Who are your favorite movie directors? My favorites are:
- Steven Spielberg - Jurassic Park, The Lost World [Jurassic Park 2], ET, Saving Private Ryan - Peter Jackson - Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong - Robert Zemeckis - Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future trilogy, Forest Gump - James Cameron - Terminator 1 and 2, Aliens [Alien 2], Titanic, I still haven't seen Avatar yet - Ridley Scott - Alien, Gladiator - Quentin Tarantino - Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof - Christopher Nolan - The Dark Knight Trilogy, I still haven't seen Inception yet - Martin Scorsese - Shutter Island - Tim Burton - Beetlejuice, Batman, Batman Returns, A Nightmare Before Christmas [creator and producer], Corpse Bride - Henry Seleck - A Nightmare Before Christmas [director], James and the Giant Peach, I still haven't seen Coraline yet
It's good to see more movie directors pursuing their own creative projects, instead of being tied to a popular book / TV adaptation.

Big fan of Nolan, Spielberg, Scorsese, Jackson, Whedon, Tarantino, and my favorite of all time: Fritz Lang. <3

A History of Violence was an intense movie. It was incredibly disturbing, but still a great drama. I still haven't seen Prometheus, is it anything like Scott's old Alien movies? Does it tie into them in any way?

Prometheus is alright, it just seems like it doesn't have an ending or any real point. I still found it to be entertaining however. It was great to look at, I liked the characters, it just feels very incomplete and not self contained.

I like Quintin Tarantino, Woody Allen and Chis Nolan. Also a few others here and there. Actually a lot of Tim Burton.

The video store I went to in Tucson had movies organized by directors so...
I would still rent movies from there ,but I have a terrible late fee.

Hmmm... I find this to be a very interesting question. I like plenty of movies, but can I say that I am honestly a fan of that director's themselves, despite any duds in their body of work? That is, am I a fair-weather fan of them only when their movies are "successful," or do I appreciate their efforts even when they fail?
Anyways, so far I'm thinking I like these directors in a way that I'd watch movies from them even if I was skeptical about actually fully enjoying the end result:

The Twilight movies have sucked ever since they relieved Hardwicke of her directing duties. Also, Nativity Story sorta rocked. Although I will admit, that yes, Red Riding Hood was ridiculously bad, Bad, BAD. I can't fathom how a movie with Gary Oldman in it can have been so not fun to watch... But anyways, that's what I mean about how I don't want to be a fair-weather fan.

I meant to mention Paul Veerhoven as Kairon Mentioned. Everything I've seen of his has been good. I watched Hollow Man off Netflix recently too, and **** was good.
Yeah, I was going to mention Alfonzo Cuaran for his Harry Potter Stuff, but I couldn't rememeber the name "Prisoner of Azkaban" a couple of hours ago, and didnt feel like IMDBing it.
also, add Midnight in Paris to the Woody Allen list, lovely movie.

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of Woody Allen movies... Mighty Aphrodite, yes, but I haven't really watched a lot of his stuff.
OH! But how could I forget Mel Brooks! (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part I)

I saw parts of High Anxiety and they were hilarious, but not the whole movie. I haven't seen the whole movie. Young Frankenstein is also hilarious.

I didn't put it on my list. I didn't hate that movie, but I didnt love it. It was just too predictable. Like does Scorsese think I wouldn't expect the Caligari ending from the beginning?

I would say Andrew Stanton, as he directed WALL-E. But he followed up with John Carter. So i take that back.
I just watched John Carter actually! Pleasantly surprised to find it not as bad a movie as it was made out to be. But then again maybe I'm just a bit of a sci-fi nut.

We live in an age rich with excellent directors but void of any company willing to back them consistently. And that is why Michael Bay keeps making movies.

Unless Man of Steel flops (although he is only producing that, not directing it).
I don't like the Mission: Impossible movies, so I haven't seen Ghost Protocol (which Bird directed).
Fucking Zach Snyder is directing Man of Steel. I would never take his work seriously after he made **** like Watchmen and Sucker Punch. The only good movie I've seen by him is that Dawn of the Dead remake. 300 is just a display of overdone CG effects and digitally enhanced muscle men parading around without shirts.

Yeah, I keep on getting excited about Man of Steel until I remember that Zach Snyder is directing it, which totally deflates me. I... appreciate... his unique visual stylings, but I often find myself not enjoying his movies as a whole.

300 was good, but not a perfect movie. Same with Watchmen. Considering how good Dawn of the Dead was though, we have to just hope that anything he remakes will be good. With Nolan in the picture we have some sort of insurance. Look how good Nolan made Goyer's work! Back to Watchmen, its kinda unusual to make 11 chapters of a graphic novel and put it directly on screen. If it were me, it would be more of an adaptation then page to screen. At least someone tried that.

Nolan co-wrote and directed all of the movies that he worked with Goyer one, so he was more involved. With MOS, he is only producing it (not writing or directing), so less influence.

Favorite movie directors, let's see there is Kevin Smith, um George Lucas, kidding. I don't think I could list favorite directors, they asked this on the blu ray.com forums and it was not pretty. I think it is safer to ask what a persons favorite movies are or favorite genre of movies personally. I never understood the following a director concept considering each person can have their share of hit's and misses.
To be honest even if I liked a movie I still don't think I would give all the credit to the director. I took a film making class last year and while directors do certainly deserve their share of the credit, it takes a lot of collaboration to make a good film. Speaking of which the film I made, is not the standard for good.

I just watched a Richard Linklater movie called Bernie, and It was about what I'd expect out of him. Even though it was kind of different.

True. Within 5 minutes I'm pretty sure I could tell you whether or not a film was directed by Ken Loach. Despite thematic differences his films have traits which are very distinctive. Sure, most of his films are overtly political, but as a director he also exhibits some story telling habits that make his films immediately recognisable (and just a little bit trite).
