Title: Official Dragonball Thread
Post by: kirby_killer_dedede on October 09, 2003, 01:22:18 PM
Well, as the popularity of this series is huge, I was surprised not to see a DB thread on the PGC boards.  So, I took the liberty of starting one :-P

First off, I've taken a recent obsession to GT.  I have very few episodes on my computer, and am looking as far as the eye can see to get more; help?  I don't want to do anything illegal, like P2P, or anything, nor do I want a site with porn and other sorts of crap.  I just want a clean site that has GT eps on it.  DBZGT.net closed, as well as Dragon Ball No Return.  They used to have eps, but they're no where to be seen.  So, does ANYONE have ANY idea where I can get GT episodes?  Thanks much!.

I doubt you'll find many sites these days willing to empty their wallets by having a ton of DBGT episodes sitting there.
As for the actual show.. Well, I did quite like DBZ when it started. But then when I realized over the half the episode consisted of the two chunky necked 'tards powering up and grinning, well.... I sorta... Backed off. I've managed to catch the majority of the series though, due to repeats in the morning.

It's like a soapy for kids. You know a big battle is coming up, but they make you sit though 20 or so pointless episodes of smiling and powering up before they get to it..

well i prefer dragon ball to dragon ball z...dragon ball z in my eyes seems so cheeply animated...i mean alot of those long drawn out battles seem to be just trying to keep the show on by keeping as little action in it as possible. Dragon Ball has way more action in each more episode. As well as humor. Also its fun to see how goku became the badass rather then him being the badass and like making the enemies seem so week.

It pays off every now and then, like when Goku and Vegeta start fighting and blowing up mountains and the entire world again Goku says "Darn him!"

DBZ is a disgrace to Anime IMO.DB was fun, but they pulled it out of stores here in Fnland, because of pedhofilia(sp?)

culture is different in Japan and they didnt mean some things in a perverted way..but then again they meant some other things in a perverted way.

So we got the uncensored version? Cool. They only published 4 of the books(I got all four ) And then they pulled them out, the publisher says they might come back, it's not like goverment banned the book, it's just that it had some many complaints(mostly from parents, they tried even ban Pokemon because they though Poke Rap is trying to brainwash them into buying Pokemon stuff, Damn those flower hat grannys!)

And it did have some of that stuff, Mutenroshi(or something like that) wanted to "touch" Bulma, and actually succeed. I though it's just funny, but some people... -____-

how old is bulma in DB? 16 or something isn't she? then i guess i can see why people got all angry and such, ive only seen about 3-4 episodes of DB, and i must say i enjoyed them more than DBZ, but then hordes of annoying little kids playing DBZ gets annoying too, part of the reason im kinda dislikeing it

its a bit like power rangers...

The Dragonball series are on the of best animes out there, the Gundam series tend to be better. It's more than just fighting pointlessly with bulky muscles and stuff. Instead, there's a reason of every fight, like vengance or threatening their home. Dragonball Z is by far the best, then probably Dragonball. Dragonball GT is an unworthy sequel to DB and DBZ. It had some good parts, but its mainly like they said before: pointless fighting. Although, Super 17 and the Bebi sagas were good, and they introduced SSJ4. But GT was waaaay too short.

Well, the thread doesn't seem like a total bust

Anyway, many of you (and like half of the anime-loving world) have said that GT is an unworthy sequel to DB and DBZ because it has less action.  This is how I see it:

Dragonball - The series that's action, humor, and engaging story got us hooked.

DBZ - Though it started well with Radeitsu (Radditz for you dubbies) and the Saiya-jin (Saiyan) thing, it seemed to lack story, and seemed to be repetative with people coming to kill people and then they kill people, etc.

DBGT - Though I agree that it didn't have as much action (then again, it was only 64 eps), it had something that I think DBZ lacked major: story.  I enjoyed the Bebi (Baby) saga, especially when Pan's sorrow turned Son Gokuh (Goku) in his Golden Oozaru (a golden abd more powerful form of the Saiyan monkey) to SSJ4 (Super Saiyan 4).

Oh well.  Personally, I think DBZ was the worst of the three, yet it was still one of my favorite animes ever.  Oh yeah, some major news!  Those of you who don't wanna go buy the dubbed VHS/DVD's won't have to wait long to see GT - on November 7, a new meaning of the phrase TGI Friday will be created!  Starting that day, and for the coming Fridays, Toonami will air GT.  I don't really care...I think Funimation butchers every series it tries to dub (except Yu Yu - they did that well).

So it is worth watching?
Laughably bad seems like a one thumbs up review as the other thumb didn't bother to take a vote.

How long is the movie?

I enjoyed the movie enough.  Wasn't nearly as horrible as I thought it was going to be.  I went opening night, my girlfriend was begging to go.

A good friend of mine watched this movie. I couldn't convince him from not watching it, so he did watch it, and he liked the damn movie *facepalm*.

As for the good news, I watched Crank High Voltage. Watch it if you liked/loved Crank.

What a bump.

I used to watch this back when I was a kid. I still have the VHS I recorded off the T.V. in HK. One tape contains 1 minute of actual fighting. On a 3 hour tape. Take a good guess what that story was about.

It's good when they fight, but the endless hours of posturing, flying around, squatting(with/out screaming) or just plain staring each other down bkgbrwibbhoinbamav.

How does the new movie do against Mortal Combat?

Was it the Freeza battle? that one wsa ridiculous with the amount of episodes used to cover a 60 seconds of actual fighting

BINGO! We have a winner!

It also didn't help that the entire planet looked the same no matter where they were. Or during that "fight"(A term I use euphemistically), Freeza became more and more effeminate. What worse is that standing up for hours on end became a valid tactic.

It was so bad that I was put off anime directly for 10 years thinking that was all that Japan had to offer outside Studio Gibuli, Akira and LOL moments from the Fist of North Star that I couldn't understand.

It wasn't until I watched Gundam SEED and having Sister working at a games store with anime did I rediscovered the joy. And this was a year or two after I had a 9 month stay in Japan.

Gawd! I can still remember those times, when I am watching those episodes... ;D There are different camera angles of their moves or shots...and repeats three or four times with one shot... really amazing for a kid like me back in those days...but not amazed anymore... hehe  :D
