Title: I just bought a refurb Vita from ebay I didn't want...
Post by: Oblivion on July 01, 2013, 01:04:56 AM
I bidded on it for fun thinking I would get sniped... I didn't. I paid 152.90 + 9.99 in shipping. Now I'm stuck with something I really didn't want.

Word of advice to those who will listen: don't fucking bid on something you don't plan on paying for later.

You seem to keep buying systems you don't want... :D

On that note, I bought a PSP 1001 at a Goodwill for $25.  Not sure what I'm going to do with it.

Well, on the upside you now own a cool little handheld that has a worthwhile library of games. As you've already made your bed, you might as well enjoy lying in it. What exactly was refurbished about it?

I'm not sure. The description just said Seller Refurbished.

Unclebob, you definitely turn that into a emulation game backups machine.

And I only wanted it for Persona 4 anyway...

I don't do that though...

I've made a new eBay account before to outbid myself in the dying minutes when I've regretted something I've bid on. So if you're ever selling something and TyroneDank12 is the winning bidder, I'm sorry but you're not getting any money..

Then use it as a machine to play some good obscure JRPGs.

How is randomly bidding $150+ fun in any way?

It's like that episode in The Big Bang Theory: I never thought I'd actually win, but it was fun to bid anyway.

I don't. My family watches the show and whenever I happen to see it with them it happens to be this episode. Seriously, I've seen it probably five times when I've seen probably a total of ten BBT episodes.

I can't believe you thought someone would pay more than $160 (after tax) to take a refurbished Vita away from you.  Local second-hand prices for Vita, like new condition and usually with games, are trending way under that.

On the bright side, Vita has a few good games already and more good ones coming. Not an awesome price, but great hardware that should only get better as the software situation continues to improve.

Really?  I haven't been keeping track but a Vita w/ memory card for around $100 be tempting.

You've got a really nice machine for playing PSP homebrew on.

Sorry man, but you seem to be wrong because I spent all day yesterday doing small ebay bids, and every single one of them (around 12) all went about 160, except for the one I happened to win. Plus, I've been on r/Gameswap and r/gamesell and they all want more than 160.

No, local prices are what I said. I've been watching and debating if I wanted to drop that much money for a system that doesn't quite appeal to me yet. So far the answer has been "no".

The prices you're listing might be different... but obviously nobody wanted that refurb Vita for $160 since you won the auction.  But hey, if I'm the one who is wrong and yet you are the one paying $163 for a Vita refurb, that's ok by me.

Congrats on your win!

I wouldn't buy used electronics on eBay unless it was from a professional company, it's too shady. Maybe others who saw that listing feel the same way.

I would never buy a seller refurbished anything on eBay. I have 100% confidence is refurbishing consoles and handhelds and could sell one with confidence, but I would never buy one.

No point in arguing, considering the deed is already done.

Wait a sec... So, you are just bidding on things you don't want to jack up the price and force other people who do want these items to bid more? Why? Can't stand the fact that people might get sometihng they want at a low price? The fact that you got stuck with one of these bids might be a good thing to keep you from doing this again in the future.

Paid around $157 awhile back (think 4 months now) but mine came with 16GB card and four games.  With PS+ and free games (think I have around 8 freebies) I found myself enjoying the Vita very much.
