Title: Who here has a life?
Post by: DarkRockerX on November 01, 2003, 09:33:19 AM
Do any of you actually have lives?
I have a life, but is it very exciting? No.

I do, on occassion. But not really. My hair is blue now, though, for a while. So does that qualify me for livelihood?

I go to the bar now and then. I have a friend who comes over to play video games, and we sometimes go to the strip club. Does that count?
But no, I don't think I have much of a life. The majority of my time is spent here at my computer, or playing video games.

My day consists of any combination of the following activites- playing videogames, surfing the internet, watching cartoons, eating, sleeping. Aside from going to school and buying more videogames, I rarely have any interaction with the outside world. If that doesn't answer your question, nothing will.

Well I'm not a very social person, so I don't do too many social activities(I've been pretty much labeled "the nice guy that keeps to himself" at school)...I try to do things with my social friends, such as go to parties and such, but I find myself much more comfortable alone or with a just a couple close friends...A life, yes, but a normal one, no...^_^

I hang out with many different folk, though mainly my main group of friends. . . about six or seven. I'm well liked and friends with most of the smarter (though not necessarily geeky) people in my class, but we're not good great awesome friends. We just like each other. There are a few other people, maybe, that consider me friends, but aside from the previously mentioned people, I'm generally just considered a complete weirdo. Which I am, so yeah.

Well how the hell does that work? Seriously, I NEED to know. If you are just as geeky as us, how the hell do you actually get a girl, and better yet, how the hell do you keep her once she finds out?

You have to find a girl who appreciates you for your dorkyness/geekyness/whateverness. I know that sounds overly simplistic but I think it's true. You should never have to change who you are just to try to impress a girl.

Exactly, but that just means we're going to have to get used to a life of being single since there aren't too many girls who embrace my geekiness/nerdiness. I went out trick or treating with 6 other people last night, 2 of them girls, and I felt so sorry for them because the whole night is was just 5 guys talking videogames, which they obviously didn't like. Then we went home and, you guessed it, played videogames. If I ever get with someone, she's going to have to at least have the groundwork for being a gamer herself, or our relationship is never going to work out.

Actually i have 99 lives thanks to the continuous loop in world 3 level 3 by the red shell which acts as a automatic killing device to take care of those evil shy guys who fall foolishy to their deaths right into my red shell of doom as it subsequently bounces off the walls going left and right, and the shy guys just keep falling into the pit of death as i laugh manically at their misfortunes, which results in me continuously getting life after life.

All the ones like that I have known are already spoken for. I was actually discussing this with The Perm last night though, and we both agreed that this was a huge turnon I think.

Pumpkins are a turn-on?
Yeah. . . there's one girl that I'm currently trying to convert to Gamecubism. She played once. . . Smash Brothers with all of my friends and me. . . she got CREAM'D in that one, but there was nothing I could do about it. We then went at Monkey Billiards together, one on one, me and her. She won one round, I won one, we were near tied on the last shot, my turn. I fully charge it on the hard hit mode and just do a random shot, and guess what? Yeah, I make it in and beat her. I felt really bad about that.
But so far as I know that's all of her Gamecube experience, and she dissed it once, sort of offhandedly. . . so now I'm subtly changing her, bit by bit. Till she's crazy for Nintendo. And what will I have accomplished in terms of me getting some? JACK CRAP. But at least Ninty'll benefit

As for girls appreciating your geekyness, its simple, put shiny blinking lights around geeky things, and they will follow the lights. (If your girlfriend lapses into epileptic shock, its not my fault)

I don't know why you guys think you have no lives because you spend your time on the computer and playing videogames. It depends what you think "having a life" is, but to me, computers and videogames ARE your lives. I think I have a better social life than you people, based on what you all said about your friends, activities, etc. but it doesn't really mean you have no life. Of course, to get girls, you'll just have to get a BETTER life J/k.

I think the possibility of getting a girlfriend now are pretty much out of the window for me. There are a few, but I daresay that 96% of the girls at my school think I'm an utter weirdo. . . actually more of a weirdo than a geek.
Come to think of it, maybe I should try, just for fun. Maybe weirdness is a turn-on for them

I have a life. I know this because I have little time to play games unfortunately. Between work, university study and socialising (ooooh aaaaaah) I don't really get to sit down with that little purple box of love. I went a whole week without playing the Cube, and I just got F-Zero GX and Viewtiful Joe too. Boo!

I don't capitalize god because I don't recognize it as a proper noun. So many religions have different views on him, besides the fact that he (she?) is by his very nature enigmatic, and that's not even counting the polytheistic religions. Hence, god with a lower case g.

You know what? I just remembered one time that I actually did manage to attract girls of my age. It was waaay back in high school, but it was strange the way it happened. Normally I am a pretty shy person. When among a group of people I don't know, I shut my mouth, keep quiet, and sit in the back corner of a room and hope that nobody notices me. That's what really made this event so strange.
I was selected to be part of a focus group to evaluate and give suggestions for a website that was supposed to be used for educating and providing resources on how young people could get jobs at oil companies or something like that. I really don't remember. But they assembled a group of people from my school and another school to give their input. I knew the people from my school, which I suppose loosened me up a little bit. But it was still strange.
The thing is that during the conference, I began to get very chatty, and started to crack a few jokes. For example, when I was writing on my form what I wanted to be after I graduated, I wrote Gigolo, and read it out as written when we had to tell a little about ourselves. But the thing is that I really didn't shut up that whole night, and I always had something to say. I thought that my guidance councellor who came with us was going to kill me at the end of the night, but afterward she told me that I did a VERY good job of providing humor to a situation that could have become pretty hostile otherwise. (Basically, the group of people from the other school were complete idiots, and our group was composed of mostly A students. Their suggestions wer downright stupid, and were grating on all of our nerves.)
But the thing is that the general consensus afterward was that one of the girls from the other school had a big crush on me by the end of the night, and one of the girls from my school wouldn't leave me alone for like months afterward. I eventually managed to get her to leave me alone by showing her one of my "other" personalities, and she decided I wasn't worth the effort. The reason I did that I suppose was that I was afraid of what would happen if I did start dating her, and I really wasn't attracted to her at all.
But the thing is that I showed a great deal of confidence that I normally don't have that night, and it did wonders. Of course there weren't any people around that I really wanted to impress, but whatever. I wouldn't have behaved like that if there were. I would have been much too frightened. The point is that Ms. Pikmin does seem to be right in that confidence is really one of the things that girls look for.

It's good that worked for you then, Ninja, but I'm like that all the time and the best I can show for it is a few friends that happen to be girls. I've had entire classes rolling on the floor laughing with a single comment, but no girlfriend.
I used to be really shy- I always worried about first impressions, about whether or not people liked me, etc, etc. Then one day in 6th grade I decided screw it, I wouldn't care what anyone thought about me. It was almost an overnight change from being the quiet shy person that never talked to to an outgoing guy who would join in any conversation. Unlike most people my age, I couldn't be happier.

The thing is that it ALWAYS works for me whenever I am just too tired, too bored, too drunk, too stoned to care. That's not the only time that it's happened to me. I might just be better at it than you are, but I seriously lack the ability to do it very often.

Life? Well, that's a matter of opinion. Personally, I like the electric snail. *bbuuuUUUUUZ* (Everybody needs to watch Futurama)
I think I have some sort of life. I play games, I chat on the Internet, I'll do childish immature shit outside with friends. I also like to complain at people who think the definition of having a life is having a girlfriend and 'getting lots of sex bro'. If I had no life, I'd be dead. Everybody has a life. The end.

"No, but we stopped at every fire hydrant along the way."
Yeah. THEY all thought it was funny. (ironic thing is that I didn't know what dogs acually DID at fire hydrants. all i knew was that they seemed to like them

That's okay KnowsNothing.
I actually forgot that you're 13. That would make me seem pretty old. I can remember being in 8th grade(right?) and anyone over 25 seemed way older. You are one of the few people here who are young enough to realistically be my son. Yes, some people are in various stages of teen years, but I mean young enough to be my son without me having to have been a knocked up teenager. 20 is young to have a child, but not ridiculously young.
I will now stop working on my middle finger art.

AP classes require you to pay attention in class and know how to bs papers very well, but thats all it takes me. That is to say, the AP elective classes, like Human Geography, US History, etc. As for AP Maths, sciences, and languages, they really take an assload of work to pull off.

Bill, I'm in Honors English 10, Honors Advanced Programming, Chemistry (which is normally a junior class), and Honors Algebra II (which is also a junior class), and I have A's in all of them with little to no stressful work. The only honors/AP class I didn't take at my school was AP World History, because I didn't see the justification of the extra workload and "learning", and everybody I've talked to in the class has said it's not only pointless and unnecessary, but incredibly difficult as well. I quite simply don't see the added benefit I'm going to be getting from having a class like that. In my normal World History class I have something like a 110%. My teacher constantly tells me I should be in AP, but I constantly tell her I don't see any reason to.

Heres a reason, if you make a 3,4,or 5- depending on the college, at the AP exam it counts as a credit.
Title: RE:Who here has a life?

Several reasons that doesn't matter to me, manunited- one, I doubt any college I'll go to will accept that as college credit, two, I doubt ANY college would take a sophomore world history class as college credit, and three, I hope to Klep out of history anyway, and if I don't, I certainly won't mind taking the class, as I've always enjoyed history.

Junior high was better for me. 8th grade was the best. I was pretty happy that year. Highschool was pretty depressing for me. I just hated it. Life is so much better once you graduate and get the hell away from all the bs that ensues in that environment.

I think high school is socially way more stressful. In college you realize that all the social crap that went on in high school was in no way important to the rest of your life. I felt like I had been released when I graduated. College is better. You have alot more freedom to get the hell away from the type of people that made your highschool life hell. They also don't seem to want to purposely get after you as much.

I don't get the system there in the US (but please, lets not discuss it. We had a HUGE discusssion somewhere in the Aussie thread). Uni is heaps cool, depsite having to hand up 4 major assignments on the same bloody day. Last thursday, I go into my LAST CLASS EVER for this year, and my tutor tells me that the assignment is due today, not friday like i thought and i'm like wtf. So i had to spend the whole day finishing it off, then email it to him. I hadn't started my other three assignments that were due friday, so i only did two of them. I just did my last one over the weekend and handed it up yesterday morning at 7am. And now, I am freeeeeeee! And there is the MAtrix marathon on Wednesday! Simultaneous Matrix Revolutions release around the world!
Uni is cool, cause the tutors are cool (so far), and we all get along like mates, unlike at school when some teachers expect you to worship them like they are thy God. Uni's prolly really cool for me cause i have NO exams whatsoever for any of my subjects.

I'm taking all the AP courses available at my school. . . and two classes that are harder, but not considered Honors: Physics (I want to disembowel the teacher and feed him to his children (who, by the way, were almost definitely born when the bastard was about forty years old)) and French (cool class). I've never had any problems whatsoever. . . I do nothing, absolutely nothing. . . and I mean NOTHING in Calculus AP, and I still have a better grade than a lot of people in the class. I literally teach myself everything during the test.
Whereas in Physics I have a C because I do less than nothing in the class. Never in my 12 years of education have I experienced anything more horrible. I sometimes wonder how I manage to keep up my grades while still doing nothing at all in class. I figure my teachers must really like me or something, because there is no way I'm really getting all of those points.
On the AP tests for 11th grade I made a 3 on English and a 3 on American History. Which pissed me off. I'm going to do better next time around. Except in Calculus. They won't even bother grading that one.

I do VERY well on every test and crud, but HW just seems uninportant now. It slips off my radar each day after school, and when I find out that I have a 74 HW average (happened last year), I'm like "meh" cause I still get an A due to my tests. whatever.
I beat myself up if I get a C, and I don't even like B's. But I'm still happy with a B. I absolutely HATE people that go "*sniff* I GOT A B+!!! WAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
It's a fweepin B! Be happy!

No way, Ms.Pikmin- middle school is WAY more socially stressful than I could even dream of high school being. By high school nearly everyone has figured out who they are, everyone has a personality and is generally being themselves. Unfortunately, they do all their finding themselves in middle school. And about college being more stressful, I meant in a more academic and responsibility sense, since more many people college is when you first move out of the house.

I tend not to have any social problems, but I'm very apt at avoiding problems in general. Take today for example. . . I go to school with blue hair. There are strict rules against having colored hair; one guy got in serious trouble for having pink tint in his hair. Anyway, nothing. No administrators bothered to stop me. Very few people said anything about my hair (I figure most people are intimidated by me and my weirdness). . . those that did usually complimented on it.
That's pretty much the extent of my interaction with people. Anybody that I don't know leaves me alone, lest I tear out their eyes and eat them with milk for my cereal. Or at least that's what they think, for some reason or another. I once sort of had problems with people, but they leave me alone now.
And those people that do know me generally like me, so social stress in my life equals -4.

But what's great is people seem to like me anyways I can just be myself. I don't go around advertising my nerdiness, because really, nobody cares about the lack of support for the GC. I speak nerd with 2 other people (GC fans of course). don't take me as a poser or anything, because i think it's really not worth it to be part of the cool group, because they really don't like you and they end up being jerks anyway. the end.

I like Pumpkin personally. But I have learned to hate all Pies, Cookies, and just about every other bakery item that gets used for spamming on every bloody board I visit!
But yeah, Mouse Clicker, you really need to learn to take a chill pill. I mean, it's not really like people enjoy having a long winded argument about whether high school or junior high is better. I mean, it's completely stupid and pointless. It's even more pointless to actually fight in depth over it. That's really the reason I have always backed out of arguments with you. You just don't know when enough is enough.
But I am not about to get into a debate over this, so this is my LAST word on the subject.

No, I just don't like it when people get all soft and don't want to debate anything- I mean, that's what message boards are for! If you don't want to debate, stay out of it to begin with, but don't get mad when I follow you up on it.
And that's no good- I can't stand cherry pie. You know what IS good, though, mock apple pie, made with Ritz crackers instead of apples. You'd be surprised how authentic it tastes.

You are being way too serious. You said above to stay out of message boards if a person (me) doesn't want to debate. What you are missing is that not everything posted is meant for debate. We all post opinions and then others may agree or disagree. It doesn't need to turn into a debate every time people have conflicting opinions.

I said stay out of a debate, not the message board- we have people like KnowsNothing who don't debate a whole lot but are still great additions to the board (not that you aren't, it's just an example). THIS thread is in a debate, or at least it was, so you shouldn't be surprised, and certainly not angry, when someone follows you up under the assumption that you're debating when you enter it. It's like going to a movie theater and not wanting to see a movie.

*sigh*
Asking who has a life or not is hardly an excuse to start an argument Mouse Clicker.

Why is it suddenly an argument when I finally get my point across? How am I the bad guy here? How did this turn around on me? I don't get it! I'm not as thickskulled as you may think I am, I just don't yield my position when someone fails to convince me, and I cannot see how that's a bad thing.

The problem is that a subject becomes an argument the second you post...

The problem is people automatically assume I'm on some jihad the second I join in a debate, and then rail on me for it, either from the beginning or when they can't support their side (this case is not the latter). At least the people at IGN understood how a message board worked.

Mouse, get a grip. There was NO DEBATE going on. What are you talking about? Re-read the pages again. Everyone who was posting was just posting their experiences.
YOU are the one who chose to TRY to start debating. I thought it was silly to start a debate just because I thought high school was more stressful than junior high. YOU are the one who sees a freaking arguement everywhere you turn.
I honestly don't know what to say to you if you really thought this thread was a debate. I have gone back and re-read myself to see if I was just not paying attention or to see where you got the idea we were debating. You are off track.
It's okay if you are a person who likes to debate. You just need to realize that most of us are not here to start debates just for the sake of debating. When I come here it's to escape, not debate. When I post something like my post here about stress and school, it's just a statement. I didn't think it was fact. I didn't think anyone would care that much about it that they'd want to argue with me. It was just my perception based on MY experience. WHAT is there to debate about?
Now I've got to get ready for work. Go ahead and tear apart my post while I'm gone as I see you're online now.

To be quite literal, you did actually say stay out of the message boards of you didn't want to debate. I know that's not what you meant, but it is what you wrote, that is if you take it for face value as to what you actually wrote.

I'd say I have a life. Spend most time with my friends. On weekends I am usually at a show or LANing with 12 or so members of my local clan. Weekdays find me around different places or activities. My gaming is largly tied to multiplayer games and extremly good sp games. My collection is about 4 to 1 mutli to single.

Mouse Clicker, on the last board I was a permanent resident at, I commanded a fair deal of respect. The forum held "election" type deals at the end of each year, and I basically cleaned house. When I left there, it was in anger. I requested my post count cut to zero, and I vowed never to return. What made the sudden switch in my attitude you might ask?
It was basically because I was very weary of all the fighting. I was pretty much the only Nintendo fan on a board full of people who wouldn't have anything but a Playstation because the GameCube was too "kiddy". There were several people who would pick fights with me in particular over just about anything I said, whatever be the topic. Most notably though, it was an administrator who was the direct cause of my departure. He was always a raving Sony fanboy, who would constantly bash Nintendo at every turn just to piss me off. He wasn't really a desirable sort at all, flaming new members constantly, and basically forcing people he did not like off the boards through his attitude. One day he pushed me a little too far, and I publicly protested against him, and left. Of course it didn't do any good, but it did wonders for my sanity.
When I came out of there, I was sick to death of all the fighting. I wanted nothing more than to come to a board where I could just sit back and talk about video games without someone bursting in and saying "Animal Crossing is teh kiidie" or something like that. I came here because of the strict moderation, and the fact that it was a Nintendo board. Nobody here would flame me for choosing Nintendo over Sony. Of course, there are exceptions such as the person who was mysteriously born without a brain, and I have had some problems with a certain moderator drunk with his own power, but overall, the atmosphere is still good around here.
That's why I am here. It's not to have a lot of petty arguments.

Same here...If you want to argue about silly things such as this, then go to either Gamefaqs, the IGN boards, or N-philes...All three are absolutely horrible for their constant flames and pointless debates...

- Is Palooka a word? I've heard it from all these people, and I laugh everytime I hear it.
- Do any of you have pets? I got a dog, and a fat bunny the size of a cat.

Your saying you feed mice to the turtles?! The turtles wouldn't happen to be snappers btw?

Snapping turtles will eat anything...Ducklings, frogs, fish, etc...Though it's probably rare that a snapper will catch a mouse in the wild...
