Title: External hard drive not working using y-cable
Post by: tendoboy1984 on December 15, 2014, 05:05:24 PM
My external hard drive isn't working properly. It sometimes disconnects randomly, even while using a Y-cable (I tried the front and rear USB ports). I was able to copy all of my game data to it, but when I tried copying the game data from the hard drive back to my Wii U I received this message:

"An error occurred while moving the game data. Some content couldn't be transferred."

So now some of my game data is stuck on the hard drive.

if you have a spare USB phone charger plug one end of that to it and see if that powers your USB drive.

Is it an external or portable hard drive? The ones explicitly named external always need an external power source hooked to an outlet for it to turn on, even with a y-cable. If it's a portable hard drive, the y-cable should work just fine.

It's a portable hard drive that's powered by the USB ports (hence the need for a Y-cable). I found out the problem, I just had to disable the hard drive's sleep mode and now it works perfectly.

The hard drive uses a proprietary port.

No, one of the two USB connectors, connect it to the power brick
