Title: Wii internal memory
Post by: Shredder565 on November 19, 2012, 06:17:59 PM
So, my wii is shot.  i powered it up today...and after being under a foot of hurricane water for two days or so, it STILL powers on with a red light in the front, but the buttons do nothing and there is no video signal.

So, now the question is, how easy is it to remove the internal memory card, and can I easily use that to transfer my games to a wii u? assuming that still works..
thanks :)

The internal memory is soldered onto the motherboard, so not easy at all. If you mean the external card, you can't use that.

If Ars Technica's experience is any indication, you may on the lamb for repair costs for your Wii before you're able to do the Wii to Wii U Transfer. (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/11/how-nintendo-drm-trapped-400-of-downloaded-games-on-my-failing-wii/)

You need your Wii and Wii U to be in working condition, on, and connected to your wifi network at the same time to transfer the data.  You also need a SD card large enough to hold all of your Wii Information.

Who is the guy who repairs game systems for a living? BranDogg? We need Brandogg in here.

Hate to say it, but you're screwed. I could easily desolder your NAND, but I wouldn't be able to do anything with it afterwards. Even then if it's been sitting in water and especially since you tried turning it on, it's probably toast altogether.

I would call Nintendo and see what they can do for you.  They might not be able to recover anything from it but given, and I assume, you were hit by hurricane Sandy, I'm sure they might be willing to give you something for your unfortunate situation.  I've always heard Nintendo's customer service is top notch so getting something would hopefully help quell the frustrations from losing your Wii goods.
