The Austrian based Nordic Games has announced that it purchased the rights to de Blob from THQ on their website.

On the acquisition, the Business & Product Development Director Reinhard Pollice gave the following statement: ''We are excited about what the future holds for this polychromatic extravaganza as the newest addition to our portfolio. We will evaluate opportunities with the existing games, as well as potential sequels.''

de Blob came out on the Nintendo Wii in 2008 and was received well by critics and gamers alike. A multi-platform follow-up was released three years later in 2011.

I really enjoyed the original de Blob. It wasn't without its problems (e.g. having to play a level for upwards of an hour to do everything with no save points during it), but the soundtrack ruled, the concept was fresh, and it controlled really well.

Glad to see the franchise might not be AWOL forever.
