Title: Next-Gen Game Boy in 2004?
Post by: Rhoq on September 14, 2003, 12:24:38 PM
NinGC.com is reporting the possibility of the next generation GameBoy to launch at sometime in 2004. They posted the following quote from Nintendo of Europe's official magazine...

Development sources have told NOM UK that they're expecting to take delivery of development kits for the Game Boy Advance's successor before Christmas. The technology is all but finalised, so this gives developers time to ready titles for a predicted 2004 launch.

If Nintendo Europe is reporting this, would the same be true for us here in the US?

Sounds good to me, but remember it could release late next year in Japan.  I doubt it will make it to the rest of the world until at least late Spring 2005

I just don't have any luck with handhelds, eh? When I bought the GBC, it was replaced by the GBA within months and now I have that GBASP and they're outdating me again???

But when in 2004? If this is true it would probably be during the holiday season.

Just when I get around to getting the SP, will I ever be up to date?

Yey, I'm glad my mom bought my little brother an sp and i didn't buy one.  Now I can just wait til' the next GBA successor comes out.. But in actuality, i'm guessing a late 2005 release, at the earliest.
Doesn't it feel like the GBA and Gamecube just came out? yet they're already being replaced.  I dunno know... i don't feel like i've gotten enough use out of my cube or gba....  just as long as they're all backward compatible,  it won't be that big of a deal.

i would bet that the new gameboy will probably launch a few months before the launch of the new nintendo console after gc- it was the same with the gamecube- the gba launched about 5 months before the gc, so i would probably expect the same thing- it will either launch late 2004 or 2005 before the new nintendo console in my opinion

I now it feels like the lifespan was short for the systems, and that's becuse it was.  At least the gamecube, anyway.

I think it's too soon for a new console, but I also think Nintendo needs to do it.  The PS2 needs a succesor sooner, and since theother two companies want to keep up, they will release sooner.  That means the power of the hardware will most like be the same, meanning the games would be the descision (for the most part) which means Nintendo will be much better off.

As long as the N5 is backwards compatible w/ the GC, I'm fine, since most likely my parents will by the N5 for me for Christmas.

Why would Nintendo kill it's golden goose?  GBA's are selling like wildfire.  By the time the competition hits the market with their system, the GBA's installed base will be well beyond 30 million.  That's a heck of a mountain to climb.

I'd bet that Nintendo will wait for $ony to deliver their Psp.  Then 6 months to a year later, after the hype dies down, Nintendo will release their system, probably at a lower price point and with better hardware specs. Heck it will probably have longer battery life as well.

Yeah, and that sort of plan really helped Nintendo with the GameCube didn't it. It also worked wonders during the N64 generation as well. Both the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 got released ahead of Nintendo's console and both of Nintendo's consoles had better hardware. Despite this Sony managed to take the throne away from Nintendo. Don't think for a minute that the PSP isn't a possible threat to the Game Boy. It's arrogant thinking that has gotten Nintendo in trouble in the past and by releasing the Next Game Boy in time to compete with the PSP shows that they have learned from their past mistakes.

Ninty will definitely release their system first this time around.  Think about it:  Ninty's system will most likely be much cheaper, and could be almost as powerful as the PSP.  What would you buy?  The cheaper, slightly more inferior one that comes out first, or the more expensive, slightly more superior one that comes out afterwards?  If Ninty does this, Sony's PSP will be a sinking boat...

The cheaper, slightly inferior with thrice the battery life that comes out earlier.

Why would Nintendo bring out the SP when they are bringing out the new GameBoy in 2004!? Thats crazy! I think they wouldve brought out the GBA SP to boost the market so they can bring out the new GameBoy late 2004 till mid 2005 near the GC's next gen console. And Bill- id buy anything Nintendo made lol I dislike Sony they made thier PS2 Cheaply as most of them broke down lol.
