Title: Viewtiful Joe
Post by: Smashman23 on October 08, 2003, 05:35:52 PM
I would like to say that Viewtiful Joe is an excelent game and all should go out and buy it in order to support the game. The gameplay is fun and addictive and they did a great job with the graphics. GREAT JOB CAPCOM
p.s. anyone know how to get past the big barrel that comes right after you get mach speed VFX?

Yes, yes, yes! I can't wait till I get my grubby mits on this game (launches next week here). It's so good to see a company go back to the old school gameplay, but with funky new improvements!

I second the motion. GET THIS GAME! It is hard though. I haven't gotten past the first level yet. You can save if lose all your lives but you start again at the beginning of the level—not fun. But this is an excellent game. As for your barrel dilemma, I don't know what you're talking about. Try kicking it. That always works. That and duct tape.

Launch it in the air (down+punch) and then Mach speed under it

I went to my local EB after work today to pick up my copy, there were only 6 left and someone ahead of me just baught one. The clerk was surprised at how many people came in and got the game the first day. I asked him about how many did they recieve but he just said a "ton"
Any who just like the demo I am loving this game to death, the voice acting is very well done and this game is just down right fun!!! Pluss its challenging, though I did start if off on Adult. This game is a must have for anyone and everyone. Buy it.

I was reading GameNow and it said that because of the lack of VJ sales in Japan, it would probably be ported to PS2. I thought it was selling pretty decently in Japan. Thoughts?

Actually the opposite is true...Because VJ has lived up to its expectations it won't be ported to the PS2

i really wish that it would get big on GCN and stay there.. it could be a system seller (with the Cube at 99.99, I would def. buy one for V.Joe and Mario Kart [but i already have a cube..so..])

Didn't the developer say in an interview that if it sold well, it would probably be ported to other systems, and it would be getting a sequel if it did well?
I am pretty sure we will be seeing a sequel. If it's not on GameCube first, I will be very upset. Us GameCube owners went out and put down our money to show our support. We need a reward.
And yes, I bought the game today. The dude at Wal-Mart said that he had JUST put the game on the shelf 2 minutes before I asked for it. I smiled and told him that I was sure that I was the first of many.

They (being people who were involved with making VJ, maybe producers or whatnot) also said the game would be too difficult to port because the game was made specifically for the GCN so it would be too much of a problem to port it to the PS2, so read it as "don't hold your breath"

i was supposed to mention that in my last post. i dont think that the ps2 is as flexible expeccialy when it comes to cel shading to that deggree

VJ is the type of game made for the Nintendo system, I doubt it will sell the same on X-box because of its image.

I got viewtiful joe today and i wizzed passed the 1st level and an now stuck in the hotel. The one problem with this game is theres not enough save points. Some puzzles can be a bit difficult to but its a really fun game, a good pick for a top5 game of the year. Does any body know how to get passed the part in the hotel where your in the 3rd floor and the bombs keep coming at ya. I took out all the abd guys and got the key but im stuck there.

uppercut a bomb to the trap door

Just got Viewtiful Joe today in the mail, along with the bobblehead. Surprisingly the bobblehead wasn't plastic, but sort of ceramic, and was hand-painted. Anyway, this game is one of my favorites on GCN. The VFX powers are awesome and very well-used. In fact, I like the puzzles about as much as the core beat-em-up gameplay.
Pikkcuber: see the different colored tile on the ceiling? When the bomb is being thrown at you and is still in the air, kick/punch it up (you might have to use slow) and slow the explosion so it knocks out the tile.

I seriously love this game. I NEED a V-Watch. Why couldn't they give those away for their pre-sale gimmo. I wish I could slow down time and punch and/or dodge bullets. Then I could be in the Matrix Restitution Part IV in which Berneo BURNINATES ALL TEH AGENTS W/THEIR WORTHLESS LITTLE HANDGUNS! Hurray for violence!

im getting it first day in AUS. why do people say i have no money? i mean its not that hard to earn some money, its 40 US dollars, THATS CHEAP!!!
i thought this game came out on the 30 of oct and didnt have any money saved up, then i find out its been pushed 2 weeks forward . i was in trouble , i needed money. i cleaned the cars and mowed the lawn and some other stuff and now im only 40 sollars off. its not that hard. mind you my family have the biggest house in Essendon and the highest selling house in Keilor.
anyway when you get money then you will be blessed.

Viewtiful Joe ROCKS. I got the game about noon on launch day, and I sadly had already beaten in on Adults(Note: PLAY KIDS FIRST, adults is OBSCENELY HARD. I wish i didn't try it.) and now I'm going through it again with the second character you unlock (and it hints towards more!)
The game only gets better, a few levels, (such as 5) were aggrivating with the lack of savepoints, but once you understand how the game works, you can easily get past them.
the bosses are BRUTALLY hard, perhaps its just because I played on adults, but they were definately the most difficult part of the game, certain bosses (level 6 *cringes*) took me HOURS to beat while other ones (level 4/5/7 mainly) were some of the best boss fights I've ever fought against in a game. The game also looks great all the way through the end, and some of the puzzles make you think... but not too much.
Definately a must buy, espicially at only 40$

Hey, Syl, did you catch the Mega Man reference that Hulk Davidson made? I think he was episode 3's boss. Speaking of him. In that last room before you get to his dining room, you have to solve a puzzle (no spoilers here) and I could NOT figure it out for like 15 minutes during which time Mr. Davidson decided to sing the same 2 lines over and over and over again. "DAvidson in the hooouuse!..." I forget the rest but it was SO annoying. Although I supposed I did enjoy smiting his ruin across the floor all the more because of it...

I have played a couple of hours into this game, bought it yesterday, and I must say; its one of the best games I have played in a long while. If it werent for Zelda WW, I would say Viewtiful Joe would be Cubes game of the year. Max Paynes bullet time has nothing on Joe, its crazy fun slowing it down, then changing to mach speed. Its challenging too, which is nice. I am glad to see this game is selling well, cause its awsome.

mjbd, I agree one billion percent. Anyways, I finally beat kids mode () and I have a few questions. I don't think there will be any spoilers but ya never know. Ok, first of all, when it cycled through all the enemies' and characters' names I was surprised to find out that Joe's robot/mech thingy was called "Six Majin". I thought he'd been saying "Six Machine" (and I think that was the name of his little personal transport thing). So is majin Japanese for machine? Question two: Am I the only one that noticed in the end credits whent they showed the movie poster for the level "The Midnight Thunderboy" it used the EXACT same font as Devil May Cry? Is there any corrolation between Alastor and DMC? Perhaps a hint at...nevermind. I won't even say it. Ok. That's all the questions I can think of for now. Later.

I just got the game and am on the third episode. It's definitely old school and I love it. This game reaffirms my long held belief that 2d games need to make a come back. Hopefully it will prove that guy wrong who kept saying 2d games have no audience in today's game market. I'm playing on Adults and there is good level of difficulty which is nice to see. The part where you're in the little ship rules.
Title: RE: Viewtiful Joe
Post by: Bloodworth on October 18, 2003, 01:23:40 PM
That's odd about Six Machine. I'm pretty sure it was spelled right in the Japanese version. As for the Midnight Thunderboy, I think others have also mentioned Devil May Cry references, so I think it's one of those inside things for fans to appreciate.
Title: RE: Viewtiful Joe
Post by: Syl on October 18, 2003, 02:19:08 PM
Alastar has *VERY* much in common with devil may cry, when you unlock him, he doesn't transform by his self, you have to hit "Z"for the "devil trigger" so that he transforms into Stylish Alastar, his sword is named Alastor, and he also has quite a few moves that resemble dante from devil may cry ...but you have to beat V-Rated to unlock him
Title: RE: Viewtiful Joe
Post by: Berny on October 18, 2003, 02:58:49 PM
Why would they put in an inside joke for fans who may not even own a PS2? (such as myself) Hulk Davidson's Mega Man reference is cool because Mega Man's been on every Nintendo system. (Virtual Boy? I dunno) And just to clear things up, Joe's little hover thing with the blaster and missles is called the Six Machine, and his large mech suit is Six Majin. I didn't notice at first but I started anew (ADULTS! AGH!), and at the beginning Joe says "Oh my gosh! Its Six Majin!" It's pronounced differently but Enlish doesn't have one letter that makes that sound, but it does sound like the French j.

I noticed that in IGN's review of V.J. they said that the game never takes a framerate loss, but I could have sworn that in the 3rd level boss, it was dropping hear and there. Maybe it was just the camera, but it looked like the framerate was dropping a bit. Anyone else take notice?
Title: RE: Viewtiful Joe

The third level is the Shark guy right? No I didn't catch it. The only time it ever slowed for me is when I hit the L button.

Post by: MysticGohan24 on October 19, 2003, 01:43:12 PM
Majin doesn't mean Machine in japanese, I believe it means evil * like Majin buu or Yusuke * It's possible there's more than one meanning but I'm pretty sure it's a referrence to evil. * Could be spelled Majinn *

mjbd, you saw correctly. The framerate does slightly dip in strange spots during the clone fight. Kinda like the small framerate dip whenever Samus drops a power bomb close to the screen.
Title: RE: Viewtiful Joe
Post by: Berny on October 19, 2003, 05:08:02 PM
Wow. I didn't notice EITHER of those frame droppers. I guess I'm to enveloped in the game to care. I did notice frame rate drops in SMS. Doesn't really bother me. It catches up in a matter of seconds.
Title: RE:Viewtiful Joe
Post by: mjbd on October 20, 2003, 03:33:48 PM
Even in that stage, when it dips, it only last for about a second. I will admit to being a framerate whore though, so go figure that I noticed it.

Try punching and kicking baddies into the helicopter (dodge, then hit 'em with slomo).
