Title: Airport questions.

I'm going to be flying to Japan later this week and bringing a few consoles with me and was wondering if I should bring the memory cards through the x-ray or not. And would there be any possibility that they security might give me trouble about having the consoles in my carryon? Like that I might have a bomb or something in them? I wouldn't think so but I suppose it's possible. Thanks.

The x-ray machine has never damage my memory cards before, so I don't see why it should hurt yours. Instead of putting your console/s through the machine, though, you should probably take it out and put it on a tray like they have you do with laptops.

Hmmm i seem to recall a PGC Forum member creating a topic because either his GC or friends GC got confused with a bomb while going through an X-Ray machine. This was a while ago and i definatley remember it. So just in case i would just take it out like Mouse_Clicker said

No problems what so ever. The X-ray machines did zero harm to my stuff. Probaly came out cleaner than when it was put in.

If you're really afraid, just do what mouse_clicker recommends and put it in the tray or let the people in the scanning station know that your equipment is sensitive. Also, make sure that whatever packages you bring with you can easily be opened if need be. For most things, x-rays are harmless. They can damage certain types of film although it's mostly high end stuff.

First time I had consoles in my carry on, when they saw it in the x-ray machine, they asked me to take it out and put it on a tray, so whether you do it yourself or not, it's going to happen.

X-Rays do damage to living tissue (because they are short bursts of energy). They shouldn't do damage to the memory cards. I could understand if they had some powerful magnetic fields, but then you'd have problems with laptops being scrambled etc.
And the whole checking consoles, maybe it's paranoia, maybe its an easy smuggling target, I'm not sure.
