Title: Wario World Njah Njah Njah Njaaaaah Njaaaaaah
Post by: Nintendo on June 21, 2003, 03:54:49 AM
I bought Wario World yesterday and have been playing it for an hour. And I must say Wario World, which is Wario's second 3D adventure, only this time for the GameCube, is great. I absolutely love what I've played of it so far! It's a basic platform game as it has a forced view, but I get this nostalgic Wario Land GB/VB feeling from playing it, collecting coins & crystals etc., so that's always good
I don't know when you Americans will get this game, but I'd definately advise it as a rental, or if you're a Wario Land fan.... buy it outright, you won't be sorry!

What about it's replay value? I've heard its very short. I think i might get this game anyway though, i love short fun games. Thanks for the impressions.

I want this game but not at $50. IGN has stated about 5 hours is all you'll need to play through it. That will probably translate to 10-15 hrs for me as I tend to explore everything when playing. I'll wait for the price to drop. I imagine by the holiday season it'll be down to the players title price of $30 and some stores may even have it for $20. I can wait.

I bought this too! So war its excellent,i have beaten 2 of the first big bosses. I doubt it has too much replay value, but its really fun first time around.
And i got F-Zero maximum velocity coming from mail next week, i need something to keep me going until GX.

i really want this game- i know it is short but that doesnt bother me i remember buying games for the super nintendo and regular nintendo and most of those games could be beaten in an hour tops- but they were fun the only criticism i have heard on wario thus far is its length- most have said it is fun as hell to play but it is short so it leaves you longing for more i also want this game since one of my favorite developers makes it- treasure!!

I'm a big Wario fan, so I'll try to give my non-prejudged view on the game.
Currently I'm at world 2, level 2. The fun-factor of this game is really high, I heard it's short, but so be it. The fun is what you make of it. I must say that I don't understand the high delay, the gameprice and the endresult when it comes to both parts. But for me, I just wanted this game badly and enjoy it even still. The replay value is the fun factor, if you don't see that, that value might be low. But did the old Mario games have replay value? Yes? Why, ask yourself. If you think this game is short, well .... to me, so were a few of those.
Of course, they made a few strange gameplay things. Health is never an issue, especially when you play a lot of action, which I like, you always have enough coins. Reviving yourself for a mere 200 coins at a Boss, which means you start with FULL HEALTH and he again his his low health, or the way you left him .... come on .... this just CAN'T be Nintendo's decision, must be development, at least I understood another company developed it.
In any case. I adjusted my playstyle to it now, since it feels like cheating. Even if it's in the game, something HAS to make it challenging. So I just replay the entire field if a Boss kills me, after using it for the first time, it just DIDN'T feel right, normally when I get a boss, I feel like I accomplished something. The bosses are very fun though, they came up with a few nice ones.
Another thing I changed was, when I'm in the mini-platform games, I force myself to get ALL the coins, I won't leave until I do .... there's no penalty when you drop, which is another strange gameplay decision. So I made it a bit harder for myself, it's all about the way you want to play. I like it this way, BUT as a sidenote, I think development should have thought better (Did they at ALL?) about these things.
Again, the fun factor is high, like Wario should be.
Marco

I hear two complaints on it...it is too easy and short...
I don't like that combination, but if the fan factor comes through, the game will be good. I'll be giving this a rental.

I just passed the third world. I have gotten all the treasures, saved all the little guys and gotten all of the heart containers and crystal. so if this keeps up itll have no replay value to me at all. But its really fun game!

apacolypse--I'll help you.
That dial you mentioned has to be cranked to open the gate. To do that you need to use your spinning attack. Instead of beating smack out of all the baddies at the gate, leave one and knock him out. Pick him up and go to the dial. Now, start rotating the control stick quickly to spin the monster against the dial to get it to move. The gate will open, but you need to move quickly because it immediately retracts.
Hope that helps.
As for my impressions of the game--I think it's really fun. It's not terribly diffcult, but there are few tricky situations so the game is not on complete autopilot. I'm thinking the difficultly has become a tragedy of Nintendo's desire to make their games more accessible. Some people complained about SMS difficulty, so they have responed in kind with games that I think are too easy at times. I have no idea why Nintendo almost refuses difficulty settings. Treasure usually makes very hard games so I'm guessing that this was mainly Nintendo's call.
Outside of that Wario World does have a old school feel which will appeal to people who are sick of 3d platformer collectathons. This is about as close we get to old school sidescrolling for the moment. Overall this will fill the void nicely until I get Viewtiful Joe which, from the impressions I have read, seems to have been perfectly executed including the difficulty.

"Njah Njah Njah Njaaaaah Njaaaaaah"
How do you pronounce that? "J" cannot directly follow an "N" without a vowel in between because we are not physically capable for going from "N" directly to "J" without something in between. You can try to force it together with your mouth, but, if you notice, you are unwittingly forcing a hint of a vowel in between the two letters when you speak them; not a well-defined vowel, but traces of one, none-the-less.

I can say "njaaaah!" just fine. You must have some screwed vocals.
Anyways, my review of Wario World goes like this:
Short. Easy. Boring.
It makes me really crave Mario Sunshine, which was none of those.

Did anyone read the review for this game on the home page? It was horrible and I don't agree with it. The reviewer gave it a 6. For graphics I think he gave it a 5. Definitely too low. Check it out and see if you agree with his scores. I know I don't. Despite the fact that the game is on the short side, I would still recommend it to anyone who hasn't already played it.

Heh. I actually agreed with it pretty much in its entirety. I was just pleased that someone else had the same opinion as me amongst a forum full of people who seem to love it. Personally I think that SFA is the better game, and I didn't like that one much either.

The explanation is really simple: English is not my primairy language, speaking Dutch German French Spanish & Latin allows me to pronounce IJ's instead of Y's and the words that use such letters and others. "Nah Naah Naah Naaaah Naaaaaaaah" lijkt er uiteraard wat meer op in het Engels. And that is what Wario sings when you press pauze
PS: I, too, miss Wario's transformations. That kind of left me with an empty (not-so-fun) feeling after finishing the game in a day. But I still love Wario got his own game and if you like platformers give it a rental.

I think this is one of the best designed platformers in a long long time. It's short because they didn't give you any garbage. Most platformers have you collecting 200000 things. Wario World isn't like that at all. It's all about solving puzzles and finding new paths. There's no monotonous collecting. It's still a little too short, but I would take a game that stay good throughout like Wario World over a game that gets super boring like DK64. I recommend this game to anyone if they game find it for under $50
