Title: Club Nintendo Japan Details
Post by: WindyMan on October 24, 2003, 08:20:48 AM
Rack up the points and score some sweet Nintendo stuff... if you live in Japan.

Nintendo of Japan has opened up a website detailing how the new Club Nintendo program will work.  The system rewards gamers for purchasing Nintendo stuff, getting cooler Nintendo stuff in return.

The club works on a points system.  When games valued up to ¥5,000 (GBA prices) are purchased and registered, 20 club points are earned.  Games going up to ¥7,000 (GC prices) will net 30 points.  Double bonus points can also be earned  by getting a new game within the first month of release, and 1½ times bonus points for getting a new game within six months of release.  More bonus points can be earned by filling out various surveys from Nintendo.  It's not clear what kind of forms these will be, or how many points can be earned from them.  All points expire after two years from the time you first get them, probably to force people to spend them quickly.

There are a bunch of nifty items these points can be spent on.  The modest stuff ranges from a pack of e-Cards (80pts) and a new topper for the GameCube (150pts).  More exotic rewards include Blue-White Club Nintendo GC controller (500pts) and a Lime Green GBA SP (600pts).

Finally, based on how many points are racked up in a given year, a club member may hit gold or platinum status.  It appears that reaching these point levels will entitle these special members to exclusive perks, events and other such things.

Japanese gamers can start registering the products at the end of the month.  The American version of the Club is coming soon, by the end of this year or early next year.

I'm impressed. I thought for sure that anything remotely decent would be about a billion points and most of us who aren't rich and can't afford to buy every single Nintendo product twice would only be able to get ourselves a pack of stickers or something. But there are actually some really neat things on there that aren't that out of reach. Hopefully the American version will be just as generous.

*sigh* yea I guess this could be a good thing, I like the fact you can get points for filling out surveys, but I don't know. I guess it's not TOO evil since the higher end prizes are more of a aesthetics thing (eg. different colored gbaSP).

It'll be interesting how it will turn out once it stateside. Hopefully they'll be more liberal; I mean by saying if you include 2nd party(Metal Gear) and 3rd party exclusives (Killer 7) in the deal as well as first party. If not, its gonna suck royally: how many 1st party games does Nintendo have to offer this console generation? After Mario Kart, Animal Crossing 2, Wind Waker 2, Mario 128, and Pikmin 2 on the 'cube (Dunno about the GBA though) what else can Nintendo crank out?

The loyal fans such as myself have (most, if not all) Nintendo's hits for this generation (Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Animal Crossing, etc.). Methinks they'd offer the points system to these games after the fact for either new gamers or to the ones who don't have them yet.

What prizes will await us I wonder? It'd be interesting if all those shades of GBA's and 'Cubes in Japan were made as rewards here. Oh well, might as well keep dreaming...

We have had this type of thing in the uk for ages, its a load of rubbish, anything decent on there you need 1000's of points and they go really quick, they've given away wave-birds and GB-Players before, it was recently refurbished and included games, like ocarina of time bonus disc, (which everyone has) and the Metroid Prime Cube topper

Have a look at www.nintendo.co.uk , and click on star cataloguenintendo UK
