Title: E3 2016 thread. Predictions. News
Post by: ThePerm on June 06, 2016, 10:33:01 PM
Well, most everyone stopped caring about e3 last yer when a bunch of big names decided they weren't going to be doing much there. There will be still be some new stuff though. I just watched the Yooka Laylee video and thatt reminded me that there was an e3. What do you guys predict will happen? What news do you have that hasn't been discussed?

I have oddly started to look forward to E3 2016 again following Nintendo's announcements a little while ago. I'm excited to see the new Zelda, excited to see Pokemon Sun and Moon, and possibly getting release dates on stuff like Dragon Quest VII and VIII, and Rhythm Heaven would be nice. Maybe they even drop a minor reveal like Picross 3D 2 for the west at some point.

The PS4 has finally accumulated (or will, assuming Final Fantasy XV and Persona 5 don't get kicked into 2017) enough games that I wanna play on it that I'm planning on picking one up during the holidays, so I'm eager to see if Sony reveals new hardware and announces a price drop for the current models. I don't follow Sony or Microsoft rumours at all, so I'm not really sure what the latest is on that.

I predict most posters are going to complain about how this was the worst E3 ever and hate on all the games shown and question every decision Nintendo has ever made up to this point. They're going to be upset with what was shown but be even more upset with what wasn't shown and could or should have been whether real or fictional. People will swear off on ever buying Nintendo products again and talk about how great the competition is in comparison.

There. Will. Be. Rants.

I've resigned myself to buying Nintendo hardware. I know I'm going to so no need to pretend I won't.

I'm looking forward to more Zelda news. I expect Nintendo to sneak some NX news into the show. Not a lot, just enough to get people talking.

I predict mourning all afternoon and evening. The deceased will deliver the eulogy, and those in attendance will have three days for rebuttal.

Honestly, the only announcement I'd like from E3 is a date as to when they are going to do a Nintendo Direct talking all about NX. That's why people were so outraged with Nintendo's E3 when it was announced they wouldn't be discussing it this year. People had E3 as the expected date for this news and when that disappeared, everyone was left wondering when this information was finally going to become public. Just a give a firm date of when this news is happening and it will calm the fan base down a bit and help make them more receptive to the other stuff Nintendo does want to talk about right now.

I want Zelda Wii U to be Ocarina of Time level. Not patterned after OoT, but making that big of splash on the scene.

Being an open world Zelda gives it a good chance to do that.  Right now in the open world market, nothing comes close to the variety in different types of gameplay you will do in 3D Zelda games, or how fluid it's combat and controls are compared to them.  Now put Zelda's controls and gameplay in a huge open world environment and you could have a real game changer.  Don't be surprised if after this game is released all other open world games start copying some of the things Zelda does to help innovate the open world experience.

The fact Nintendo is willing to show off as much as they plan on doing next week for a game that's still at least 9 months away shows they must feel they have something pretty special in the works.

A final name and may a logo for the NX would be nice, even if paired with nothing more than "more details coming soon".  It would certainly spark the speculation machines.

I also expect about 100 thinkpieces about Nintendo falling out of relevance.

I'll probably watch 15 minutes of the treehouse live and get bored. Then I'll wait for game announcements that will probably not come.

Since the Wii U is probably not going to have any surprises I'm more interested in the 3DS.  There still is the possibility of new 3DS games getting announced.  Maybe not from Nintendo but good third party games actually get made for the 3DS so someone else like Square Enix or Atlus could reveal something.  I'm especially interested in getting a solid release date for Dragon Quest VII.  I've recently gotten into the series so this one is on my radar but I hear the 3DS version has better pacing while the original PS1 release takes forever to get going.  My local used game store has had a copy of the PS1 version for a while but I'm leaning on getting the 3DS one.  So I want a solid confirmation of a North American release.

Zelda does interest me but with it also getting an NX release we won't know the full picture.  So how exciting is the Wii U version going to be?  What if the NX version blows it away?  I also don't really trust Nintendo to not spoil the game to a ridiculous extent.  Hopefully they have a bite-sized trailer I can watch.

The thing is that there is something exciting that Nintendo has in the works: THE NX!  And we're not going to see it at E3 but THAT is what I want to see.  As a result E3 just feels like a stopgap before we get the REAL Nintendo news at a later time.

For the last few years they've either dropped offhand details about future stuff in interviews, or had closed-door briefings with some extra stuff, so I expect we'll get at least something beyond Zelda. NX stirrings, or perhaps even a glimpse of the NX version of ZeldaU for the press.

Nintendo will announce that the Legend of Zelda demo has been delayed, and they will promptly go out of business.

I have a prediction, Zelda U will have a jump button. After thinking about Xenoblade and other open world games, only having auto jump wouldnt work so well.

Oh and the follow ball will be a fairy.

It looks like the horse has the auto run feature of Xenoblade X that makes playing the game for looong periods of time easier since you don't have to always strain your hands when just going in a straight line and can just make quick course corrections.

That, and I can't imagine there not being a fast-travel option if they're truly going for a more open world direction.

I'd be cool if Zelda Wii U has fully realised Loft Wings from Skyward Sword.

It seems like a big year for Sony and Microsoft, with new hardware and a decent number of games releasing.  I am interested to see what happens and how well the Sony VR solution pans out.  VR has a high barrier of entry right now, but for a fledgling product it works really well.  I have only used the Oculus and look forward to cheaper, more lightweight, and more immersive options.

As for Nintendo, I am split on Zelda.  On one hand, it looks great so far and I am very curious.  On the other, I don't want to spoil too much.  I have done that with some games in the past, and it does take most of the magic out of seeing the game unfold as I play it.  It's not like I need more information to decide whether to buy it.  Since I am less attached to Pokemon and its story, I'll totally take the spoilers there.  Otherwise, they just need to announce enough 3DS titles to make the platform feel alive.  The 3DS is such a great system to own already and they should be able to transition to the next system more gracefully than with the Wii U.

I'm hoping for some new 3DS game announcements. Of the releases already publicized, I'm looking forward to learning more about Corpse Party and hope we get a firm release date for Dragon Quest VII (and more information about DQVIII).  I'm also interested in River City, Story of Seasons, and Pokemon, so there should be a decent amount of stuff for me.

Even though I have no interest in buying a PS4 for PSVR, I am expecting PSVR to be the best overall VR experience. Im sure Sony are making sure that the games are as good as they possibly can be.

Im also interested to see what new hardware Microsoft will show. I bought an Xbox One last September, so I dont have any plans on buying anything new, but it could still be good.

My late optimistic prediction is that they will show off a new handheld which is nothing more than a controller clip-on for smart phones with a GBA cartridge/2DS card reader and optional battery pack as their "revolutionary" new hardware. They will then go on and on about how this is such a green echo friendly way to recycle and repurpose ‎old phones and gift them to kids/nieces/nephews with just a cheap $25 attachment.

Then Miyamoto will fly out in a water jet pack over Reggie to complete the ritual.
