Title: I could really use some help from those who know about videogame history
Post by: Fish on November 12, 2003, 08:02:16 AM
I am on this basic Japan language/history class, and we had to pick a number and then we got some subject to make this essay or whatever, I felt really lucky when I got videogames, I had played since NES so I though it was going to be a piece of cake. YAY!

But no, it should be ready tomorow, and all I got is the topic. I can't even find out what was the first Japanese videogame!

So anyone know some good site where I can't get some VG history and other stuff? And this is only Japanese VG history, so Pong and other western thingys are out. Thanks.

EDIT: What a heck happened to my Avatar? it was a small Mario last time I saw it!
EDIT2: I took off the Avatar before one of the mods put one of those "I dont like to follow rules" or something like that as my avatar.

One way to figure out what the first Japanese videogame is to figure out what the first game was by various popular Japanese developers (like Sega or Namco) and then say that the first of those released was the first ever Japanese game.  If you're wrong I'll bet your teacher won't know the difference.  It's probably Pac-Man.

Yep, Pac-Man would have been my guess too. Also it has to be 4 pages minimum, so that won't get me too far, and it's almost 10PM here, and I have to return it 8Am,  so there is 10 hours left, and I would have to sleep too... oh well... guess I just have to get "sick" and work it over the week end. But Mario Kart should be here tomorrow... this is way too complicated....

Also looking for google was bit stupid, when I put first japanese videogame, first pages were filled with GC, Xbox and GC stuff, so that probably rules that out.  Gamspot had this videogame history thing, but it most was western and stuff.

I did a gigantic presentation and 10-page paper on games for a prior Japanese culture class. I'd be happy to help you out in a bit.

I posted in somewhere in the bowels of my interweb journal, I guess around the end of January, if you'd like to go looking. Feel free to use it as a source, but don't just plagiarize, y'know. I think I listed some sources, too, if you want to check those out.

I see I made a tiny factual error deep in the bowels of that thing; TaQ and DJ TAKA are different people.

It's Dr. Faust, Ty's favorite character from the Guilty Gear series...If you are aware of the series, then you should be able to tell who my favorite character is as well...

wow, that's like the same amount of sources i've used in ALL my essays thus far in life

Wow, thats just way too much info for 4-5 pages.

Anyway, very cleverly I decide to go to sleep and hope for the best, then I just said my printer was busted and I would bring it tomorrow, so now I have about 18 hours until school starts, and Mario Kart waiting at the post office, horrible, just horrible...

And I think what they are looking for is little more like the history of videogames, like what was first, how much they cost to make, what are the top sellers(Did find that from the magicbox, thanks) and what is the most popular in Japan and little about the major companys and their influense. And then I'll just fill it with pics, so I probably can make this in 2 hours, if I would just get started.

Mario Kart....

Essay...
