Title: so with Wind Waker HD remake...
Post by: toddra on August 22, 2013, 01:28:14 PM
I got to thinking this whole HD remake stuff might actually be a new venue Nintendo could use to entice gamers who are on the fence. Wind Waker doesn't appeal to me much cuz I just had a hard time getting into it, but there are remakes on the DS/3DS that appear to be selling pretty good and I was wondering if there are any others coming to Wii U or is this Wind Waker just an experiment?

I would love to see a full on HD remake of Metroid Prime, Mario 64 with updated graphics and maybe new levels, the Sonic Adventure Games, Star Fox Adventures, any of the Rogue Squadron games, maybe even something like  Eternal Darkness. I seem to recall PSN and Xbox live doing several of these HD remakes and was wondering if Nintendo had any others besides Wind Waker because if they did that might be enough to push me into getting the system. Especially the Sonic games.

I'd replay Metroid Prime through a HD remake. Would be incredible.

Only if someone other than Retro was doing it. Retro barely manages to put games out as it is. I don't want them wasted remaking their old games when they could be making new games.

Obviously new games are a must but I figure HD remakes might be quick cash ins. Right now they just need more games period.

How pissed would GameStop be if Nintendo announced Metroid Prime Trilogy HD?

Digital only with constant sales to keep the price down?

Not necessarily only digital, but it would be available digitally because it's a Nintendo game, and that would hurt their ability to price gouge.

Not very. It's not like people are buying Wii U games as it is, and if an HD MP Trilogy got people buying Wii Us they could finally clean out their stores & be done with the console.

Metroid Prime Trilogy HD would be amazing, especially with the Wii U Gamepad for scanning. You'd have to lose the motion-controlled shooting to do that though.

And pointer-controlled shooting is SO DAMN GOOD. Seriously, I love it more than twin sticks or keyboard and mouse.

They should get some team on it who already makes shooters and has a track record for decent games. After they remake it they will be ready to make a sequel.

maybe....pay....Crytek

I think at this point the Wii U needs lots of new games to give people a reason to buy it.  A console full of a HD remakes and not much else isn't going to sell.  Nintendo is having a lot of problems getting games finished so I don't think it's a good idea to take resources away from new games for remakes.

But deep down I figure that Wind Waker is just the start.  This is probably part of Nintendo's plans already.  When have they had the opportunity to churn out ports and remakes and not taken it?

No sane informed person would buy a Wii U for games they could play on a older system they can buy for cheaper on eBay.  That seems more like the stuff one buys AFTER they already own the console.  Come for the new stuff; stay for the remakes.  NSMB U doesn't sell Wii U's and the assumption is that it is too similar to the rest of the series to encourage a purchase and that's a NEW game.  So why would old games do better?

It might not increase the numbers by a large margin but those on the fence might consider it worthy. I just hope that they do more HD remakes along with new games but like I said, at this point they just need games period.

These kinds of things don't take resources away from new games. They're made by separate studios, usually outside of Nintendo. Those teams would not be helping Nintendo make games more quickly. They are, however, handy ways to pad the release lineup, that all platform holders use to fill gaps.

Well, since you couldn't get the Metroid Prime Trilogy cheaply, I think it's a great candidate for an HD remake. More of these could actually be a good way for Nintendo to try out smaller studios, see what they can do, consider absorbing the talent.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

HD remake with some additions.  I'd love it, and I think a new generation could love it too.

That's not true. People bought 360's and PS3's for the remakes--oops, I mean sequels--of Call of Duty and Halo. These same bros will go on to buy the XOne and PS4 for the same games they've already been playing. I don't see the difference.

I actually sold my 360 because I was tired of CoD and Halo and wanted the diversity that the PS2 had, and I still have my PS3 but it isn't because of the games as much as I would like it to be.

Resident Evil 4 HD already exists so that shouldn't be hard at all. Also, Okami would be a good addition to that list. It's already been made in HD with Move support (I think.)

Code Veronica also has an HD makeover, who knows why those games do not make it to the eShop :confused; .

I'm kind of at odds with the Wind Waker HD - on one hand, it's automatically the best game on Wii U, but the improvements in some ways make it look worse to me. It's definitely HD and looks prettier, but on the GameCube it was the perfect example of cel shading used to make a game look like a cartoon, and now it looks a little too "3D" to me. I'm sure I'll still get it and hopefully teach my daughter to play it, but the upgrade makes it look like it lost a little bit of it's charm, to me at least.

Did they actually tweak the textures or just upscale ala Dolphin?
