Title: Shovel Knight Amiibo Dated
Post by: Shaymin on December 03, 2015, 03:40:44 PM

Europe will be digging into it before Christmas

Yacht Club Games has confirmed the launch date for the Shovel Knight amiibo, and Europe will be having a very merry Christmas.

The amiibo will launch in Europe on 11 December, with a North American release to follow on January 8 in order to ensure there is enough to meet the demand. Some European stores have the amiibo and have sold it, including to Nintendo World Report European chief Daan Koopman.

Yacht Club's blog entry also reiterated the features that will be available to Wii U and 3DS owners with the amiibo, including co-op and a challenge mode.

Co-op is exclusive to Wii U and only available via the amiibo. So if you wanted more substantial content for you amiibo, there you go. People are pissed.

Not seeing why people should be that pissed.

It's DLC content, it requires a payment, big deal. If you don't like DLC additions, that's ok. But this is clearly optional content added after the fact, so it's not like they are just throwing in an arbitrary pay wall for Wii U owners.

(That said, it would be nice if the content that didn't actually require saving data to Amiibo would be available for purchase digitally, on all consoles, at some point in the future.)

I'd be excited if I had any reason to think this toy would actually be available for purchase that day, instead of scooped up by the dozens by scalpers.

Modern Colors Mario was surprisingly plentiful at Walmart. Supply has been getting better. I'm sure Yacht Club Games is anticipating interest based on how well Amiibo has been selling. I don't even have Shovel Knight yet, but I'm planning on buying the Amiibo.

Yeah, I feel like broodwars' statement isn't based off of anything recent in the world of amiibo except, perhaps, Mega Yarn Yoshi... but that sucker was $40...

I had to get most of my collection (particularly the Fire Emblem characters, including the more recent Lucina) from Australia because stores here in FL never stocked them. The stores here only get the undesirables like Dr. Mario, the Animal Crossing ones, & Gannondorf.

Marth has become fairly common - folks have posted pics of entire endcaps and dump bins of him.  Ike has been pretty generous of late as well.

Amiibo supply has been much, much better lately. Which kind of sucks for my wallet... but is still nice to see.

But I think Brood has a point. Far too many Nintendo things still have significant supply issues when first released and only become generally available when (if?) a second print run comes out. Maybe that won't be an issue with the Shovel Knight Amiibo.  Maybe the fact that non-Nintendo gamers might also want to buy the figure will make it hard to find. Until we actually see it in stock, I think some skepticism is fair.
