Title: More from THQ and Rare
Post by: kennyb27 on August 11, 2003, 08:08:29 PM
According to IGN.com THQ, Microsoft, and Rare announced that THQ would not only publish Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge but also Banjo Pilot (an obvious take on the previously released Diddy Kong Pilot), Sabre Wulf, and an entirely new game It's Mr. Pants.

Banjo will be released September 15th and the other three will follow in early 2004.

Great news (IMO) for GBA owners.

how the hell they're going to make a whole game based around mr pants is beyond me.  this better not turn out to be a rip-off of wario ware.

Hmm, let's check out their current record...
Super Mario World = Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario 64 = Banjo-Kazooie
Legend of Zelda = Star Fox Adventures
Wario Ware = ......

Im glad that Rare is making games for GameBoy now.  Though it seems like the games they are making for it "arent mature enough for Xbox".   Long live Game Boy

well if you want to be cynical, let's look at rare's original games...

blast corps, goldeneye, jet force gemini, killer instinct (if you can count any fighting game on unique)

okay...well, i guess that's it.

and as far as "rip-off" titles go, you forgot to mention battle toads (same as every other side-scrolling fighting game) and diddy kong racing (::cough mario kart with planes cough:

OH YES!  Those frauds at Rare!  Not an original game in their entire lineup.  I mean what were they thinking for Diddy Kong Racing?  Artificial Intelligence that didn't cheat?  Upgradable weapons?  The ability to use three different types of vehicles, each with their own different performance, moves and handling?  Four player modes that WEREN'T deathmatches?  An overworld that linked up all the tracks together?  SECRET UNLOCKABLE RACERS?  Whew, I sure hate Rare.

And let's not forget their ripoffs - you've already listed some, but just take a look at these!  So blatant, I don't know how they get away with it time after time.  Honestly:

Perfect Dark = GoldenEye
Anticipation = Color a Dinosaur
Sneaky Snakes = Snake Rattle 'n' Roll
Grabbed by the Ghoulies = Luigi's Mansion
Slalom = 1080 Snowboarding
Taboo: The Sixth Sense = Eternal Darkness
Jet Force Gemini = Metroid Prime
RC Pro AM II = Ratchet & Clank
Mickey's Speedway USA = Cruis'n USA
Conker's Bad Fur Day = South Park Rally
Sabrewulf = Sabrewulf
Jetpac = Space Invaders
X the Ball = Street Fighter II
Who Framed Roger Rabbit = Cool World
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge = Pong

::sarcasm noted::

honestly, i like rare.  back when banjo-kazooie came out, i actually thought it was better than mario 64.  (since then, i've gone back and changed my mind, although i still think both games are nothing short of amazing.)

i do think that they don't create many new gameplay elements.  but they sure as hell know how to perfect already established generes.

plus, we just like taking cheap shots at rare.  makes of pain of losing them that much easier.
