Title: The number of console owners just shrinked!

From this day on, PS2 owners can no longer claim they own a "next-gen" console.
To get reduced tariffs, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe proved to the court that the PS2 is in fact a personal computer, not a game console. Important arguments were Linux and the progammability of the PS2.
Guess what that means? Right, the Nintendo Gamecube is now the number one selling "next-gen" console!
From now on, the PS2 has to stack up to PC sales numbers, not console numbers. I'd like to see the sales numbers of x86s in comparison...
Oh, and poor Apple, they're now in third place. Well, but who said the computer wars are over yet?

Oh, and umm.....isn't it "shrunk" instead of "shrinked"?  Not sure, though.  I have a tendancy to make up my own words, like "dranken" and "meshage".

Hehe, I wonder if anybody will take advantage of this? Because of this techincality it would make for some good marketing ammo to use against Sony.

I hope that 25 million was worth it for you guys in Sony.

hahaha well that is quite interesting to say the least, quick run out and tell everyone that the gamecube is the highest selling console, only to have htem ... walk away and not care... VICTORY, VICTORY FOR ZIM!

The XB isn't programmable unmodified, therefore it still is a games console.

KDR_11k-  I didn't really care.  English not being your primary language is a good enough reason for you to make a mistake.  Heck,  I make many more grammatical errors than you do, and English is my first language.  I was just pointing it out.

I say "boughten" a lot, and I'm a native English speaker in honors English classes. It happens to the best of us.

I myself am a frequent user of the word "funner" which isn't a word for some stupid reason.  Instead you're supposed to say "more fun".  That has always pissed me off because there isn't really a grammarically correct one word equivalent to "funner" so really it's a word that should exist but for some reason doesn't.  "Shrinked" may not be a word but at least it has a one word equivalent in "shrunk".

Oh and that whole Sony computer thing is stupid.  Every game forum in the world now has some dumb "Gamecube is now number one" post in it.  Thanks a lot Sony.  We really needed another stupid "fact" for fanboys to use in dumb arguements about whose dic... console is better.

Well you could always say shrank instead of shrunk.  my brother had a real funny one (had to be there) instead of flew away, he said flied away and well in our house someone is going to say something if you make such an obvious mistake like that.

My biggest complain is, I say a word and someone says its not a real word and I'm like, I just said it didn't I, so it must be a real word.

History shows that Judges are incredibly stupid when it comes to technology.  They simply don't understand it.


Anyway, if the PS2 is now a computer under European law, then that Legal Precedent/Decision also applies to the Cube and X-box.

Nope, neither the Cube nor the Box are programmable, which is a requirement for a "personal computer".

BOX: It is absolutely, positively programmable.  Just look at the emulation scene running old NES, S-NES, and N64/PS1 games on the Box.

CUBE: It too is programmable... it too is running emulation programs.



So, both the Box/Cube can be considered computers according to this European Judge's ruling.

no, because they arn't supported by the console makers like linux is supported by sony, so your logic is flawed, those things are illegal, which seperates xbawx/gcn from ps2

I was under the impression Sony always wanted it to be known as a computer in Europe to cut down on tax. I think that's the only reason why the put a copy of BASIC on the bundled demo disc. Hell, I had alot of fun with it, too. I MADE INFERNAL PONG!

(It was pong, but the ball didn't react to the paddles, and then it froze up). I should of sold it to Microsoft. Oh my God, L337 DEATH PONG!
