Title: Scrapped Princess
Post by: Grey Ninja on August 05, 2003, 09:40:18 AM
Is anyone else here watching this anime? If not, then get on it. If you are, then I am sure that you are as addicted as I am to it.
The premise of it is really simple, and sounds extremely stupid if I just blurt it out, so I won't do that. If you want to know what it's about, I'm afraid you are going to have to watch it yourself Believe me, even if you are on dialup, watching this anime is a wise choice indeed. I would call it the anime equivalent of Xenogears.

Heh. That's funny because I call you the worst poster of all time. I am just sorry that I can't keep up with your brilliant thread ideas, like which Nintendo character is the hottest or whatever.

I've just started downloading it. I've read its resumed story on www.animetorrents.com and I hope it's as good as Naruto is. The first episode of Scrapped Princess that I'm downloading is 229 MB but there is also the same episode but with only 172 MB, do you know why?

Different encoders, different methods. Better fansub groups (or encoders in general) will be able to encode a show and render a smaller filesize than another group with similar quality.
Grey Ninja, which group's SP are you watching? Also, do you watch any dramas?

Well I see a few other people are listing their favorite anime, so I will too. ^_^
Currently, I am hooked on Ai Yori Aoshi and Full Metal Panic.
I may have to check out SP whenever I get the chance...

Caliban, I am caught up in both Naruto and Scrapped Princess right now. Personally, I think that Scrapped Princess is better, but it takes a while to get going. I know that I am looking forward to Scrapped Princess 17 more than Naruto 44 at this point.
Raijin, I didn't REALLY start to love it until about the 5th or 6th episode. It's much like Xenogears in that things start out really simple, with some cryptic foreboding, and becomes REALLY big after a while.
Aoi, I am watching the Anbu-Keep fansub, but the first episode I got was by Ani-Kraze, and I really didn't like it. I haven't tried any of the others yet. I am more or less satisfied with the Anbu-Keep translation. I am not really into drama, so it's a rare occurence for me to watch one.

Heh. No. No we don't.
But if it's any consolation, I think that Naruto is freaking awesome too. I don't think it's so much that we have all that different of taste, as we both like the same games and anime it seems, but we disagree on their rankings.

Air Master is a great series. Great fighting and humor, with a bit of fanservice. It's not deep, but good for a few laughs. i watched Anime Junkies' sub of the first episode and thought "wtf is this?!" because it was so hokey. But after watching the second episode, you realize it's intentional, and that the show never takes itself too seriously.
i started watching the live action version of GTO, which was really good. The guy that plays Eikichi plays the role really well (minus the blonde hair). i've also started watching Beautiful Life (http://drama.afraid.org/bt/japan-tv/), a drama about a guy who falls for a girl in a wheelchair. It's not a mindblowing series or anything (at least not from what i've seen up to episode six), but the obvious chemistry they have despite her situation is really captivating. The fact that people in wheelchairs aren't given the same respect or catered to in Japan as much as in the US heightens the difficulty of their relationship as well as providing a bit of social commentary on the conditions for the wheelchair-bound in Japan. Watching Japanese express themselves in series like this, especially when it comes to love or serious emotions on these shows feels really pure in a childlike sense. It's nothing like uber fake soaps we get in the US.

Alright, I am just going to ignore the fact that this thread is 2 months old, and the fact that the majority of it is off topic.
I just finished watching the final episode of Scrapped Princess. Given the nature of Episode 23, I thought that Episode 24 (the last), would be either really rushed, or really incomplete. I have to say that it seriously surprised me though. The series really ended well. I am left with an empty spot in my heart where my favorite show should be, as I am still coming to grips with seeing the last episode of my favorite anime. I will never see another episode of Scrapped Princess. That saddens me. But the emptiness is partially filled by the fantastic ending that they gave us. It made Ninja cry.
I currently have all 24 episodes of Scrapped Princess from Keep-Anbu on my hard drive right now. I will be burning them all to CD soon, but before I do, I might share them via the 24 episode bittorrent file currently available though. Seriously. If you haven't seen this anime yet, now is a good time to be getting it. It may be your last chance to get it at a good speed. All 24 episodes are there, and they are currently being shared. If you have broadband, you can have it in a day or two. There's no telling how long it's going to remain up. If you like anime at all, you have to see this.
I have seen a lot of anime in my day. But I think this is my favorite.

You know what Grey Ninja?! The company that produced SP should do a series on the premise to SP but involving the conflict between humans and aliens. This way they can keep us SP fans happy.
Edit: I knew I was having deja vu. I wrote this on this same forum, LOL.

Yeah, I know you did. I just thought that I would bring the discussion to its own thread.
The thing is... I am happy with the ending that they gave us. In spite of the empty feeling in my heart, I really feel that they did the right thing and ended where it was supposed to, rather than dragging it on indefinately like Kenshin.
I also don't really think that we need to see the rest of the story. Enough was told to us that we can definately figure out what happened before. What happens after is really not a question I think should be answered. But don't get me wrong. If they announced another season, I would jump up and cheer for joy. I just think that I can accept the ending as it stands. I don't really need to see the war between the aliens and men. The thing is, I think the story is PERFECT the way it stands, and I fear that a sequel would only bring disgrace.
Anyways, I just thought I should mention that I have shared all 24 episodes, and it's being uploaded at over 80kb/s. I will probably shut it down sometime tomorrow, so really... you should get this. If you trust me on nothing else, trust me on this.

So how are you doing on watching it Perm? I talked to you on MSN the other day, and you said you were downloading the first episode. I assume you have it by now?

the first episode was pretty cool. I know its a setup episode so not much happened. I liked the art style. I had troubles downloading it...my computer crashed hwne it was at 97 percent and wouldnt continue form where it left off. So i tried redownloading it...it was going intolerably slow. So i reset it a few times and got a stream of 65k a sec and it downloaded pretty quick. Is it me or does the Pacifica's brother(still havnt got names down yet) remind you of Marth?

That would be Shannon. But it's strange that you couldn't resume, as that's one of Bittorrent's specialties. You are supposed to be able to fix any problems in the file as you go along.
I'm glad you like it though. The first episode contains one of my favorite parts, which is where Raquel nukes the church. That part just made me laugh so hard.

Well, I'm downloading it right now, but I get 10k/sec at max. I'm at 16% of the all-episodes-version.

yeah it was very strange i couldnt resume(i never had that problem before)......it just decided to start over when i tried t oresume...which is why you should always amke a backup file when you got to resume...just incase it messes up when it resumes and writes a new blank one over it
and how could i forget such a manly name like Shannon? O_o

ThePerm maybe it didn't resume the download because when your computer crashed bittorent might have reset the download file to another folder than the one where you had the 97% file. So now you have two scrapped princess files, one complete and another incomplete. You better check if that happened.
BTW I'm using a bittorrent client that has never failed me check it out at http://bt.degreez.net/.

Okay, now I'm not a big fan of anime, aside from Cowboy Bebop (and Naruto is decent), but this is obviously a good show. . . I suppose I'll take a look.
