Title: Another advertising blitz
Post by: Berto2K on November 11, 2003, 04:55:47 PM
Nintendo has resurrected the "heart monitor" ads. I have caputured the new Sonic Heroes commercial here, and I have seen parts of THUG, PoP, and heard of Viewtiful Joe ones. As always I will be keeping my eye out for them and try to bring them here.
EDIT: I had to take this offline for now atleast to make room for new stuff.

I hope Sonic Heroes is good...I don't think I can handle another mediocre Sonic game...
(Thanks for the vid, Berto )

I just saw a "normal" comemrcial for Mario and Luigi Super Saga. I didn't realize what it was till about halfway through. Shows what is supposed to be Mario and Luigi growing up on old home video. Then it says something about being back together after 20 years, and game footage.

I'm sure many of you have seen this already, but here is the commercial for Mario Party 5.
EDIT 2: Had to take M&LSS off line for now to make room for new stuff.

HAHAHAHHA MARIO PARTY 5 HAS AN AWSOME AD right in the groin! i just watched them all, Mario Party is the best, followed by Mario and Luigi, then Viewtiful Joe and lastly Sonic, only because it's pretty short :\

Heh, if you think Mario Party 5's commercial is the best, then you haven't seen Mario Party 4's...

I saw the Sonic commercial last night, and I was like "Dude, this game doesn't even come out until next year and Nintendo's ALREADY advertising it!"

I saw the Sonic and Mario & Luigi commercial last night on MTV. It says Sonic is available now, but it isn't coming out until December (not next year).

I have seen all the heartbeat commercials: Viewtiful Joe, Tony Hawk Underground, Prince of Persia, Need for Speed Underground and Sonic Heroes. I think VJ is the best out of them all, but Sonic is great too.

That list is totally messed up. Sonic is coming next year though.

Sonic Heroes on Gamecube is coming out December 5 here in Australia, with the PS2 and XBOX versions arriving next year. Unless Australia somehow gets the game first, then the Gamecube version of Sonic Heroes should be out this year i the US.
Oh yeah nice commercials, thanks for capturing them Berto! That Mario & Luigi one brings a smile to my face
I wish we got cool Nintendo commercials down here

I hesitated to download the Mario & Luigi commercial, as I thought I had already seen it. But it rocked, and I hadn't seen it. (I saw a different one).
but does anyone know where I can get the song that plays in that?

Seriously, what is going on with Sonic Heroes? I find it hard to believe Nintendo could make a mistake as big as advertising a game as being "out now" when it won't really be out anytime this year. Sure, Nintendo has advertised games in advance before but the commercials always made it clear they were "coming soon". Who knows, maybe Nintendo has reached some deal with Sega to get just the Gamecube version out for the holiday season in the US with the other versions still not scheduled for release until next year.

Let's just maintain this as the unofficial game trailer/media thread, whaddaya say?
A much higher quality trailer for 1080* Avalanche is now up at the re-launched Nintendo of America website http://www.nintendo.com
Scroll down to the bottom of the "new spotlight" window on the right. 1080* is listed under "video".
The trailer's an updated version of the one released by NST within a month ago featuring a punk soundtrack (it's not the same trailer on the MKDD bonus disc; it covers the whole song). It's 480x360 Quicktime format, the image quality is crisp enough to show some nice details and the motions are smooth, but it's about 30mb for only 2 minutes of video and the audio quality isn't as high as I'd like.
This might be the start of a new *good* trend for Nintendo downloadable media.

did anyone see the 4 page "who are you" ad in the new rolling stone (cover story: 500 greatest albums of all time)? it features 4 bands (one per page) and gives little stats about their favorite nintendo games as well as what they're up to in the music business right now. it's great placement too--right between the top 20 albums of all time and the top 30. nintendo probably spent more on this single spread than they did last year on all advertisements combined.

I saw a commercial for 1080 today on FX. I am not at school or I would probably have had it captured. It was on FX. Starts out with a guy sitting at a kitchen table. He plays one of those canned horn thingies. The it shows a door falling and 2 kids standing in snowboarding gear with "Who Are You?" at the bottom. Then cuts to some of the footage from the trailers. They even kept the song in there thank god. Can't wait till I get home to capture it.
EDIT: I found a cool site a while ago that has some tv commercials and trailers for games. I took a wil guess that they might have the commercial and they do!! Go here and it should be like the 2nd one in the list. They are not very high res, so if you want that, wait till I get it. They have both a quicktime and windows media video format ones.

My, holiday break Pt. 1 was nice. Nice to see new movies, too.
I don't like how Ruliweb puts their fat logo on their clips. Hell, I don't like seeing any "captured by" or "it belongs to us" logos.
Title: RE:Another advertising blitz!!
Post by: Berto2K on November 30, 2003, 05:33:25 PM
Somehow my capture setting went out to sea, and stuff is capturing at like file sizes that are 3-4 times as big . I trying to get it fixed. So until I do, there won't be any more commercials from me. I was able to capture these before the downfall though.
I have found some very old school commercials from around the web. Some are tagged from different sites, some aren't. I can put some of them up too to keep you all entertained in the interim.

There is going to be somewhat of a delay somewhere in January where I for sure won't be posting, or probably even capturing anything. I am having to move back home from school Therefore I won't have a 100mb webspace (school provided), or a tv hookup in my room. My parents said that they would work on getting a cable run up there though once I do get back home. I'm not sure what my hosting capabilities will be either. I know that Earthlink provides users with some webspace, but I don't know the amount of space.
If there are any commercials that I have previously mentioned in here that are not available now, send me a PM and I will repost it.

The 1080*: Avalanche FMV opening (this one has better audio quality than the one on Nintendo's site) and the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! FMV opening too. Both are 512x384 DivX 5.1.1 format.
And this is something a lot of people probably missed, the full-length N. American trailer for Viewtiful Joe that was inside P.N.03. Encoded a while ago in 512x384 DivX 5.0.5 format.

Sweet. I have 1080 and Mario Kart, so the intros weren't much more for me. But I never even so much as got to rent PN03. I finally got to renaming all my commercials and trailers. Now I just need to write up a list of all of them.

On a side note, in my school, there is a thing that we have called Channel One News that is broadcasted to a bunch of high schools across the US. I've been noticing that there are becoming more and more Nintendo commercials aired during the commercial breaks. Sometimes even 2 out of 3 commercials are Nintendo ones!! I say bravo to Nintendo for finally advertising right!

Of course seeing commercials on some crap school channel may turn people off, but. . . it still gets the idea into their mind. Doesn't matter where it is, as long as it's there, I suppose.
Title: RE:Media blitz!!
Post by: Berto2K on December 13, 2003, 02:04:16 AM
Okay, so I thought it might be smart to formally name all my commercials and make like an inventory list of them. Well after about 2.5 hours of viewing and renaming, and at at least 45 minutes of typing the list, I have done it. Now you can all take a look and see all what I have. I have labeled each with the file format that they are in also. There are some that are doubles and in two formats. If you got any questions, either email me, post 'em here, or pm me. You can find the link in my sig below.
Oh ya, if you want a certain one, just ask me and I will upload it. I won'd have all this webspace for much longer, maybe a month. Also I will be away from this computer from the 22nd of Dec to the 28th as I am going home for Christmas.

Hey guys/gals, I just wanted to say that I prob won't be posting much of any more commercials on here. I picked up a staff spot at another cube site. I won't say which it is, since you can't advertise. And I don't want to detract any traffic from this site. I will be running a tv commercial section there. I'm sure if you ask around, you will be able to find out which site I will be working at. Do not fret though, I will be poking my head in here still and posting everyonce in a while.

Dang, though I'm not Fileshack, I'll say I'm sorry. People must be downloading those Half Life 2 trailers like mad; I just know that most of the time I try downloading (from the San Francisco server) I only wait in line for a couple minutes or less.
Oh, and just like any other free downloads site, things screw up from time to time.

I was looking for a few commercials but had no luck in finding them so I thought I would request for them. I was wondering whether you could find commercials for the original mario party 1, 2 and 3? If you remember the first one was something like mario getting arrested or something (I vagualey remember it). A link or upload will do. (btw, this is my first post so im new to the forums) Keep up the good work too.

Well, at 'classicgaming.com' I found 1 mario party 2 commercial but it was not exactly the right one. The first ever mario party commercial had mario having a big party and gets arrested by police (Or something like that, it's been a while so I don't fully remember). I am not sure if there are other commercials for mario party 2 & 3 with the actual person in a suit as mario. Classicgaming.com had a commercial, but without the guy in the suit as mario, so I am not sure if there is even one. But the original mario party one is the only one I know exists. Its just that when is has mario in it, it is quite halarious - Like the mp4+mp5 commercials. I beleive Super Mario Advance 2 had the same thing. I hope I have made most of what I am trying to say clear, if you need more details, I'm always here.

Well, you got some part right, he was on the edge of this rock spreading his arms wide holding a yellow flag like thing through the windy air, but I don't remember (or see - I have just watched the video) anything to do with the crotch part.

I <3 that song.
But according to the commercial, our captain and his piks don't make ripples when they enter water...........
Title: RE: Media blitz!!
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on April 21, 2004, 05:10:34 PM
I can partially explain what you're seeing:
1) This video (commercial) had its field lines blended and not accurately deinterlaced, so all visual motion is thus blurred and lacks clear detail. (Unacceptable!)
2) 00:06sec into the clip, the stem of the Blue Pikmin does cause surface ripples.
3) 00:08sec into the clip, a Blue Pikmin unit enters the water. Because this is a high-motion scene, image(frame) detail drops dramatically ON TOP OF the blur issues mentioned above. If you look closely, a bubbly splash of water is kicked up into the air when they break the surface, AND there is a whole mess of ripples following behind them. It's just that the style of the water surface combined with the video quailty shortcomings make the ripples difficult to notice.

Anyone know where to find that new Gameboy Advance commercial? I saw it, I think, on MTV while channel flipping. Guy with what appears to be a mullet starts playing his Gameboy, everything goes into a cool art format, Who are you? comes up in stylistic letters. . . shows some clips from Metroid: Zero Mission, though there may be alternate versions with different games. Very cool commercial. I'll look around some, too, but just wanting others to know about maybe help look.

Quote I am sorry but with the exception for the awesome Metroid Prime commercial (best.commercial.ever.) the Nintendo commercials really suck
You're wrong about that. There are some Nintendo commercials I haven't seen, but of all the ones I have, there is not one I do not like (and believe me, I am very critical about my commercials. Death penalty should be enforced against those that make crap commercials). Some are less than brilliant (Mario Party commercial), but others are just plain awesome, and are some of my favorite commercials ever (Metroid Prime commercial, 180 games commercial from a while back, Freeboy, etc.). The only one I can recall disliking is the first Zelda commercial, but that makes up for its crappiness with nostalgia.

Yes, indeed it's natively 720x480 *ON DVD*, but that's for *NTSC TV FORMAT* where we tend not to see the 16+ or so vertical lines that lie in both the extreme left and right of the frame image -- it's needless overscan (unless you're watching an anamorphic widescreen movie, in which case just about every pixel needs to be shown). What I did (and always tend to do) was crop off the vertical black bars on the sides to present the video in its native [640,4xx] resolution that *the majority of GameCube games process at*. So, the (DivX-endcoded) game image displays at its native resolution, and at the same time is nicely formatted to the general 4:3 aspect ratio we view on our on PC monitors. No need to waste encoding bits/pixel on empty black bars.

Since Fileshack seems too "busy" to post my other submissions at the moment, I can give direct links for the other high-rez trailers like the new Legend of Zelda (press conference version with the awesome "traditional" Zelda-trailer soundtrack; the same one PGC tried to encode a while back but just couldn't seem to get the kinks out of) and Paper Mario 2.
17.0 MB for Legend of Zelda 17.6 MB for Paper Mario 2
PM me if you're interested.

MORE high quality E3 2004 trailers from Nintendo's E3 2004 B-Roll DVD:
Again, to clarify, this Zelda trailer is the one those lucky media attendees saw at the press conference, which has the "traditional" "exciting" trailer music that was used in the teaser trailer for Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and Ocarina of Time. The Zelda trailer from Nintendo.com didn't have this music, and thus sucks in grand comparison. This DivX version is roughly the same size as the Nintendo.com version, but has higher quality audio and video.
Kiss my butt, QuickSlime. Bite me, Windows Mediocre Video.
*Adobe Premiere was not used in the process of encoding these videos. It can't handle teh Zelda or teh DivX.

I also finally nabbed the full-length (3min) Resident Evil 4 E3 trailer (as opposed to Nintendo's 1min). It was available in the Sept '04 issue of Famitsu Wave DVD, the one with "Boob or Alive Ultimate" on the cover. Nice cover. It excites me.

Right now I'm doing the doubles gimmick final against, you guessed it, Bowser and Bowser Jr. Seeing them play together, that's the team I should have picked but it's too late now.
I can't get anything past Bowser. He just stands there in the middle of the court and hits anything I throw at him. He's HUGE.

*Some notes about Fileshack
- You're now allowed to download for free, WITHOUT logging in. However, your downstream will be capped at 50KB/sec. Edit: I see they've lowered it... >=U
- Creating a free login gives you a max downstream of 500KB/sec.
- Both free services are subject to first-come-first-serve waitlisting.
- The paid Mercury subscription eliminates the above restrictions ("unlimited" bandwidth).
The logins exist for statistical purposes, helping Fileshack monitor/organize traffic and bandwidth usage.

Nintendo has a nifty little gadget they use at demos and tradeshows that lets you hookup a TV to the motherboard of a DS. That's what allows them to make TV captures (it'd be nice if they made a consumer version for [me]). The DS trailers I got came from the promo DVDs and press kits, so I just compressed them for internet sharing.
~~~~~
I like Fileshack (fileplanet and everyone else makes me sick). The site is easy on the eyes, the servers are reliable, and the staff there are really nice and receptive of my submissions -- they personally email me every time they accept something OR when they apologize for taking a long time to host things.
If you want a complete listing of my Fileshack uploads, visit my site [WINK].
Can you please explain to me how this capture stuff works Pro666? I want to see if I can get the school to spring for one for our games-program computer lab.
I will share my knowledge in due time, just like how I got around to capturing ADA WONG cutscenes requested by JonLeung.
I got the PC version of Resident Evil 4, which has the cut scenes actually just as .AVI video files.
Would captured GCN/Wii videos look better than the PC ones?
I'll have them ready by the end of this week (under Wii Media Blitz), so you be the judge.
BLAST FROM DA PAST
Talk about niche.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Introduction *480p / 60fps
Also, finally added select MP3s from Echoes' soundtrack directly converted from the game's digital music files, with the glitches in some tracks manually cleaned-out since Retro was too lazy or rushed to properly review the game's audio.
Yeah, so I'm watching Caveman (yes, its horrible) and they are playing the Wii. Good product placement.
This is a PhailCube thread.
Keep the non-gaming talk elsewhere.
