Title: F-Zero GX cannot copy save data to another memory card???
Post by: DRJ on September 01, 2003, 08:46:42 AM
I like to backup all my game saves so that I dont lose them since some games take a while to complete. So I have unlocked a lot of stuff on F-Zero and I go to copy the save file to my backup card and it wont copy. The garage data copies fine, but not the gameplay data. I even tried creating a game save file with the same name on the second card and them swapping and doing a monual save and it wouldnt work. Is this something Nintendo/Sega put into the game to stop the copying, and is there a way around this.

Besides backing up the game save I also wanted to load in onto my brothers' mem card. I thought I could just copy it over periodically so that they could have everything unlocked that I do.

That is strange, upon reading your post I went to check mine and sure enough same thing.  I even tried copying the other files from the game first thinking that they need be on the other card before the game data could be, but nope.  I'd be interested to hear why this happens.

"nintendo dis this for animal crossing and phantast star..... "

I can understand it for those games 'cause it would allow you to duplicate items, but for F-Zero it doesnt make much sence to me.

I reckon it's because of duplicating cars from GX/AX.

But you can copy Garage data over, so just register the car in the garage and you could copy it to another system.

I tried combining my Eternal Darkness saves.  Wouldn't work.  I had half way beaten the game on one card and had beaten it one and a half times on the other one and wanted to combine them so I could get the uber ending.  Why even put two slots on the console if you won't let us use them for what they are for Nintendo?  I can't even copy them to the other card so that I can have them both on one card let alone on one card and combined.

Think about it, nemo.  You shouldn't be able to do that.  On Eternal Darkness there is enough room for something like 5 game saves.  If you had two separate game files on one memory card that would lead to confusion in the game: "which file of 5 game saves to load?", etc.  It makes much more sense than you are giving it credit for.  That's why SK gave us enough room for more than one save file on one memory card.

Try this..

1. Turn on F-Zero.
2. Insert your second memory card ( the one you want the copied data on ) in the GameCube.
3. Save a file on the memory card ( the second one ).
4. Turn GCN off and insert your first memory card ( the one with all the info ) in.
5. Turn F-Zero back on, load that card, and take it out of the GCN slot.
6. Insert the second memory card and try to save.

Did it work?

If you try to save onto a different card it will say there is no memory card, or the memory card has been switched blah blah blah.

If you try to save onto a different card it will say there is no memory card, or the memory card has been switched blah blah blah. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

According to this (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/GCMM#Protected_Savegames) page the game checks the randomly generated 'serial number' the memory card is given every time it's formatted. So to copy the save file to another memory card you must either change serial number that is saved in the save file, or the serial number of the memory card so that they match. If the save is also encrypted one would have to decrypt it before doing any changes to it, and then encrypt it again.

If someone has a complete save file and can check their serial number I'm happy to see if I can be able to copy that save file to my memory card. (So I don't have to unlock everything myself). I could probably modify the GCMM source code (http://code.google.com/p/gcmm/source/list) to read the memory card serial number.

Any reason you chose to update a nearly 6 year old thread? I doubt the original poster even cares anymore.

I don't think that's a SpamBot. They gave a direct answer instead of something more generic like agreeing or asking a random question, and there's no link to a product in their signature.

Weird...

Spam Bots are evolving by trying to look legit before they spam.
