Title: The Fall 2013 Firmware Update
Post by: ShyGuy on September 30, 2013, 11:32:49 PM
- Nifty Globe/Timezone image on the Miiverse

- You can upload screenshots from the browser to image sites like photobucket. In higher res than Miiverse (720p)

(http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k302/shyguy70/WiiU_screenshot_TV_01101_zpsd88f9fee.jpg) (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/shyguy70/media/WiiU_screenshot_TV_01101_zpsd88f9fee.jpg.html)

- Spot Pass for Wii U, opt-in pushing content and demos.

- Off-TV play for Wii games (wii controller still required)

- HDMI video, other output for audio should help the audio-philes that were complaining, right?

Does anyone know if this helps the poor souls with Youtube and Netflix issues?

It definitely fixed my Youtube problem.

Uploading screenshots takes forever though.

And of course my Wii U bricks the day before they send out this update.

I did the update earlier today... I think around 11am Cali time, and then Netflix stuttered and then started right up with no problems. I'll try it again later and let you know though.

previously Netflix would lock the system roughly 40-50% of all start-ups, so I will have to do it several times to be sure it's fixed.

If only they made Gamepad controls working on Wii mode as classic controller...

I'D PLAY EVERYTHING AT ALL TIMES. Wii games, WiiWare games (MotoHeroes and Retro City Rampage, here i come!), VC games (Ghost and Goblins Arcade and Monster World IV, hell yeah), GameCube games through Devolution (Viewtiful Joe, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Timesplitters -- HELLS TO THE YEAH!)

I am getting excited simply dreaming about it.

Can anyone tell me how you get the Wii menu to play off the gamepad?  I haven't figured it out yet.

When you go into the Wii mode it should ask if you want "TV Only" or "TV and Gamepad".

I think this menu appears only on TV... This might be the problem why you can't go into Wii mode without TV now (you could before by pressing B when system starts up).

The stupid part about the whole "you can't control your game from gamepad" is that gamepad controls actually DO work in Wii mode.

If you press any button on Gamepad in Wii mode it will show you a special message that you're not supposed to do this. So technically there is no problem with receiving inputs from Gamepad.

but those inputs create an overlay more than anything.

If you hit "TV Only" and boot into Wii Mode, you can enter "TV and GamePad" mode by turning the GamePad back on.

The first time I tried using the GamePad mode, I didn't know about the on-screen menu.  The wife was watching something and I wanted to check it out, so I booted the Wii U, selected Wii Mode, then used my Wii Remote at the TV screen until I rumbled over a button and just hit that button.  When my GamePad turned off, I was all sad that it didn't work, but then, I just tried turning it back on... and viola!
