Title: Did "Dead Phoenix" become Kid Icarus: Uprising
Post by: Nile Boogie Returns on March 07, 2014, 11:24:10 AM
Sorry if this is old:
I was looking at some old videos and game across a promo for the legendary "CAPCOM 5". When the footage of this game showed up says to myself this looks a lot like Kid Icarus Uprising. See for yourself:
If you haven't played KI:U, stop reading and go get one of the finest games of all time. I you have played it, tell am I making this up? Did the studio responsible for Dead Phoenix later get absorbed into Nintendo? I don't deal in coincidence, life is far too vexing as it is. I remember the hype around the whole Capcom 5 back in the Planet GameCube days, good fun.

No, Nile, they did not, but you're right that there are some similarities! :)

It saddens me that most people largely ignore Iwata Asks despite it being THE source about the development of Nintendo games. Here is one about KIU: http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/kidicarus/0/0

According to the Capcom 5 article I just read, IGN speculated that this game was canceled and retooled in a New Kid Icarus game. While we know this not to be true, I feel better knowing my wrongness was not lonely.
So, about that HD sequel to Uprising...

I think Dead Phoenix was a spiritual successor (if not a direct one) to Legendary Wings for the NES (also, arcade).

In the NES game, your fifth most powerful attack transforms you into what looks like a bird on fire... kind of like a phoenix?
