Title: Gunman Clive
Post by: TrueNerd on January 16, 2013, 01:23:17 PM
Um, this game is great. And it's only $2! To be fair, it's completely derivative of Mega Man, but it's one of those rare knock-offs that's arguably just as good. It's also kind of short, but again, only $2. The moving, jumping, and shooting feels really good and it's really precise. I'm also a fan of the graphical stylings and the music. And it looks way better in 3D.
Basically, if you own a 3DS, you need to get this game.

I only found Duck Mode to be truly rewarding.
The level design is really hit and miss, mostly because Clive controls like a tank. The Mushroom Jumping sequence in the middle of the game is especially annoying because of the imprecise mechanics and movement speed. I don't like the knockback you experience when getting hit, but that's a minor complaint because the game isn't that hard.
It's a ridiculous level of quality for only two dollars, and I would like to see a sequel where they push the boundaries a bit more. The game doesn't do much with it's mechanics until about two-thirds through, but it shows promise. That's all I can give it, though.

Supposedly there's an update on the eShop (whenever it goes back up) that does...something?

Nintendo Life says the update fixes the crashes found in stage 10 as well as other small issues found throughout the game.
