Title: Nintendo will come out 1st

let me holla at ya playa,
i was just wondering do you think its a good idea that Nintendo will come out 1st with their next gen. console me i always liked how they took their time with their next console espeically the gamecube. I feel like they really took time to make sure everything was just right (those who own a GC know what i mean).
plus GC sales has went through the roof both here in the u.s and overseas putting it in 2nd in this console race.
i dont see why they wanna rush i think they should just do like they always done and take their time.
what do you think?

of course coming out 1st would help and i think it will cause nintendo are agressive latley. if only it comes out with Too Human

Of course if people are ready for a new console.. they need to hype it lots too..

The ashes left from Sega's console business should be a warning to both Microsoft and Nintendo--releasing your maching much earlier than your competitors is a HUGE gamble if you don't have your act together. If Nintendo really wants their next console to do well, I doubt they would release their hardware no early than a month or two at least. Neither of the console makers can afford to let each other build a significant amount of hype over large period of time, otherwise the early bird could possbily find itself joining the Dreamcast.

I think it's a good idea for Nintendo to try and get its console out first. That way, after the inevitable delay, it will end up coming out around the same time if not just shortly after the other consoles.

If we're to assume that N5 comes out in late 2005, and knowing that Nintendo made some early dents in the N5 game development process so far, it's safe to assume they can have some solid titles ready in 2 year's time. They may not have actual hardware to work on, but surely they have an idea of what kind of performance to expect, so early work must be well on its way. Over 2 years of prep doesn't sound like a rush. 3rd parties will work at a disadvantage, but what else is new.
I think it's definitely a good idea to launch within a few months of the competition. They don't have to be first, just timely. Since it looks like the PS3 will be hitting in late 2005, it will be the holiday shopping season that'll be more important, not who beats who to market. Just get it to market before Black Friday, and you're golden.

Guys I don't believe that the Dreamcast did poorly because of it launching early. PS2 launched a year before and look how well its doing. I think it was mostly really bad marketing, after seeing Dreamcast commercials I remember I thought it was a cool commercial but it never made me want the system and I actually thought it looked kinda dumb after they SEGA name was said. That and the SEGA name wasn't to popular at after the Genesis.

The one difference that everyone forgets is Sega completely flopped with pre-cursor to the dreamcast, the Sega Saturn. So coming from one hideous system, into the Dreamcast era was almost impossible because the fans were burned, and frankly, never came back. Nintendo has no such problem. The GC is a success, and they're(NIN) on the rise, not decline. Releasing it earlier is a good idea to keep momentum going. Just dont release it too early, or people will wait to see what else is coming. 2 months prior to the PS3 or Xbox2 is sufficient.
Being number 1 would be great. But i still think a strong #2 is more likely. Noway there will be this big a gap next generation. But Sony has a built in huge fan base which will be hard to overcome. Its certainly possible, but not probable.

i think its best for it to come out first, thats why the PS2 was so successful cause it got a headstart of the Gamecube!

huh, you dont think the ENORMOUS PS1 userbase had anything to do with it? Or the massivwe third party support? Or the bomb that was the N64?

The massive third party support probably had more to do with the early release than anything else. But there is more than one reason, cubed's right.

PS2 is also the mainstream console, because in my school all i hear about is ppl just want sports games for that system and bla bla bla. Nintendo did a grand job with cube, Cube's software is top notch, little to no problems on cube comparing against PS2 or Xbox , Nintendo rekindled alot of third party support namely Namco. Nintendo also started some Konami support for the Cube by putting the trusty Silicon Knights incharge of MGS:TTS.

Also many PS2 didn't work right so which means PS2 really launched in 2001. If you think about it in a different angle.

i think they should aim for just a few weeks b4 PS3 or X2, that way the ppl who whv short tension spans will get it first....then we can hav the video game war thing all over again

No, that just means people were forced to pay huge repair costs, or buy a second PS2. Which probably bloated the PS2 sales numbers.
