Title: Natsume Announces Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley for 3DS
Post by: NWR_Neal on June 03, 2014, 11:05:41 AM

The newest entry in the Harvest Moon series is set for a 2014 release.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley is coming to 3DS later this year, according to publisher and developer Natsume.

The Lost Valley, which is being developed internally at Natsume, features a full 3D setting for the first time in the series, allowing players to fully customize their world with whatever crops and flowers they want in their farm.

Last week, XSEED announced that they were bringing Story of Seasons, known as Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land in Japan, to North America. The Lost Valley is not related to that game. Natsume owns the Harvest Moon name in North America and this new game is being developed by Natsume as opposed to regular Harvest Moon developer Marvelous.

Natsume's most recent internally developed games include Reel Fishing Paradise 3D and Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove 3D. They have developed Harvest Moon games internally before, mostly spin-offs such as Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming on DS, or alternate versions of Marvelous-developed games such as Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life on GameCube.

Interesting. When it was announced that Natsume had 3 games for Nintendo systems, I didn't think one would be Harvest Moon with Marvelous using XSEED to localize Story of Season. It appears there may be some internal fighting at Natsume by not allowing Story of Seasons to have the Harvest Moon brand and now also releasing a new Harvest Moon game against Story of Seasons.

I'm curious and a bit worried at what this Harvest Moon game is given that Xseed has The Story of Seasons.

I hope it doesn't turn out to be a shameful cash grab on a name.

You completely missed his point. The Nastume title is going to be the awful cash-grab knock-off and the XSeed version will be the true version. It was not a knock against the Harvest Moon series, but a knock against Natsume's attempt to hold on to the title.

I'm sticking with the "true" sequel. I am also a fan of XSeed so I like to support their efforts when able. If the Natsume version turns out great as well I might consider getting it but I have a feeling it will not be anywhere near as good.

Wait for the reviews, maybe the Natsume one will be interesting.

But if you want the true sequel, XSeed's The Story of Seasons is the next game.

Wow. And I've yet to even try one of these games out, despite owning a few! D:

Yeah, I wasn't badmouthing the series; I've been a big fan of it for a long time, but this game is Harvest Moon in name only. Natsume owns the trademark for the "Harvest Moon" name, but this game isn't made by the same people as the older ones.

Don't suppose there is any way they can attempt to reclaim the name. I fear this could confuse and turn off fans and possibly cripple the series in the long-term.

Though the genre is a niche genre so the majority of it's fans will be aware of the switch and purchase accordingly.

I freaked a Natsume PR rep out on Twitter by saying this: The endgame is Marvelous AQL buying Natsume USA.

Hah! That would be a way to solve it.
