Title: GamePads now being sold individually (Japan only for now)
Post by: Soren on November 24, 2015, 10:19:46 AM
Spotted on twitter. https://twitter.com/JoeMerrick/status/669074467444887552 (https://twitter.com/JoeMerrick/status/669074467444887552)

¥13,284. (£70/$108). You can still only use one of them per console. I hope this is offered in the west because the left stick on my GamePad is starting to go soft.

Just a heads up to anyone but the gamepad it's self is region locked so these aren't importable.

The price has gone down from the time of the Wii U's launch. I recall a replacement part price list having a Wii U GamePad in the $160 range.

If they eventually offer replacements I'll probably buy one near the end of the next generation as a backup in case this one fails.

$108? Maybe at launch, not at the end of 2015.

I feel an "Ian" type ran boiling in me but I think I'll wait. I will say that the GamePad being region locked is some HorseShit to the nth degree.

They were $150 from day 1 in Japan, this is just a price reduction.  So I doubt we'll ever get the Gamepad separate in the states.

My city has a local Nintendo sponsor repair shop and for a simple screen replacement it's like $55 the labor costs ($25 a hour/but the employees only take $9/hour).

A simple analog swap wouldn't be more than $30 I would say, $5 piece of hardware.  You can actually do this yourself, it's rather easy.

F that rate. When I was doing repairs I made $20/hr. Repair shops are nothing without their techs. Having said that, replacing the screen on the Wii U gamepad is simple and very cheap to do on your own. The DS on the other hand...bottom screen - no problem, top screen - monumental pain in the ass.

Forward compatible with the NX?

Forward compatible with the NX?

Not thats a term that brings back memories, Forward Compatibility. Another reason that Twilight Princess is the greatest of all Nintendo games but I digress, I want the Gamepad NX to at least put out 720p. I do think that ALL EXISTING HARDWARE will be Forward Compatible.
