Title: Episode 128: One and a Bunch of Zeros
Post by: TheYoungerPlumber on September 14, 2014, 02:45:18 PM

Site Director Neal Ronaghan puts his various review copies down to appreciate some fantastic game soundtracks…as well as at least one of dubious quality.

Did you like this episode's game selections? Let your fellow listeners know in TalkBack! Think you've got a better choice? Then send it my way and your request might be on the next episode of Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition!  Heck, throw in a question and specific songs if you want.  Just remember, it has to be a game found on a Nintendo system in North America (unless we say otherwise)!

Games featured in this episode:

  1. Fortune Street (a.k.a. Boom Street) (Wii)
  2. Shovel Knight (3DS / Wii U)
  3. Mario Clash (VB)
  4. Goof Troop (SNES)
  5. Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (3DS)

Okay, I was laying in bed with the lights off planning to use Radio trivia to ease me to sleep.

then Game #2 came on and within the first few notes, I was sitting up in bed and full of energy.

Jake Kauffman is my cocaine.

I will make another post with my score and overall thoughts of the podcast.

3/5. I need to seriously listen to Game 1's soundtrack in it's full. I really only guessed  it and played the metagame there. Game 2 was... well, see my previous post. Game 3 had me stumped, and I've played it, much like Neal. 4 I had played out of curiosity via somewhat dubious means, and 5 is... well, yeah. I think the show explained it best.

Still, excelent work. I love these shows. <3

Hoohaa! It's strange/neat that all three of my selections have stumped the participants (Windy and Hagane doesn't count since he had to use Wikipedia :P ). I believe I described Game 3's soundtrack as a carnival ride in outer space. I'll have to re-listen to the soundtrack again, because it sounded like some of the crazier tracks didn't make it into Radio Trivia (but I might be wrong, again I'll have to refresh my memory of the music).

I didn't recognize Game 4's music at all. I had to play the meta game to get the last one. I haven't played the game, but the music was familiar, so I thought it had to be the latest one.

Another great show TYP! Radio Trivia is always a welcome treat.

TYP, have you considered getting someone else to help find/record some of the music for Radio Trivia (assuming that would help you get episodes out more frequently)? I really like the podcast, but it would be nice if episodes came out more often.

Glad everyone enjoyed the episode. As far as I'm concerned, Game 3 has one of the weakest soundtracks ever associated with Mario or Nintendo as a whole. I could forgive Nintendo if this were a black box NES game, but there's really no excuse here. I have to think it was a rush job after someone decided to actually release the product.

Yoshi1001, regarding the frequency of Radio Trivia episodes, picking the games/music isn't actually a big factor. The bigger bottle-necks are coordinating with co-hosts on a time to record, the time it takes to actually edit an episode, and outside factors (work, family, etc). If I settled back into a rigid schedule with one or two "regular" co-hosts these would come out more often, but I'm not comfortable making that commitment at this time.
