Title: The Storyline of Hyrulian Legends
Post by: SSJ4 on July 11, 2003, 03:42:05 PM
From 1987 up to present we have seen Link change from dark hair and dark eyes, to blonde hair and blue eyes, then back to darker eyes just in appearance. There are different Links somewhere. I knew when I first saw OoT before anyone knew it's true connection in the series. Totally different looking character.
His shield has transformed from a cross being the center graphic on his shield, to the Hyrulian crest from OoT.
Ganon became known as Ganondorf, Prince of Thieves in Zelda: a Link to the Past. And was first seen in human form in OoT. Instead of being a pig-like creature that could be destroyed by well aimed silver arrows in the original.
It's just very confusing to sit down and think about which Link is which. I'm positive a guy like Miyamoto plans to connect all of the Zelda franchise together one day.
--------------------------------------- First Generation Link starred in OoT, and MM. But also had roles in the SSB series. He must be the same Link that was found in LttP, because that's when he met the King of Hyrule, right?
Second Generation Link is the WW Link, I think, and went on to star in Link's Awakening. Upcoming game inbetween somewhere, maybe?
Third Generation started it all with LoZ and Zelda II: the Adventure of Link.
-------------
That is how I THINK the story fits together so far.

The Oracle games could involve the same Link as LoZ and AoL, though- I'm not quite sure if it's an entirely different story.

I just ignore any possible connections between the Links. OoT and MM are together, and WW is a few hundred years after that. Aside from that, there's no actual timeline.

Even if you don't believe there's a timeline, the question still pertains to how many alternate Links are there among the alternate timelines. Each new Link can be considered an alternate timeline or the next Link in the same timeline.

I don't agree with alternate timelines, per se. Prior to OoT, there is no distinguishable timeline at all, aside from maybe a pair of games going together (LttP and LA). And even the current GB games have little to do with the any of the other ones aside from themselves, as far as I can tell.

I think the alternate timeline theory is the one Miyamoto himself actually says is true- I personally haven't decided which is true, but I think the one timeline with multiple Links theory is much more intruiging and epic.

Miyamoto did say something along the lines of "in each set of games a new Link rises to the occasion" -- of course I'm paraphrasing, but that was basically what he said. There's been very little "official" discussion with the public regarding the "timeline" of the games. I have heard some people say that Nintendo does have a "master timeline" for the games, but that it is not shared with public. I don't know if that is true however. I take the same stance as Hostile Creation, in that the only Zelda games that fit a true timeline are OoT, MM and WW (so far). The other games fit into pairs, but not with all of the other games insofar as them being one continuous timeline.

Meh, I really don't think the different designs of Links really tell you how many there are- Miyamoto liked to redesign Link a lot, even when it was the same one.

I just think of it as different Links for each console (for the most part).

Most likely not. In the Oracle games Link is just meeting Zelda for the first time.
