Title: Zelda CGI Movie Pitch Revealed
Post by: King Bowser Koopa on August 05, 2013, 01:43:02 AM

It was never approved, but you can now see what might have been.

In 2007, the ill-fated Imagi Animation Studios pitched a Legend of Zelda CGI movie to Nintendo, in a sample trailer that has only now seen public light.

Animator Adam Holmes, who supervised, shot and edited the animated pitch, posted the clip on his personal blog for all to see. Embedding of the video is not allowed, but you can check out the footage here.

A few noteworthy details are shown in the minute-long sample. While resembling an art style similar to Imagi's previous works in TMNT and Astro Boy, Link's design strongly resembles the original artwork from A Link to the Past, complete with our hero's lopsided bangs and the Master Sword's silver hilt and red grip.

Ultimately the idea was turned down, but we can only imagine what the story might have been like. Does the medium of animation still hold potential for a possible Zelda film in the future? Would a live-action adaption work better? Have your say in the Talkback thread below.

I liked both TMNT and Astroboy movies, they were very solid.

Man, this pitch looks great. Younger than usual Gannon is eyebrow raising but could still work.

Damn it, Nintendo.

There's been one amazing fan-made live action short:

You kinda expect to cringe while watching fan-made stuff like this, but this one is seriously great all the way through.

I've seen a few efforts at Zelda movies that make me think "Hm.  Could be good."

But then, it's easier to make a few minutes worth of footage seem interesting.  It's much harder to make 2 hours worth of film good.

As far as I'm concerned, if Legend of Neil is the only live-action Zelda we get, then I'll be happy with it. :D

I for one think Nintendo needs to diversify their funds, and what better way than to add IP related movies to the mix. Especially if they can get them to be theatrical releases that would in turn push merchandising and GAMES!!!

anything they can do to bring more awareness to their bread and butter in this time of need is something that should be explored.

Didn't they recently purchase or start an Animation Studio?
what ever happened to that?

I was just about to ask this.

It's an interesting idea, but I worry that one would have to add a lot to Zelda to make it a movie or show and whatever someone would come up with would suck.
