To be frank, I'm surprised they haven't taken things back to their roots and utilize the arcade model to generate cash for classic game re-releases: Every continue costs $0.25 - $0.50, depending on the game.

because then they would have to give us the game for free that way. Who would pay for the game and then each continue.... that would be ludicrous.

Final Fantasy VI - Want to uncurse that Cursed Shield or auto-win at the Colosseum? Tree fiddy plz.

Chrono Trigger - Instant Crono revive, $4.99.

Secret of Mana - Want an orb and the gold to refine a weapon? $3.

I'm posting these in a vain hope that message board posts can be copyrighted, so SquareEnix can't do s**t like this. Because you know they want to.

Well, I'd assume you'd have to pay a quarter to start each time as well. :D

I fail to see the problem here....isn't Free-to-Play the current trend?  This falls directly in line with that.

I never cared for her anyway.

Even though I knew the plot twist, watching Aerith die motivated me to not only continue playing but finish the game. I was dangerously close to just giving up because the game didn't grab me. Watching that cutscene with the White Materia bouncing from her hair to the beat of her theme is one of those gaming memories I'd never trade to bring her back. Aerith was worth more to the game dead than alive. It's a shame Square Enix keeps having her show up in other media.

Don't get me wrong, it had a story-telling and emotional impact when she died in the game, and was the first experience of a major character dying in a video game for me.  I'm just saying realistically, if she didn't die, I know she'd be one of my characters that wouldn't get past level 20 because of how little i'd use her.

I agree. I didn't use Aerith at all once I got a different third party member, partially because I knew she was a goner and didn't want to waste time leveling her, but mostly because I didn't think she was that great when I was forced to use her in the game. If her magic was amazing, I would have dealt with losing her later and kept her in the party to make my life easier.

Technically, what? I don't understand how that can be a response to my post.

However, I highly doubt the validity of that theory. It's interesting though probably expecting a lot of research from Square when they most likely just wanted a fancy CG cutscene. To think they had any intention of having Cloud more or less bury Aerith alive is a stretch.
