Title: Demo Disc's Good or Bad
Post by: Andi 28 on May 28, 2003, 06:58:49 AM
So now Nintendo have decided that they should go against what they first said and put Demo Discs in new Gamecube Bundles do you think that they are a good thing or just another way of trying to keep up with Sony and Mircosoft? Personlly i think that they should have done it when the Gamecube was first released but hey, i will never probably see one anyway living in England

Well there's nothing wrong with trying to keep up with Sony and Microsoft. Personally I think a big reason why the Gamecube isn't selling so hot is because Nintendo doesn't keep up with the competition enough and always does everything their own way. Nintendo would probably be in a better position right now if they made sure to match the competition in all areas while at the same time bringing new innovation to the industry (like the Wavebird and GC/GBA connection).
Demo discs are a GREAT idea because they let gamers try out a game before it even comes out. Plus by releasing several demos on one disc then it exposes the customer to a wider range of games. Someone who buys the Cube demo disc for Soul Calibur 2 will get exposed to Viewtiful Joe and Billy Hatcher which they might not have been interested in before. I too think that Nintendo should have released these since launch. With a disc format there's absolutely no reason not to. I think the fact that Nintendo took this long to release one (and flubbed it by designing it only to come with a Cube purchase) shows how ridiculously out of touch they are with today's market. They should be releasing demo discs with at least every second issue of Nintendo Power.
All these little things like no demo discs until now, Player's Choice titles that cost ten dollars more than the competitions, smaller memory cards, no DVD playback, no announced online plans, etc are what is ultimately hurting Gamecube sales. By themselves none of these are that big of a deal but when you combine all of them the Cube starts to look rather inferior to the casual gamer.

yes very awesome idea!!!
ive played demos in the past for ps2 and xbox and they were lots of fun even though they were just demos. and with demos now out, people can play games they were not interested in or have not realized the games funess!!! for ex billy hatcher and the giant egg, i had a blast with this one. and plus they can leave us hanging with viewtiful joe until it is released...might be best game ever!!!!

I think once Nintendo finds out that people are plunking down ten bucks for a demo disc that's not officially for sale, they'll change their tune and start churning out demo discs for regular retail.

hehe you know 2 years ago if they had released a demo disk for 10 bucks everyone would have passed. Now people are so desperate for one.......IT WAS ALL PART OF THEIR PLAN!

Just because someone else did it first doesn't automatically mean that you shouldn't. If it's not broken, don't fix it. Sony has been doing Demo Discs even back in the PlayStation days, and look at their market share. I think that says a lot. There's something about tempting someone, and when you do it with games like Viewtiful Joe ...

My friend, who also posts on this forum, told me that he was at Best Buy and they were selling it seperatly- for 40 bucks. he asked if it was priced wrong but they said that it was 40. i think that's a ripoff because when the whole version of V. Joe comes out, that's only 40. so why buy a demo for the same price as the actual game?

I got mine at Best buy and it was only $9.99. Either someone screwed up the barcode or someone is doing some "extracurricular" activities at work. BTW, after playing Viewtiful Joe, I hugged my gamecube and thanked it for being my friend
