Post by: ejamer on October 10, 2013, 08:32:01 PM
So I just noticed that Indie Game: The Movie is available on (Canadian) Netflix. Interesting watch.
Check it out if you haven't already.

I watched it on Netflix (UK) last year at some point. I thought it was pretty interesting, if a little obsequious to the game developers it focused on.

Definitely worth watching though.

Not sure that obsequious is the word I would choose - the documentary didn't do anything to hide the various neuroses and/or personality disorders these people suffer from.

It's unfortunate that the film didn't deal with failed releases, focusing only on success stories either by luck or design. But maybe that was the point. And I give it props for only introducing narrative through interviews and editing. I've watched too many narration-heavy documentaries lately where the agendas being pushed are a little bit too forceful.

Also, Guthrie's soundtrack was fantastic. Unsurprisingly.

I watched this just the other day, and coincidentally played Fez for the first time last month. Really makes me realize why people are leery of its creator Phil Fish, and it's no longer surprising he up and cancelled the sequel.

Not at all, the movie is excellent, as is Fez. The movie gives Phil Fish a lot of screen time though, and he is rather whiny in it.
