Title: Sequels and/or Updates
Post by: GCNMasterX on August 05, 2003, 06:28:00 AM
Sequels are well-known for being suckier than the original. This isnt always true (Timesplitters 2, Vice City) But for the computer games, there are too many updates or exapnsion packs to their games.

One company who calls themselves Maxis w/ EA Games have been creating many updated versions of many of their older games, but what about new material? All the Sims updates, Sim City 4 and such is all they got. Sim City 4 is an awesome game, but they should come up with some newer stuff.

Newer stuff is a good thing. Dont you agree?

Yes, but when the company can make a quick buck by releasing something that is "tried and true" then they will.  And the newer stuff has a double edge to it.  People want and demand new and innovated games and ideas, but when they get them they decry them for being stupid or the what because they are too different from already established games or series.  Pikmin and Animal Crossing, success' in each of their own were not welcomed with open arms by the critics because they were quirky games with a new perspective to gameplay.

You're right. The games that "define" new terms of gameplay can be really good (except for Enter the Matrix, although the effects and stunts were cool)

i saw this quote somewhere, and it somewhat fits this situation

Quote

give gamers an inch and they will want a mile, give gamers a mile and they will remember when an inch was more than enough

i would like a better mix of updates / new titles, i like sequels and expansion packs as much as the next guy, but i would kinda prefer there were more new than old, for example, do we REALLY need that many crash bandicoots? ('but PIAC! what about all those zelda's/mario's?') i don't mind sequels when they are actually good
