Title: Sega Enters the Music Business
Post by: WindyMan on August 07, 2003, 08:00:02 PM
Sega's long-running sound studio is creating two record labels for its game music, among other things.

For about 15 years now, Sega's in-house sound studio, Wave Master, has been handling the company's console music and sound needs.  Lately, they have been pursing audio jobs in anime and movie titles.  Now Wave Master is looking to break into the music business with the creation of two new record labels.

Wave Master Entertainment will release music CDs that come out of Sega's studios, such as  game, anime and movie soundtracks.  The other new label, Wave Master Artists, will pursue popular Japanese artists and handle their new CD releases.  This second label has already signed on Avex, who has done music for some Sega games in the past.

And as Always, U.S and European gamers will have to import. But I guess this a more culturual thing, I don't see Sega of America trying to cut deals with unsigned bands/groups to get game music and exposure. The Japanese are better at that. One example is a track I heard for Final Fantasy Cyrstal Chronicles (Its somewhere on IGN, can't remember what else) where they have an established vocalist for the soundtrack, try getting some U.S diva to that!

But if Sega can afford that, that means things are starting to look good for Nintendo's former Rival. Will Sonic start rapping anytime soon?
