Title: Connecting Gamecube through a tv wonder
Post by: mad-snoogans on July 29, 2003, 09:19:56 AM
Hey,

I just received an ATI tv wonder VE card. I took my GC and connected the rca cables accordingly. Everything worked fine, however, the picture is a piece of donkey %&$*. My monitor is a 17" lcd and unfortunately the lowest resolution can go is 800x600. I know that console games are meant to be played on 320x480 and/or 640x480 resolutions. Anyone know of any way that the image can be enhanced?

thanks.

You should be using S-Video connectors, not RCA, and should've had a standard CRT monitor, not LCD, regardless of the resolution you run things in.

S-Video.

S-Video.

S-Video.

If there's no S-Video hookup on your TV Wonder, I guess you're out of luck.

I have a ATI TV Wonder VE too, and I think part of the problem is the card isn't that great to begin with.  The ATI software that comes with it gives bad picture quality.  The best result you can probably get from the card is by using Dscaler, a free video capture card viewer thingy program, www.dscaler.org

I also think that this card can't actually Deinterlace, remove the scan lines and produce a clear image for a PC, so the picture quality still isn't that great. If it could Deinterlace, I would be getting very good 640x480 screen shots, but they come out bad and have to be resized to 320x240 to look ok.  Even if it had S-Video inputs, it still wouldn't look good because the card won't deinterlace. Even with Dscaler, my games still look much better on my regular TV. Next time, I'm going to invest about $100 in a good card, probably by http://www.hauppauge.com/ , with S-Video.

TV Wonders are crap.  There's no way in hell that you will ever get the picture quality better than a 60's color TV.

But the all in wonders are sure nice, hehe. (looks at his all in wonder 8500 w/128 mb ram)

By the way, you try checking for latest drivers for the card?
