Title: Nintendo Plans F-Zero GX Onilne Championship
Post by: StrikerObi on September 16, 2003, 04:33:19 PM
Gentlemen, start your plasma engines!

Nintendo has updated the Official F-Zero Website with some new information on the first F-Zero GX Championship. Starting September 25, players will be able to post their top times on the F-Zero GX Global Leaderboard to determine who is the best F-Zero player in the world.

The first available event is the Ruby Championship. Depending on which time zone players live in, the Championship will begin at a different time, seeing as this is a world-wide event. Players will compete via the Time Trial mode of the game. After breaking a record, a secret controller code can be entered on the records screen to generate a password. This password can then be entered on the F-Zero website to post a record time. The Championship’s website is located here. Full details on how to enter can be found here.

Guess you better start honing that Snake technique; I really don't understand all the buff behind it. Its not that hard to do, but you need a straightaway, and some space. I can do it in Mute City and Casino's Double Oval tracks, but only for a few seconds. My own skills will need polish. Does anyone use the Logitech Wheel? If so, any advantages?

Any of the PGC staff going to partake in this?

Why bother entering?  Everyone that knows how to snake will use it to cheat

How can this be a worldwide event? We won't get  F-Zero until October 31st in Europe.

using the snake technique is not cheating,
it's simply a matter of mastering the controls for the game
much like moves in a fighting game, or more aptly the powersliding in mario kart 64 (which was like snaking because u had to steer right left right left to get the boost when you stopped powersliding)

Unless you can show me "how to snake" in the instructions, I'm going to consider it exploiting a glitch and nothing more.  And yes, I am pretty upset that the rankings are going to be all jacked up due to people snaking.

Europe doesn't count? I hope you remember saying that when someone from Europe beats you at the next F-Zero tournament.

Rocket jumps also weren't explained in the manual.

That is a stragetic maneuver...snaking is not.  It would be fine if it gave you a tiny speed burst, but someone bursting continuously can't even catch up to someone who is snaking. Snaking wasn't made to be put in the game and is a glitch used by newbie players to beat Master class(nothing personal).

And Europe isn't being included in the competition...Sorry guys

When you think about it though guys, the fact that Nintendo are holding this and went to considerable effort to do so (you know, secret codes, that give you more codes that are scambled versions of your time which you enter ina  site that unscrambles them and ranks you) then it's quite obvious that they are slowly pushing into the online world rather than the 'no interest' approach they've been claiming.

2103 SCIENTIST WHO STUDIES ACIENT INTERNET says: you are very right but their progression is slow.  They've been doing online codes for several years now.
And then I said that I don't care much about playing online anyway, yadda, yadda, yadda, and then we had breakfast.
