Title: Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth
Post by: mouse_clicker on September 22, 2003, 06:17:33 PM
According to Game Revolution, a new real time strategy game is being made based on Lord of the Rings. It's being made by Westwood Studios (maker of the Command and Conquer series) and will utilize the Command and Conquer Generals engine. Personally, I'm ecstatic. I'm a huge fan of the Command and Conquer series and I'm an unfathomably big fan of Lord of the Rings, and now I have a way to incorporate those two obsessions into one glorious display of geekiness. It's not due out until next summer, but I'm already getting itchy for it.
::EDIT:: Sorry about the link problem, guys- don't know what was wrong but it appears I fixed it.

Is something wrong with that link? According to IE, I'm not authorized to view that webpage.

I get a nice big blank page in Phoenix. (Now known as Mozilla Firebird.)
But that sounds good to me. I thought after seeing the FOTR that a RTS with LOTR as a basis would be a really good idea. I played some Warcraft III as soon as I got home that day.

Looks a bit like Warcraft 3, and Warcraft 3 is my favourite RTS ever, so this could be pretty good. The Tolkien fan in me, however, is horrified. Saruman as the bad guy? He didn't turn evil until The Lord of The Ring, and this is before!

Actually, from what I understand, it takes place during, and is based on, the movies. The main thing I'm worried about is the developer taking some creative liberty and making up a whole bunch of battles, which would appear so, since there's only 4 battles in Lord of the Rings. I really don't want them constricting themselves to just LoTR, if they'd branch out into the First and Second Age (hell, even The Hobbit had a large battle at the end), they'd have a plethora of battles to depict.
Still, even if the game does completely screw around with the LotR story, I'm sure it's still going to be an incredibly fun RTS.
Also, there's another LotR RTS in the work, this one by Vivendi Universal (more specifically Liquid Entertainment), called War of the Ring. Looks like it's comingly along very nicely as well. Here's Gamespot's preview.
