Title: Wii U eShop Thread (and Charts)
Post by: Soren on December 13, 2012, 01:23:21 PM
So the eShop charts are up for the first time. I have no idea how often they'll be updated but they're a pretty good barometer for what people are downloading. 4 of the top 5 best sellers are download only games!

- I guess I'm not really surprised that the eShop games are at the top. I am surprised that almost all of them are so high. I guess people are buying more than one and that's good.
- I have no idea how they are weighing the ratings chart. I would assume a 5 star NSMBU rating would carry more influence than a 5 star Just Dance 4 rating based on the # of people that have rated it. But...
- It's going to be interesting seeing how these charts evolve as the weeks go by and we get new releases of retail games.

Nice to see some good games at the top of the best sellers list.

I wonder in the future if we will see third party ports to the Wii U that only come out on the eshop? Would save a lot of money versus selling them retail. Probably sell better for old ports as well. If they ported BioShock 1 and 2 and sold it for $50 on the eshop, I think people would bite.

Holy crap a sale!
Trine was "on sale" since day one on european eShop. It was like 14 euro.

Funny thing i noticed, after you buy a game they don't show you current price for the software... It just says "purchased". Is that a way to avoid buyer's remorse, eh?

Something like that. Don't blame them that much trying to avoid the entitled people from complaining.

Isn't that the standard for download software stores?

I know Apple's various app stores do it that way, but I'm pretty sure Sony shows the price, but with a little shopping bag icon indicating you already owned it.

I know for certain Steam doesn't do this.

The Xbox replaces the purchase with a Play Now even in the market.

Good to see nintendo is being more free about having sales. Hopefully they do this for the 3DS as well.

Surprise, Runner 2 drops tomorrow.

Quote
Wii U The clear difference with the Wii U version is that you can play the entire game on either your gamepad or your TV.  Also, because it is the newest platform with the most memory, it has the best overall load times of any of the consoles.  Initial loading may be a bit slower, but it speeds up as you play since we can keep more content in memory, which means fewer loads overall.

I'm really happy to see Trine 2 is doing so well. It's surprising to see any third party title top any charts on a Nintendo platform, but it's very much welcome.
