Title: If you think rare has lost their touch....
Post by: Samwise Gamgee on May 23, 2003, 09:26:39 PM
you should think again! after watchin the new trailer of kameo, i can see the posibilities with this game i know for a fact that it will rock! and it looks like something nintendo would make too! it looks like an edgy nintendo game! (thats why they were great nintendo developers)
second parties should take rare as an example as something to live up to and start making games like this!
here is the trailer! http://xboxmovies.ign.com/xbox/video/kameo_051303_trailer.mov

The only thing that looks the same is the main character, looks like they took out all the ghostly images of her inside other creatures possessing them to fight or something like that.

"Wow! Check this out! COnker on XBox! Nothing is censored! And because he is a mature character, he is suited to the Xbox platform! Hear all the things you couldn't hear on the N64 version because of Nintendo's bad decisions!" These sort of comments by PR and hype piss me off so much. Conker was great on the N64. The reason why it was good was because he was he was a cuddly character in the mould of other NIntendo characters, injected with a real badass attitude. The bleeping of f**k actually made the game funnier than if there was full swearing. To me, Conker on the Xbox is just another character and mature game. Not that it won't be good, but I think it's more cliched if it was on Xbox. You guys can disagree this if you want.
And Kameo: the video was cool, but I wasn't looking forward to it when it was on Gamecube, and my stance remains with the Xbox version. The only games I'm interested in are Banjo and Perfect Dark. Banjo in full FMV-style glory would be a great sight to see. And a cel-shaded Jo is interesting. Thing is though, it comes down to gameplay. And, if Grabbed by the Ghoulies is anything to go by, Rare's gameplay goodness days may be over.
So, IMO, Rare may have lost their touch.

my point exactly. having the movie uncencored was cool, since it was a movie, but having it that way made it just another movie full of cussing.

I agree with you all the way.
I have never been a diehard fan of Rare but Kameo didn't appeal to me when it was going to be on the GCN and none of the games Rare showed off for the Xbox even interested me. I read about GbtG and the whole premise of having to press button combos to move after being scared by the ghoulies is stupid. At least to me. Conker online is just stupid, the N64 Conker sold terrible but it has a cult following (? does it?) Rare said they were going to have what five games out by the end of 2003 (? or 2004) and it seems to meet this deadline they are going to give the Xbox owners shovelware.

basically the new conker is just a remake of the original with the multiplayer online kameo looks alright but nothing too special rare is going downhill right now- a lot of their staff left and not all of the talent of the n64 days is there anymore pd0 should be shown- that would get a lot of people excited about rare again but they havent shown anything same with a new banjo- if there is any i never did like their collect-a-thons that much but conker i loved they should have made a completely new game, but unfortunately that is not happening (at least to our knowledge)

rare said on there site that there is a big chance of a new battletoad and KI rare needs to get away from adventure games, that vid didnt look very impressive, i mean its just a updated version of the old gc screens, it would proberly look that polished on gc by now

I thought about it again. . . yeah, they still suck.
I saw some stuff for this, and it looks okay, but not that different from a million other use-monsters-to-help-you-fight games. Except you actually controlling them, but still. Average, at best.

teh thing with South Park is that it's teh exact same with Conker. on TV, it had to be bleeped. On N64, Conker had to be bleeped. in the movies, South Park was uncut. On Xbox, Conker was uncut.
It's just that Xbox is a much bigger console than N64, and the userbase cries out for stuff like this, so XBox was the *only* platform in which Rare could make Conker uncut. Or the fact that M$ forced rare to do so to get hype up.
Either way, M$ just sickens me.

I always thought that the N64 version was a pretty crappy idea. Sure, a few cheap gags and a little more disgusting Rare gameplay, but nothing appealing to me.

The only game I want from Rare now is Banjo-Threeie.

swearing in southpark is funnier when they censor it, like in the first episode when kyle goes balistic at the aliens, he isn't even saying real words after a while but its funny because is censored. real swearing doesn't really add anything imo.
i should watch those rare movies ;P

"The only game I want from Rare now is Banjo-Threeie."
Yeah. I really miss the feeling of Banjo. It's the only game I'm jealous of. Banjo in fumm FMV quality....ugh! *punches nearest Xbox fan*
I REALLY hope it doesn't sell good on XBox.
Hey, can Rare sell their game licenses? Like sell Banjo to Nintendo?

Pfft, why should a "kiddy" game sell on XBox?

yeah, my point exactly. I know it's going to widen the XBox range of games, but i don't think it's going to do THAT well. People who are going to BUY it are die-hard XBox fans looking for a good game BESIDES Halo (assuming Banjo's gameplay and atmosphere is going to be good), and people who STILL hate Nintendo for selling Rare to Microsoft.
I'm not going to buy it (I want Rare to suffer), but I'll give it a go on my friend's XBox (assuming he even buys it), or at the demos that they will have it on a demo.

Eh, I think Rare's X Box games are going to do well. But something tells me we wont be seeing Banjo again, unless they give him a beer and a blue jacket, Banjo wont show his face in the 'mature' X Box crowd. Havent you noticed the upcomming titles? Kameo, Conker and Ghoulies seem to be targeted at an older audience (Okay, I havent seen a thing on Ghoulies) but I think Rare's going to go for a more bloody look this time around.
