Does the system friend code get transferred along with the friend list?

Yes, it does. When you transfer, your new 3DS is essentially the old one. Just make sure you copy all the data on your SD card to a computer first if you want to use the larger one that comes with the XL or 2DS (then copy the data from your computer to the new SD card). I didn't do that and I lost all my Swapnotes and had to redownload all the Ambassador Games. Not a huge deal, but it was mildly annoying.

Hah I did exactly that (copy data from old SD to PC) and I still lost all my data. It's a good thing I haven't deleted what's on my PC. Trying to get it to work now. A bit aggravating if I say so myself.


Edit: The solution is to format the new SD card on PC. Copy data to new SD card. Pop it in new 3DS, and Bob's your uncle!

I had no problems doing my transfer to a bigger SD card but I wasn't transferring to a new system either.
