TaQ released an impossible-to-find album by the name of Bounce :: Connected. It's two discs and features live versions of his Beatmania songs (like DXY!, Schlagwerk, and Electro Tuned) and even covers of songs from other members of the Bemani crew; hot stuff like Summer Vacation and even PARANOiA.
Also, Guilty Gear XX Sound Alive is awesome.

Do you have this disc yourself? Any disc with PARANOiA on it is deemed good by all.
There's way too many tracks for me to list in my favorites list, although having recently bought F-Zero, i'd say the Firefield BGM is my favorite. i've had the MP3 for a while, but listening to it direct from the game is even better. The opening bass when played through my home theater system made my heart skip a beat. Last time i experienced that whas when i broke the sound barrier in Extreme G 3.

Alright, just the favorites here. This list is pretty freaking extensive, so I suppose I should be prepared to sit here a while. I compiled this list once before, but unfortunately I cannot find it anymore. Since I do come across a need for this list from time to time, it's a good thing to have. I am more or less going to go in order of release date. In the event of a theme or song spanning across multiple games, I will pick the version I like the best. In case of discrepancies in song names, I will pick the OST name, barring that, the Japanese name, or the one that I feel fits the song the best, or simply the version that I like the best. Some games I left off simply because I have forgotten the track names or what music I liked in the game, but that DOES NOT mean I like them any less. And nice subliminal message PIAC.
I will add more to this list as time and the server allows

Currently listening to: Soul Calibur II OST

Favorite SC2 tracks: Unwavering Resolve Raise Thy Sword (perfect for my Nightmare brand reign of terror in the arcade) No Turning Back Brave Sword, Braver Soul (this sounds like it was based on Mitsurugi's ending theme in Soul Blade?)
Favorite SC1 tracks: Eye to Eye, Blade to Blade No Remorse, No Pain Going to Where the Wind Blows

Actually, I think that my favorite composers are Koji Kondo, Yasunori Mitsuda, Akira Yamaoka, Yoko Shimomura, and Nobuo Eumatsu, in that order.
But the problem is that the majority of those composers work/worked for Squaresoft at some point or another.

Perhaps it's because i simply don't own Soul Calibur II, but i've listened extensively to the soundtrack and find it lacking compared to Soul Calibur. i own the Soul Calibur OST and listen to it from time to time. The themes for Maxi, Taki, Xianhua (hey, it's catchy!), and the beautiful intro are my faves on that disc.
The Khan Super Session CD (Soul Edge/Blade remix tracks) is beautiful. Hagakure, Yellow Sands, and Another Castaway are my favorites. One of these days i've got to pick up the disc. i've had the MP3s for years and for some reason it's one of the few game soundtracks i haven't actually bought.
Also, a plug for the Strider OST. It's on an 8cm CD that comes with the Strider 2 OST. For those of you who've played it (arcade or Genesis versions), you know how much it rocks.

FFX, no question about it, has my favourite video game soundtrack.

FFX just seems largely uninspired to me. (Which explains the low number of FFX songs in my list)
Btw, my favorite soundtracks overall would be sort of a toss up between Xenogears and Parasite Eve. Both of them were fantastic.

- Song of Storms(OoT) - Gerudo Village(OoT) - Phenandra Drifts (MP) - Underwater Theme (MP) - Talon Overworld, part 2 (MP) - Title and Credits (MP) - Dragon Roost (WW) - Castle Remix from SNES (WW) - Fire Emblem (SSBM) - Fountain of Dreams (SSBM) - Dr. Stewart's Theme (F-Zero GX) - Cat dude's theme who's name I can't remember (F-Zero GX) - Twisty cylinder fire level in F-Zero GX (guess) - Mute City moosic (F-Zero GX)
Offhand, that's all I can think of. That's all GC or gone to GC games (OoT bonus disc), and I don't feel like remembering any others.

Quote Parasite Eve and Xenogears just seemed uninspired to ME!
i don't see how considering both soundtracks are major departures from the classic Square/Nobuo Uematsu stuff. Parasite Eve mixes haunting opera singing with some an amazingly reverberous piano, rock guitar, and some electronic beats. i can't quite explain Xenogears's music. Yasunori has more "worldly" sound than Nobuo, and you can hear celtic and mideastern influences. Even the standard orchestrated themes sound more grand and bold than Uematsu's work.
Grey Ninja, have you heard the PE Remixes? There's a remix of Somnia Memorias that's in English. i'm not sure if the lyrics are translated from the version in-game, but it's beautiful.
i also need to add the Panzer Dragoon Saga OST. Saori Kobayashi and Mariko Nanba are musical goddesses. If you've never heard the end theme to the game ("Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu"), consider yourself deprived.

POKEMON SAPPHIRE - END CREDITS, Sootopolis City, errr... that island with the sand...
Zelda the Wind Waker - End Credits
Conkers Bad Fur Day - Great Mighty Poo
Super Mario 64 - The first water level... sunken ship or something? Forget what its called
Super Mario Sunshine - Bianco Hills, Noki Bay
Metroid Prime - Phendrana Drifts
Pretty much everything from Starfox Adventures, SSBM and Majoras Mask... probably heaps more that im forgetting though.
Edit: Holy crap how could i forget Sonic!
Sonic Mega Collection - EVERYTHING - So many great sonic songs. Icecap zone, hydrocity zone, green hill zone, lava reef zone... and heaps heaps more, all sound freaking awesome. Sonic Mega Collection has my favourite soundtrack ever (instead of having to decide between the sonic games, i just say Sonic Mega Collection has the best soundtrack ever )

Anything by Rareware. They had awesome talent with the Super NES sound chip. Donkey Kong Country/Two and some of the best music ever.
DKC/2 - Ice Cave Chant, Mine Cart Madness, Credits Concerto, Main Theme, Enchanted Woods, Brambles (I'm going to upload this to my site pretty soon, it's FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC), Aquatic Ambience... And lots more. I quite liked their work on Perfect Dark and Blast Corps for the Nintendo 64, too. Oh yeah, and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for the SNES (Level 8, the Dark Castle's BGM was surprisingly epic for a beat em' up)
Hmmm, I'm also a sucker for anything from a Sonic the Hedgehog game. Very catchy stuff. Sonic 2's music is great stuff. Although I hated the sad rap songs that were found in Sonic Adventure 2.
At the moment I'm still enjoying the music found in Iridion II for the GameBoy Advance. Shin'en did a fantastic job with it. I've never heard the GBA pull off music this good before. Plus some of the their staff worked on the original Sonic the Hedgehog music, so I'm thinking that's a big reason why I found myself enjoying it so much. Hmmm, I've found myself getting into the FFX-2 OST lately, too. I don't intend on playing the game (at all), but some of the music is quite emotional. Track one, Eternity is an awesome bit of work. Although the mood it sets it quickly destroyed by the pretty terrible J-Pop track that bursts in right after it... Booo.
And at the moment, Contra: SS and Guilty Gear X is feeding my craving for heavy metal. See? I ramble alot.

I really don't know. I don't find myself listening to the music that much in games unless it's really good. And the Xenogears soundtrack is really good (albeit repetetive). So I listen to often. Alot.
I mostly listen to stuff on OC Remix. I like alot of the stuff from any Zelda, Mario, or Final Fantasy. I'm listening to Paperboy Evening Edition Jam right now, and up next is Xenogear's 7 years broken which strangely reminds me of Grey Ninja (don't ask cause even I don't know). I also like Mario 64's Sunken Suite and F-Zero Blue Vacation. Those are just a few of my favorites.

I'm strangely flattered that another dude thinks of me while listening to a love song. I should really stop representing myself with a female character. Btw, do you have PearlSong KnowsNothing? I think it's better than Sunken Suite myself.
Bill... thanks for all the songs. I can't really say that Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu is among my favorite songs, but I appreciate the thought. I still think the OC Remix for Panzer Dragoon is quite good though.

I didn't mean what I said to even remotely resemble what some of you may be thinking in any way, shape, form, or chance in hell. It's just, for some reason, that's how I pictured you would sing (don't sing that to me, please) if you happened to have a good voice.
I'll shut up now.
And no, I don't have PearlSong. I'll have to take a listen.
EDIT: Just listened to it. It's pretty good, but I like Sunken Suite better becuase of the powerful ending with all the drums and the really cool cymbal/chime things. But overall, that's defidently my favorite Mario theme, and maybe even of all time. I love that song.

What's that you ask? Why, it's a website! Some Japanese dude has done BA-JILLIONS of metal remixes of video game tunes. You can find them in the MP3 section! Shock!
Only problem is, all the track names are in Japanese.. And well, he remixes alot of obscure Japanese RPGs. However, I've stumbled upon a remix he did of the classic Super Mario Bros. tune.

Heh, I am so not used to listening to Gunstar Hero's music the way it was meant to be heard. Owning the PAL version, I've gotten quite used to the slower music. Thanks for the song, though! One of my favorite from the game.
I'll upload a new VG tune to my site this arvo. Dunno what, though. *MYSTERY*!

Sorry dude. The SPCs are just way too easy to get. I already have all the stuff there that I want in SPC format, so I am happy.

Don't have AIM on this comp, and I don't feel like dl it right now...Just tell me what you want and I'll start putting them up one by one(yeah, tiny sites like Angelfire suck)
Right now the mp3 is the best boss music from SMRPG...Next up: A track from the Tales of Phantasia soundtrack...probably boss music
Actually, I lied...It's the first level from Ninja Gaiden...Catchy, no?

It's easy enough to convert SPCs to MP3, but why would you want to?
Title: RE: Favorite gaming tracks...
Post by: Infernal Monkey on October 12, 2003, 11:10:04 PM
So you could whack them onto a CD if you lack teh good PC speakers, of course.
Title: RE: Favorite gaming tracks...
Post by: Grey Ninja on October 12, 2003, 11:14:53 PM
Fair enough. The first step in any audio format conversion is to use the disk writer plugin of winamp to convert your sound file to a nice WAV file. From there, you use the MP3 encoder of your choice to make the MP3. Or better yet, you just burn the WAV file to a CD. Voila. A perfect OST quality Audio CD.

I was on the lookout for the GX pilot profile tracks and found this page. Thought you all may want to take a gander.
They are hosted on FilePlanet which is a bit of a bugger. But hey, they all there. There is a total of 84 tracks including the AX pilot theme songs. I love Jodi Summers and Dr. Stuart's themes. Now I can make a sweet ass cd with them.

Hay guys, maybe you wanna hear the new songs they snuck into DDR Extreme JPN/PS2! I got to play it, it's pretty hot. Only been out a few days...
(BTW guys, when I post up songs, they're usually only up for a few days)

Whew, took a few hours to get all those 84 tracks, but it was well worth it. There are some other pretty good pilot profiles. I haven't unlocked all of the pilots yet. Also the tracks from Diamond and AX which I may never unlock were good to hear as well.

As for converting the SPCs...I'm absolutely in love with ToP's soundtrack, so I did that first. I was bored so I converted everything, and I'm just being nice and giving them out to those who don't know how

I have any song from the OoT OST and any song from the SSBM concert if you guys want 'em. I can upload them to my site one at a time, I guess.
The only thing is, whenever I upload to my site, it never seems to work. I have an Agelfire account. How would I get them to play it quicktime?
Title: RE:Favorite gaming tracks...
Post by: Bill Aurion on October 15, 2003, 02:35:06 PM
Don't upload them to angelfire anymore if you want your account...My account got taken off for "making a site primarily for the use of file-sharing," which is absolute garbage...Meh

Then what should I do? Just get an account at geocities or something? Or would they ban me, too?
I don't know if I can email them to people, seeing as hotmail only allows a certain limit (small limit) to attachments. The only way I could change that would be paying $20/month, and I sure aint doing that.

I have had my Geocities account for YEARS. I think since grade 10... which was a long time ago. My avatars are always hosted there, and I haven't been banned yet.

My list:
Donkey Konga Theme Song (Donkey Konga) Live and Learn (Sonic Adventure 2) Escape from the City (Sonic Adventure 2) Metal Harbor (Sonic Adventure 2) Open your Heart (Sonic Adventure) Simple and Clean (Kingdom Hearts) Sonic Heroes Theme Song (Sonic Heroes)
And many more :-) Personally, I think Jun Senoue (the lead composer of music for the Sonic Adventure series) is ingenious.
"Rollin' around at the speed of sound...got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow! Can't stick around have to...." God, that's a cool song!

Massive bump attack.
Maxis is offering the full soundtracks to Sim City 3 and Sim City 4 Rush Hour on their website (MP3 format). Pretty damn nice of them. They've even got scans of the covers.

Most of my favourite gaming tracks are from the SNES. To keep the list short I'll use a max of three songs per game but if I least three tracks assume I love nearly the whole soundtrack.
NES: Mega Man 2 - Top Man stage theme (I think it's Top Man at least)
SNES: Battletoads/Double Dragon - Opening theme Chrono Trigger - Opening theme Chrono Trigger - Medieval times period Donkey Kong Country - Aquatic Ambiance Donkey Kong Country - Fear Factory Donkey Kong Country - Slipslide Ride Donkey Kong Country 2 - Brambles Donkey Kong Country 2 - Disco Train (my brother and I actually made up a dance for this) Donkey Kong Country 2 - Hot Head Hop Donkey Kong Country 3 - Factory level music Donkey Kong Country 3 - Rock climbing music Donkey Kong Country 3 - Wrinkly 64 (the castle theme in Super Mario 64 but it sounds MUCH better in this game) F-Zero - Mute City Final Fantasy VI - Terra's theme/opening music Legend of Zelda - Hyrule Overworld theme Legend of Zelda - Dark world theme Legend of Zelda - Hyrule castle theme Mega Man X - Storm Eagle stage music Secret of Mana - Opening theme Star Fox - Corneria Super Mario RPG - Forest Maze Super Mario RPG - Mushroom Kingdom Super Mario RPG - Nimbus Land Super Mario World - Super Mario Bros theme (calypso version played in special world if you leave the screen idle for too long) Super Metroid - Samus theme (I like the original and arranged version) Super Metroid - Brinstar jungles
PSX: Chrono Cross - Overworld theme for the world where Serge is dead Final Fantasy VII - The Prelude (this is my favourite version of the song) Lunar 2 - Overworld theme
N64: Legend of Zelda - Song of Storms (arranged remixed version that I have for midi) Legend of Zelda - Shadow Temple Legned of Zelda - Zelda's Lullaby
Gamecube: Metroid Prime - Magmadoor Caverns (Norfair music on the Cube. YEAH!) Super Smash Bros Melee - Fountain of Dreams
That's pretty much the best of the best. I don't seem to click with current game music as much. I think it's because they make it more atmospheric so it's not as catchy. In the old days the music was all bleeps and bloops that you couldn't mix together very well so everything was more catchy.

I have three very good Zelda remixes I can e-mail to anyone who's intersted. There is an orchestrated version of the Goron City theme, a chamber medly of many earlier tunes, and an awsome piano piece of the original title theme (which I think is played by Keith Jarrett.)
Having recently played Diddy Kong Racing and Chrono Trigger again, I remember once again how brilliant the music for these is. Don't let anyone tell you video game music is the same commercial crap tacked on for the backing of many popular movies: they're lying.
Has anyone else noticed that less and less games seem to be featuring Koji Kondo as the lead composer? I've certinally noticed some change in the style of music. At least Mario Kart was awsome.

There are some(very few) soundtracks from that list I havent listened to yet, but the the ones you mentioned I already did. What I mostly listen to is the DragonBall Z background music from Japan, it's way better than the north-american versions made by Bruce Faulconer. I also like alot the Baten Kaitos OST, FF Crystal Chronicles OST, Terranigma OST(one of my all time favourite games btw), the Guilty Gear XX OST is quite good. LOL, I've got so much good music that sometimes I don't know what to listen too.
