The "social media" options for screenshots and video on Switch will not include Miiverse, nor will there be StreetPass.
Nintendo of America assistant manager for public relations confirmed the news to VentureBeat at a press event today in New York City. StreetPass was specifically excluded in order to promote the concept of the Switch as a home console.

Okay, sure, I'll buy their reason for excluding streetpass, but Miiverse? Seriously? You've added photo/video sharing, and you're doing away with Miiverse?!?!

If that's the case then how did they manage to implement it on 3DS? Miiverse for Switch seems like such a no-brainer it's mind-boggling for them not to have it. Part of me is still holding out hope though-- irrationally choosing to the interpret the choice of words meaning it'll be mandatory rather than optional. :P:

I don't think I ever used Miiverse at all so I don't really care about that. I'm a little more down on losing Streetpass. That was a fun concept, though one that didn't work as well in my area as it would in a big city.
The reasoning for excluding it to promote the Switch as a console is pretty dumb though. The whole hook of this is that it's a handheld and a console. Emphasizing it as a console just makes it look like a tweak on the failed Wii U concept with some more Wii style motion control getting renewed emphasis as well. I'm sure in Nintendo's warped mind doubling down on these concepts is the whole point. In other words they think the Wii U was a good concept that was just poorly executed but THIS time it will work out. If this is a console why should I pay $300 for this tablet screen if it's just going to stay in this dock the whole time when the other consoles are cheaper and have more games? As a console the Switch's screen concept is actually done shittier than the Wii U because the Wii U's screen is always available to compliment the TV screen. With the Switch it appears you're either using the TV by connecting to the dock or you're using the tablet screen on its own.
But this tablet screen stuff gets justified by the system being a console and a handheld. That's what, in theory, makes this worthwhile. So that should be the focus of the marketing. Play this fully featured console Zelda ANYWHERE!! That's a sales pitch!

Except the Switch has the same hard drive space as the Wii U Deluxe did, and the 3DS even managed to have Miiverse.
I didn't use Miiverse much, but it was a nice feature that they should have kept.

I fell off if miiverse after I basically complained and/or rallied for all of my personal desires. I still like it though and would have liked something like it to take its place. Maybe something will.
Losing Streetpass though is real shame. That is my favorite favorite thing about the 3DS! I love when I'm sitting in a restaurant and that little green light goes on. it's fun to look around and see who it could be. Swapping data between games is also cool. Swapping ghost data with Mario Kart was my favorite man!
Oh well what can you do? It's not as if they couldn't add it again sometime later down the line.

Im not surprised by the lack of miiverse. Nintendo have kind of been ignoring it recently
Im disappointed with no streetpass. That was one of the coolest things about the 3DS

Miiverse was one of the best parts of the WiiU. They hobbled it halway through, but it was still good. Now they are getting rid of it? Harambe will be forgotten. I imagine the lack of stylus is part of the reason.
I hope they plan on a replacement. Perhaps integrated into MyNintendo or Miitomo?
