Title: Nintendo TVii Plans for Europe to be Announced Soon
Post by: Killer_Man_Jaro on January 14, 2014, 02:54:13 PM

It's been a long time coming, but Nintendo will have some news on the app shortly.

The status of the much-delayed Nintendo TVii service in Europe will be announced "in the near future", Nintendo confirmed in a recent update.

The app, which has been inactive on the European Wii U menu since the launch of the system, was originally intended to launch in 2013, prompting Nintendo to apologise for the extended delay on their official website (discovered via Nintendo Life.)

Nintendo TVii was made available in North America and Japan in December 2012. The service connects with television providers and streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus to provide a library of TV content. Users can also utilise the GamePad while watching their program to look up information and reviews about the show, as well as share their thoughts on Miiverse.

Hopefully they delayed to deliver them the beta run of TVii 2.0
an actually useful and fluidly interactive app that loads quickly and responds immediately when you touch something.

I didn't know it works with Netflix. We don't get cable so I just ignored the app. I wonder if Amazon Video is supported. Their app already has a nice connection to IMBD on the gamepad so I can learn about the actors in shows. Saves me needing to use my phone for that purpose.

For me this app is useless. I wish they'd get rid of it. I had such high hopes for it and it fell flatter than anything I could've imagined.

I feel the same way, but instead of getting rid of it, I wish Nintendo would finally fully explore whats possible and useful within a technology and just run wild with it.

TVii could still be everything we imagined it might be when they first announced it, which is far more interesting and useful than what we ended up with. In it's current form it's a half baked idea with a half baked execution. Delaying it for over a full year should have lead to the 2.0 version which should be closer to fully baked version we thought we were going to get originally.

Something on the Wii U that Loads Quickly and Responds Immediately that is part of the base OS.  Yeah.  You be dreaming.  Nintendo really dropped that ball on that.

Surprisingly, once you are logged on, switching profiles back and forth is really quick.

I think that's the only positive thing I have to say on the subject at this time though....

That must be a recent improvement.
