Title: Zelda Collector's Edition details!
Post by: mouse_clicker on October 06, 2003, 06:13:51 PM
IGNCube has reported that the rumored Legend of Zelda bonus disc is now a reality. As we all expected, it will include Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda, Adventures of Link, and a demo of Wind Waker- no word on that documentary yet. It' will most likely be included with new purchases of a Gamecube but hopefully Nintendo will offer it through other methods as well, considering some 10 million people already have a Gamecube. As someone in another thread ponited out, with the release of this disc, every Nintendo made Zelda game ever released will be playable on the Gamecube with a little help from the Gameboy Player. It's a great time to be a Zelda fan.
BTW, sorry if PGC's already reported this- I couldn't load the main page so I don't know if they have or haven't yet (if they haven't, it should be up soon).

I love how people call it a rumor when us and Game Informer report it, and fact when it's IGN. We tend to have the better track record, I think.

Don't feel too bad. It's just that IGN had proof in the form of pics. Also I don't think Game Informer has a great track record does it? Since they were the source of this most everyone felt it was bull. I knew it came from Billy though so I believed it and seeing you guys posting about it just confirmed it more for me.
Now just find out if we can get this thing without having to buy some bundle crap.
EDIT: One question I have is Majora's Mask will have higher resolution a la the Ocarina Bonus Disk right? After playing the Bonus Disk and then playing the N64 version I realized just how bad the resolution was. No wonder I suffered from almost constant migraines the entire period I played my N64.

BUT WHERE ARE THE CD-i GAMES? I AM CRUSHED. I'm looking foward to this disc *SHOCK*, and I have no doubts Nintendo will release it by itself. Either that, or we can count on trusty EB selling it seperatly for insane amount of money ++!

If this bonus disc will also be a preorder bonus for Four Swords I will officially declare Four Swords' release date as the best gaming day ever

Nintendo probably won't sell this disk stand alone, look at what they did with the last Zelda Bonus and the Demo Disk. Nintendo doesn't seem to care about us who already own a GCN, only those that don't. Nintendo needs to pull the head from the ass and realize that this should be made available to everyone, and not just those who may buy a GCN. Sorry, but if I didn't have a GCN, this bonus disk of games that for some are almost 20 years old will not make me go buy a GCN. I hope this bonus is available for Four Swords as well, because I would rather spend 50 dollars as opposed to 100. And I don't even want Four Swords.

Ha. I was planning on buying a platinum Gamecube this winter anyway. Take that Nintendo! BWA HA HA HA HAAA!!!!!!! :cough: Everyone else, don't start griping! We all know that Target and Best Buy will be selling these babies separately for ten bucks or so.

Well if you didn't preorder WW then you must not have wanted the bonus disc that bad
And the demo disc was sold alone in some stores, so it wasn't that hard to find one...

Let's see here. Nintendo has two options. They can either:
a. Release the disc seperately so that all Cube owners can enjoy it, keeping in mind that because of Wind Waker most Zelda fans already own Cubes.
or
b. Release it only with new consoles and piss off their entire fanbase.
Title: RE: Zelda Collector's Edition details!
Post by: Jdub03 on October 07, 2003, 08:31:25 AM
I definitely want them to release it alone, but think of it this way. If you have a gamecube and have not gotten rid of it by now, nintendo knows your not going to get rid of it . This bonus disk is a way for them to entice those who dont have a cube to get one. They have us already. We are trapped. Their mission is to capture the rest of those stubborn people out there.
As seen by nintendo's past business strategies, they dont mind pissing us off, because thats all we can do is be pissed off.

I too have never played Zelda 1 or 2, and haven't finished Majoras Mask (becuase of first boerdom, then frustration, then a crappy broken controller). This disk is awesome.
Yes, the bonus disk was selling seperately, but at $40. I won't spend that much on a few demos.

if nintendo doesnt make this available to the existing gamecube user base, i will be extremely pissed off. seeing how nintendo wont give out demo discs unless your willing to preorder a game, i dont doubt that the disc wont be for sale as a stand alone.
hopefully retailers will sell the disc seperately like they did with the zelda disc and the previous demo disc.

Why doesn't someone email Nintedo and ask if they will sell this seperatly or if it is indeed true?

"As seen by nintendo's past business strategies, they dont mind pissing us off, because thats all we can do is be pissed off."
No we can NOT buy their next console. Pissing off your fanbase is suicide. That's what happened to Sega.
"Why doesn't someone email Nintedo and ask if they will sell this seperatly or if it is indeed true?"
There's not really any point in writing an email now because Nintendo hasn't really officially announced this themselves so anyone you email will just give you a bullsh!t "we don't comment on rumours" letter. We have to wait until they release an actual press release. I will however right an email the very same day if they announce it for new consoles only. Though I also wrote a letter about the demo disc and was completely ignored.

I had forgotten about this but is the Zelda Documentary thing going to be on this like Game Informer and PGC originally reported? IGN is saying that only the games and a Wind Waker demo will be on it. I hope there will be a documentary because it would be really great if Miyamoto and Aonuma were interviewed and gave the official time line for the series and stuff like that.
By the way I really don't understand why people keep saying they want the CD-i Zeldas on this thing. They were not made by Nintendo and from all reports were absolutely horrible. I'm sure Nintendo would like those games to be forgotten much like George Lucas wants the Star Wars Holiday Special to be forgotten.

I never played thoughs games but from what I saw on the television show ICONS on G4 they were terrible. They were pretty funy actualy. I remember Link talking to Zelda in a cut scene saying "how about a kiss" in this really crapy way. and I think she said something like "please" and pushed him away. One other thing I thought was funny was when Link said "im so hungry I could eat an octorock." One game was a terrible looking and sounding side scroller and the other was an over head piece of garbage staring Zelda as the playable character. But I realy really want these games.
Any who I am very happy this Zelda collection is coming out. I am loving all these classic collection games. First Sonic, soon Mega Man, and now this.

I want the CD-I games just for the sake of saying that I have played them, or own them. They must be worth a pretty penny because they are not common, regardless of the quality.
Quote [off-topic alert]Speaking of collections, anybody know if that Midway classic gaming collection disc is still erm, being made? PGC had some news on it MONTHS back, and there hasn't been another word since.[/off-topic alert]
Infernal: There is a game called Midway Arcade Treasures that comes out for all three systems. Xbox and PS2 version come out and November 17, while the GCN version isn't slated to come out until 12/1. Doesn't make any sense, unless Midway is looking for an excuse to say the GCN version of their games, even really old games, doesn't sell. The game is listed for a three systems with a price of 19.99. This of course if from EBgames.com and is for North America.

www.gamecubeheaven.tk is reporting that the zelda compilation will indeed be sold seperately, at least so far through Nintendo's online store. Whatever, as long as it is available. If this is true, then it will probably be sold at other stores as well.

I'm really worried that Target and Best Buy won't be able to sell them seperately because nintendo will actual put them within the packaging for the GCN... =/ Its not like the other ones they sell where they get a box of them and they are supposed to hand them out with purchase...i dunno.
Title: RE: Zelda Collector's Edition details!
Post by: Ian Sane on October 10, 2003, 11:12:26 AM
The online route wouldn't be too bad provided that they make then available outside the US. Right now in order for Canadians to order anything from Nintendo they have to do it by phone.
I'm really worried about this. Nintendo has just been insanely clueness lately and they might not even think that existing Cube owners are even interested in this disc. They certainly didn't think we would care about the original demo disc. They never released that seperately despite numerous complaints and hard evidence (ie: sales at Best Buy) that existing owners wanted to buy it.

I'm sorry, but I was just reading through this old thread when I came across this:
Quote Originally posted by: Bloodworth I love how people call it a rumor when us and Game Informer report it, and fact when it's IGN. We tend to have the better track record, I think.
A better track record?! Ha! I don't think so my friend. Ign does indeed suck, but their rumors and news are far more reliable than both PGC and "Lame Informer." (The most disreputable magazine in the world other than "PLAY" and "The World Weekly News.") I actually could not belive that you would associate yourself w/ such a shoddy magazine.
If you've got a better track record, prove it. The burden of proof, as they say, is in your hands.
By the way, my comments are NOT intended to flame or bash anyone on PGC or PGC itself. It's a good site, it's just that this boastful statement does not hold water in my opinon.
(Yuji thinks to himself, "bloodworth's profile says he's 23. So when the NES came out he was still in diapers.)

The only rumors that turn out true on IGN are those stolen from someone else...
and I think being 6 years old is a little too old for diapers...It's funny how you've hidden your profile, so YOUR age remains a mystery...

Wow! What an ass hole. First of all Bloodworth was not directly associating PGC with Game Informer. The guy that got the scoop at Game Informer is Billy Berghammer who was the head at PGC until he moved on to work at Game Informer. In other words Bloodworth was actually associating PGC with Billy Berghammer. Also PGC does have a great track record. In fact I don't recall a rumor that they've posted that ended up being wrong and I've been coming here for around 3 years now.

I don't know what the hell that has to do with anything but if that age is up to date then he would have been born around 1980. Seeing as how the NES was released in the US in 1985 I should hope he would be out of diapers by then considering he would be 5. Unless of course you are basing that whole diaper bit on your own experience with potty training.

chuckles at the reaction my comments have received.
..anyway, the "diapers" comment was irony. look into it. i know he was 5 or 6. it's not an insult, its a joke. there's this thing called "busting someones balls" (ever see Goodfellas?)
the way i read it, he was associating himself with G.I., not a good thing to do. it's a rag. but maybe it's just the way i read it. still, his words were boastfull, and as they say, put your money where your mouth is...
after searching PGC's "rumors" section. i can say that the only "rumor" they were right about was the "backlit" GBA. of course a ten year old could have seen that one coming...
....one last thing, yes, I am an @**hole. thank you for noticing....

Actually, Ninty didn't make the games...Phillips did...And Ninty had to let them make them because they agreed to let them do it as part of their partnership. When Ninty backed out, Phillips got mad and threatened with a lawsuit if Ninty didn't fulfill their part of the deal, and thus the travesties that were the Zelda CD-i games were released...
(Here's an example of irony: Over a period of 10 years, you buy lottery tickets every week. You finally realize how stupid the lottery is, and you decide to trash your latest ticket. That night you find out that you had the winning ticket.)

Your definition didn't prove your point at all, you weren't trying to express teh exact opposite, you were in fact trying to express that he was very young when the nes came out which is exactly what you tried to say, in a very non ironic sort of way.

Yuji: Hardly- I cannot recall anything Planet Gamecube has reported that didn't end up turning into fact. Johnny even said that they don't do a Louie's Rumor Report until they have the "rumors" confirmed- I can think of several accounts IGN has jumped the gun on something that wasn't true.
Also, Bloodworth, I hope you didn't think I was discrediting PGC by saying the disc was rumored. I simply meant that there was no confirmation from Nintendo up until now and I happened to see it on IGN first.
