's the only thing they let you do so do that.
4. Enjoy

If anyone knows why I can't register my Cube, I would appreciate the help.

Post by: Gibdo Master on December 08, 2003, 10:58:34 AM
Okay, it's Monday and I still haven't gotten my disk. I e-mailed Nintendo a couple days ago mainly over my concern about the January issue that I posted about earlier. For the hell of it I also briefly mentioned that I hadn't gotten my Zelda Collectors Disk either. I got a reply e-mail telling me that everything was cool with my subscription but they also said they were sending me a second Zelda Collectors Disk since I hadn't received the first one.

The e-mail said that if I get both disks I should send one of them back to them. My question is what could they do to me if I didn't? I would really like to give the second one to my niece since my brother is too lazy to sign her up for a NP subscription even though she's had one before. The more evil thing I would do is make a quick sixty or so bucks by selling it on ebay. I figured the worse thing Nintendo could do is not send me my NP subscriptions until I send the disk back or something like that. Of course how could they know if I get both disks anyway?

They'll know you have a second disc because you'll surely brag about it on this forum.

Of course they don't really know that you're Gibdo Master since you likely used your real name for your subscription.

Maybe they never sent you the first disc period and are just saying they'll send a second because that sounds better than "DUH We forgot to send you the disc."  Considering they messed up the registration process it's possible that they goofed on the shipping as well.  That could explain why so many of us haven't got the disc yet.  Of course the post office being swamped with all sorts of Christmas stuff is a more likely reason.

I too haven't got my disc yet but it's not two weeks for me until Wednesday so I'll be nice and give them until the end of the week.

I live in Los Angeles and my disc was shipped on the Dec. 4.   I have to wait until the 18 or 20th, I will just call Nintendo if it doesnt come by that time.

p.s.  I just subscribed for Nintendo Power  for the bonus disk, so anyone know a phone number I can just call instead of an email address?

Mine came in on the 10th as well.  The thing is, a rep I talked to last week told me to call in on Monday ( the 8th) if I still did not receive it, so I did.  The new rep said that he will send another one out to me.  Since I got this one after I called in, I will be receiving another copy as well.  I'm deciding whether or not to send it back or to put it on ebay. hm....

Mine was shipped in the batch on Nov. 20th, and recieved today!  Took 3 weeks.
They are sending me another, and I WILL return it.  This whole Zelda collection was generous of NOA to do, especially sending the "backup" disc without any proof that I didnt recieve the original, and I am not going to be one of the losers that tries get take for anything I can.

Then again, it makes you think they have literally millions of copies that 'need' liquidate in a certain time.
Maybe they will use in a press release after the holiday season "20 million Zelda disc were shipped during the holiday period, and sony can suck it" type thing.
Either way, thanks to NOA for making this Zelda thing happen.

Has anyone who has received their bonus disc experienced any problems with it?  My Cube restarted on me THREE times already, and each time happened when I chose to start a game.  A lot of the time, the Cube just makes a lot of noise, as if the disc is hitting something.  Lastly, the disc won't read at all; it doesn't even spin.  I know that it's not a problem with my cube, because I've tried other games and they all worked fine.

Has anyone else been having problems?

I called Friday to see what's up with my disc, and they offered to send another.  Naturally, the disc arrived Saturday morning, and now I feel like a jerk.  After all, it's not Nintendo's fault that the USPS takes three weeks to ship something cross-country.

But, I got my disc and I am happy.

I saw in the manual that there's something screwy with the sound in Majora's Mask.  How bad is it?  Having never played it, I was hoping to take advantage of this opportunity.

Just got it after three weeks.  Apparently "1-2 weeks" is a typo and it should have been "1+2 weeks".  I haven't played it much but I'm really enjoying the NES Zeldas.  I've never had an NES so this is my first real chance beyond emulation to give these games a try.  Though dated they're a lot of fun and unlike a certain recent Zelda game actually have a challenge.  I fear nearly every enemy I encounter as I should.  Zelda II is actually pretty cool, kind of like a Metroid game with RPG elements.  If it wasn't a Zelda game I think people would appreciate it more.  The concept is actually pretty solid.

The "history of Zelda" video is a huge disappointment.  The barebones approach to it is annoying enough but what really pissed me off is that they f*cked up the order of the games.  They put the Oracle games before Majora's Mask even though MM came out in 2000 and the Oracle games came out in 2001.  I mean it's pretty f*cking simple to figure out which game came out first.  I hate it when Nintendo themselves can't even get this sort of stuff straight.  It's the "Metroid came out in 1989" SSBM trophy all over again.  If I was in charge of NOA I would be a huge stickler over that sort of thing.

Similarly on the Metroid Prime page at Nintendo.com it used to say that Miyamoto was the creator of the series. He was never involved in anyway with the series until Metroid Prime.

The PSX port was a disaster.  The load times, and the HORRIBLE sound really killed the game.  That kind of stuff is tolerable from a free game, but not when you are expected to pay for it.

That being said, I think I FAR prefer the N64 version of Majora's Mask.  The GCN version gives me a headache.

I just got my disc today.  Ordered it as soon as it came out in Canada (well... a couple days late, but only because the games were late).

Yeah, AoL is pretty damn hard. I had to restart the game several times just to get to the first palace without dying because I was trying to get a zero death count. I finally beat the dungeon without dying and saved only to realize that each time you save it adds to your death count. That's complete and utter BS. They actually expected people to beat this game in one sitting without dying once?

Something else I think is completely stupid is that the game makers didn't put in anyway for you to warp to different areas in the over-world. It's just too hard to have to start at the North Castle each time you want to play considering how large the map is and how hard it is to get from one end to the other. Another thing that makes the game difficult is Link's short attack range. If they would have doubled the length of his sword and thrown in some warps in the over-world this game would have been much easier and more enjoyable.

I do have a lot of respect for the game though. Even though it is the black sheep of the Zelda series it was the first game to implement a lot of things that now have to be in a Zelda game. Things like the towns, more interaction with the characters, and the use of magic. There's probably more than that but that's all I can think of right now.

I believe you have until January 31st 2004.

Heh, it's funny reading the reactions of people playing Zelda 2 for the first time.

Worst. Miyamoto game. Evar.

Also, none of you truly own all the Nintendo made Zelda games unless you own Game & Watch Gallery 4, since it includes the Zelda G&W game. It's pretty good, and actually has some depth, relatively speaking.

"Another thing that makes the game difficult is Link's short attack range."

That bugs me in both games.  It's an irritating problem in Zelda 1 as well since all Link does is a sissy little stab so you have to be like right next to an enemy to hit him.  Why couldn't they just make it Link SWINGS his sword in both games?  Other NES games have done it so it's certainly not a hardware restriction thing.  If they ever make an updated remake I hope they change the sword attack from a stab to a swing.

At least in Zelda 1 Link had the sword beam that actually went all the way across the screen. The sword beam in Adventure of Link is pathetic and pretty much useless because it only damages the weakest enemies and only travels a few feet.

If they ever make an updated remake I hope they change the sword attack from a stab to a swing.

if they did that people would be complaining that they made the game too easy and they shouldn't mess with classics.

would you like them to add an *umph* everytime link attacks, too?

I'm talking about if they made a remake where they completely redid the graphics and sound and maybe added some new dungeons or items.  It would be sort of like the Resident Evil remake.  I don't want any voice samples though.  Man those always suck.

I wouldn't have a problem with these changes because the original is available on the Cube unchanged.  I have no problem with reworking or remaking a classic provided they allow you to also play the original.  I think the Super Mario Advance games should have allowed you to play it either in the new format or exactly as it was on the NES.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in Majora's Mask. Even though the slow down is only in a couple of areas it is still very annoying. I also got to experience my first freeze today. Luckily I had just started playing but now I'm paranoid about the game freezing on me again. Even though this was free I'm really surprised that Nintendo released it like this.

I really hope that when Wind Waker 2 is released they have another pre-order bonus disk with just Majora's Mask with all of these problems fixed. Normally I wouldn't expect Nintendo to do that but Ocarina of Time has been released on two bonus disks so it's not impossible. As a note I have the N64 version but after playing the Zelda games with the higher resolution I refuse to play them on my N64. The N64 versions have such horrible resolution I get sick from looking at the screen and it gives me headaches.

The port of MM is average to say the least.  It still chugs along in the hub world in some area's, but overall there seems to be alot less slowdown than in the N64 version.  Plus, high-res goes a long way, so much easier on the eye's.  The graphics are actually really pretty good, even by today's standards when in high-res.  Overall, I am happy that I can play MM on my Cube, even with some slowdown still intact.

You do realize that MM is being emulated on the GC?  MM was a last gen game from the N64.  I'm surprised they have it running as good as they do or even at all.  They can't fix the problems, because the GC just isn't powerful enough to emulate the later N64 games, no matter what they do.  I mean they could tone down the graphics and remove a few system hogging effects, but you'd just complain about that too.

Seeing as they've got the original source code they could always port it over instead of getting cute with emulators.

First of all Ocarina of Time works just fine and the GameCube is a lot more powerful than the N64 so I don't understand how it could have problems running an emulator. More than likely the problems with the slow down and freezing are just due to a quick and sloppy port.

The funny part of it is that they warn you when the game is loading up that there are problems with the sound when that is the least of the game's problems. Why didn't they also mention there was some nasty slow down in some areas and it has a tendency to freeze?

Oh has anyone else noticed that it looks like they fixed up the sprites for the items in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? In the Wind Waker bonus disk the sprites looked very pixilated.

Well, if it is emulation, its actually very good emulation.  Remember that if it was simply emulation then the visuals would still be in low-res, but they are not.  Look at it this way, the slowdown may be about the the same as in the N64 version, but at least you get high-res.  It was free, so we cant complain to much, but the OoT port was a much better one, almost no slowdown.

That's not necessarily true, especially for a 3d game that's rasterized in hardware.

I believe someone even went so far as to extract the OoT ROM from the Gamecube disc, which seems like fairly conclusive proof that the game is emulated.

I ordered Nintendo power over the phone, and the NOA rep. looked up my name, and my address from 1991 was still on file.  It was the last issue i received.  He said, 'I assume you've moved out by now".  Pretty funny stuff.  But anyway, he said about 10 days for the disc, and a month for the Mag.

Just wanted to add i'm one of the few people who actually think AOL is underrated.  I always liked it.

Learn to use your shield properly. Even if it means practising on guys with arrows or whatever, it'll be worth it. Save your money, there is an expensive item that will reduce the damage you take by half. Most of all, try to be sure you're in the right dungeon. You can aimlessly wander into one that is way to hard and that you don't even have the items to complete. If one dungeon seems to ramp up the learning curve too much, just go searching for another one.

I do have to say that AoL is the hardest Zelda game, but it isn't that tough. You just have to spend alittle time leveling up. Which I find is the hardest part about the game, because the leveling up doesn't help out as much as you think it would.

After receiving my Zelda bonus disk on Friday, and playing through OOT again, then playing through and beating MM for the first time, I will give my 2 cents.

Ocarina of Time was one of the greatest ever made in 1998. Still is today. Ocarina of Time is arguably best Zelda ever, and best ever. I can find almost no faults, and will forever be cherished as a classic. However, LTTP is also my number 1 Zelda ever, and favorite of all time (along with Metroid Prime). I love OOT (the ) even more, especially after it being re-released. All 9 dungeons were SO enjoyable. Inside the Deku Tree, Dodongo's Cavern, Jabu-Jabu's Belly, Forest Temple, Fire Temple, Water Temple, Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, and Ganon's Tower. From beginning to end a classic. Near perfection.

Majora's Mask had a live up to, from the (IMHO) near-perfect OOT and LTTP. It didn't quite live up to either, but is still a near-classic and is a solid entry into the Zelda series. The lack of dungeons, the foolish focusing on side-quests made it (like tWW) seem rushed. Other than several major and minor flaws, Majora's Mask is worth playing and is one of the best N64 . The three-day system was sheer genius. The four dungeons were all long and engaging- Woodfall Temple, Snowhead Temple, Great Bay Temple, and Stone Tower Temple. The came out and some loved it even more than OOT.

I dunno, I actually enjoyed the sidequests MORE than the main quest in Majora's Mask. I liked going on these missions to help out other people, just to see how their stories would turn out.

I got mine yesterday.  Not too bad...seems that they gave OoT a slight graphical update and the framerate is much more consistent this time around, though I wish they had done the same for Majora's Mask.  Porting it over rather than emulating it would have been a better idea.

Still, LoZ is a blast, so I'm not arguing.

I saw online that there's supposedly a different way of getting the Zelda Collectors disk.  I know about getting the disk via the bundle pack, the NP subscription, and the two of four selected games, but I've seen, on a couple of different sites that you only need to buy one of the original four titles, or two titles from a selection of players' choice titles.  Can anyone here confirm that this is actually legit or are they just rumors.

OoT is better than tWW. tWW is inferior in just about everyway. You don't have to just run everywhere. It is much faster once you get Epona. And, it adds a more adventurous feel to the game, anyways.

tWW was very rushed, and it is so obvious. OoT is much more memorable. Like when I walked out of the Temple of Time and seeing Hyrule Market Town in ruins.

And dungeons, OoT had 9 dungeons, while tWW had 5. OoT had twice more.

tWW was not as good as either OoT or MM, IMHO. It just didn't live up to them.

There, now that should spark a debate!

[SPOILERS, kind of!!]

While I do prefer both OoT and MM to WW, I have to say, the first time I entered Hyrule Temple in Wind Waker, where everything was black and white and frozen, and then walked out of the Temple in the back, I was blown away. That, along with the ending to Ico, is one of the most memorable videogame sequences I think I will ever experience.

OoT has been re-released, along with MM. GCN is now the supreme Nintendo console, with those two games. OoT AND Metroid Prime... on the same system=best. system. ever.

Anyways, tWW is so great, yet so flawed, and could have easily blown away OoT if only it had a few more dungeons and a bit harder.
