Title: Resident Evil 1 (GCN) Help

I purchased this awesome game yesterday, and I've been playing a while, but now I'm stuck. This is because I cannot find any item boxes, and it's pissing me off. I am very early on in the game, so if you know of any item boxes please tell me. And no spoilers please. Thanks!

Most item boxes are located next to save points. It's been awhile since I've played, so I don't remember which one you find first...but I'm pretty sure it's on the first floor.
